plan barbecue
The Ontario Street
UCW held their first
meeting of the fall season
on September 12 and
made plans for the
church's pork barbecue.
Scheduled for Wed-
nesday, October 4, tickets
for the barbecue are now
on sale and cost $4.50 for
adults and $2 for children
under 12 years old:
Purchase your tickets
early since they won't be
sold at the door.
In other business, Mrs.
Cecil Elliott presided
over the meeting and the
minutes of the last
meeting and the
treasurer's report were
given by Mrs. James
Mair and Mrs. Wilf
Parker. Mrs. H. Johnston
gave the flower and card
report. If there is anyone
who should be remem-
bered by a card or a
flower, please call Mrs.
Johnstone at 482-7636.
The correspondence,
which included many
thank you notes and an
invitation to the Lon-
desboro thankoffering
service at 8 p.m. on
Wednesday, October 4
was read by Mrs. George
Turner.
Anyone attending the
Plowing Match is invited
to drop into the UCW
Hospitality Tent for a cup
of coffee and a cookie.
The third centennial
service of the Ontario
Street Church will be held
on September 24 at 11
a.m. The Rt. Rev. George
M. Tuttle, BA, BD, ThD,
DD, moderator of the
General Council of the
United Church of Canada
and Principal of St.
Stephens' College from
Edmonton, Alberta will
'preach.
At 8 p.m., the 4th
centennial service will be
held with a reception to
follow the service to give
everyone an opportunity
to meet the moderator.
All ladies are asked to
bring a dozen cookies or
squares for the evening
reception.
The next executive
meeting of the UCW will
be held at 2 -p.m. on
October 10. The change in
time was necessary
because of the regional
meeting in Winthrop at
7:30 p.m. on October 10.
The bazaar festival and
tea will be held on
Saturday, November 18
from 2 to 4:30 p.m. All
committees have been
formed and plans are
well underway.
Mrs. George Colclough
moved that the meeting
be adjourned.

Clinton sees CNIB display
An estimated 75 to 100
people from the county
learned about such
devices as the sonar cane
and the sonagride,
talking book machines
and magnifying lenses
when they attended the
Canadian National
Institute for the Blind
(CNIB) display at the
Orange Hall in Clinton
last Thursday.
Included in the display
was a demonstration ot
the sonar cane. This
expensive instrument
emits three laser beams
in different directions. If
one of these beams is
interrupted, a sound is
Clinton lady dies
Minnie Louise Cud -
more died in St. Joseph's
Hospital, ,London on
Tuesday, September 12.
She was in her 91st year.
Mrs. Cudmore was
born in Ilfracombe, North
Devon, England on July
26, 1888 to Wm. H. Watts
and the former Thurza
Richards. -
She emigrated to
Canada in 1905 and in 1909
married Alex Cudmore.
The couple resided in
Clinton during their
married life. Mrs.
Cudmore was a charter
member of the Order of
Eastern Star and a long-
time member of 'the
Clinton WI.
Mrs. Cudmore was
predeceased by her
husband. She is survived
by two sons, Gordon and
Reg, both of Clinton. She
is also survived by 14
grandchildren and 17
great-grandchildren and
one sister, Mrs. Mary
(Ernest) 'Lawson of
Clinton. She was
predeceased by three
