News of Auburn area
Hall renovations -
The Auburn Hall Board
met last Tuesday evening
with James Glousher in
the chair. The minutes
were read by the
secretary Mrs. Donald
Haines. The financial
report showed that the
hall has been rented
several times this
summer. Plans were
started to make
renovations to the hall
and a public meeting is
set for October 10 at 7:30
p.m. to discuss plans and
the cost estimates.
UCW meet
Unit II of Knox United
Church Women met with
their leader, Mrs. Jack
Armstrong. The minutes
were read by the
secretary Mrs. Beth
Lansing.

Plans were made to send
cookies to the United
Church tent at the
Plowing Match and also

and Mrs. Ross Dobie.
Unit I and II joined in a
meeting last Monday
evening with Mrs.
Stanley Ball presiding.
She opened the meeting
with a reading and the
hymn with Mrs. Tom
Cunningham as pianist.
Rev. Earl St. Jean led in
prayer.
Mrs. Maurice Bean
introduced the guest
speaker, Daryl Ball,
assistant agricultural
representative of Brant
County. He told about his
trip to Australia and New
Zealand last winter and
showed interesting slides
of the life in those
countries. He was
thanked by Mrs. Donald
Haines.
WMS gather
The Auburn
Presbyterian Woman's
Missionary Society met
for its September
meeting at the home of
Mrs. Frances Clark,.The
president Mrs. Wilfred
Sanderson gave the call
to worship followed by
the reading of the hymn.
The devotional period
was charged by Mrs.
Eleanor Bradnock.
Mrs. Sanderson
welcomed the members
and guests. The minutes
were read by secretary
Mrs. Lillian Leatherland.
The financial statement
was given by the
treasurer, Mrs. Frances
Clark. A reading was
given by Mrs. Ed Davies.
The missionary study
taken by Mrs. Frank
Raithby told about the
work of Pauline Brown a
medical missionary in
India. She was assisted
by Mrs. Frances Clark.
The roll call was an-
swered with a Bible verse
containing the word,
friends. The offering was
received by Mrs. Frances
Clark and dedicated by
Mrs. Sanderson.
Plans were finalized to
observe the 90th an-
niversary of the WMS at
the fall rally of Huron
Presbyterial in Goderich
on October 11 at 1:30 pm.
The next meeting is to be
held on October 3 at the
home of Miss Minnie
Wagner.
A card was signed to be
sent to Mrs. John Hallam
who is a patient in Clinton
Public Hospital.
The meeting was then
closed with a hymn.
Lunch was served by
Mrs. Clark. ,
Cemertery board
elects officers
Ball's Cemetery Board
held a public meeting last
Monday evening in the
Auburn Town Hall with
Chairman Frank Raithby
presiding.
The resignation of
Chairman Raithby,
retired after serving as a
Ward truestee since 1959
was announced. The
minutes and financial
statement were read by
the secretary treasurer,
Mrs. Robert Slater.
The trustees elected
were: Norman
McDowell, Chairman;
Robert Arthur, Dennis
Penfound, Stanley Ball,
James Towe and Ernest
Dornin. The cemetery
registration dates Sone
26, 1869 and the' Wit
names. that appear . then...
are William .ancl Yana
Ball, iolm Bali and Antos
Bradshaw.
Birthday plans
The September
meeting of the 125th
birthday • party for
Auburn was held ' last
Wednesday evening in
the community memorial
hall with the president,
Fred Lawrence in the
chair. About 30 persons
attended.
The minutes were read
by the secretary Eleanor
Bradnock,
Mrs. Allan Craig, was
elected to order bumPer
stickers and have them at
the next meeting. Don
Haines reported that a
masquerade dance is
planned for October 28
with the Cherry Brandy
Band at $8 per couple.
Mrs. Brian Hallam and
Mrs. Bill Robertson will
be in charge of tickets.
It was decided to have a
sanctioned tractor pull on
the Monday of the
celebration next July.
Barry Millian presented
the budget for the
committees and a
discussion took place.
The next meeting to be
held on October 11 at 8
p.m.

wish her a speedy
recovery.

Several from this
district attended Western
Fair at London and also
the Lucknow Fair last
Saturday.
About 20 ladies called
on Mrs. Lillian
Leatherland last Friday
on the occasion of her
birthday. A birthday cake
