Mrs. Vera lrintnell took the Devotional and the topic was "Harvest Home". The roll, call was an- swered by 11 members, who were told the fall regional will be held at 'Chiselhurst on October 17th and arrangements were made to hold the Fall Bazaar on November 1. Mrs. Harold Parker spoke on the Conference she attended at Alma College in . August, the Theme being "stop -look - Nine young people confirmed St. Mark's Anglican Church, Auburn was filled to capacity last Sunday afternoon when the Rev. Morse Robinson, Assistant Bishop for Huron, conducted con- firmation service for nine young people. Brussels, Belgrave, and Blyth churches joined in the service. The Rev. Dan Sargent, rector of the four -point charge, assisted the Bishop. Mrs. Murray Nesbitt was organist and a choir composed of members from .the four churches led in the service of song and sang them ac- companied by Rev. Dan Sargent on the guitar. Bishop/ Robinson spoke on. the Discipleship of. - Jesus for his inspiring message The vows ,were taken by Gary McCutcheon, Velma Elliott and Donna Elliott all of Brussels; Pat Stakchouse, Jayne Spell and Nancy Tayler all of Blyth; and Frank Slater, Derrick and Lorie Cartwright all of Auburn. Guests were present from Cambridge, Forest, London, and the surrounding district. New Minister The Huron Men's Chapel in Auburn has become affiliated with the Missionary Church and now has a resident minister living in Blyth. His name is Rev. Wayne Good. He is an excellent gospel preacher and Bible teacher. The village of Auburn was blessed with four different churches, Church of England, Presbyterian, United Church and Baptist. Two of these came to the point where they had to close. However a third church came into existence seven years ago. Its services are held at 8 p.m. and it does not seek to remain in different or unsympathetic to the other churches. Two weeps ago this church celebrated its seventh anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Haggitt and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Brown of Goderich were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Rinderknecht Jr. .and family at Lamont Michigan, on Sunday. The annual Grand- bmother's Day will be served at the Sep- mber meeting of the Auburn Women's Institute .to be held on September 19. Mrs. Rina Jouwsma of the Han- dicraft and Flower Shop at Wingham will demonstrate flower arranging. All grand- mothers are invited to attend. Horticultural Society The Auburn Hor- ticultural Society met in the Town Hall last Wednesday afternoon The Dresident Mrs. Dorothy Grange was in charge The minutes were approved as read by Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock in the absence of the secretary, Mrs. Thomas Haggitt. A letter was read from the District asking for help on Thursday, Sep- tember 28 . at the Ploughing Match. Mrs. Frank Raithby and Mrs. Thomas Jardin were appointed to go for the Auburn Society. A discussion took place regarding the flower baskets for the Auburn 125th birthday party. Plans were made to hold the next meeting on October 16 at 8 p.m. The - hostesses 'will be Mrs. John Durnin, Mrs. Ernest Durnin and Mrs. Russel Brindley. There will be guest speakers and all members are asked to make chrysanthemum arrangements and bouquefs .• rustees Meet : -.. -. The September meeting of the Auburn Village Trustees was held last Saturday evening in the Town Hall with the Chairman Warner Andrews in the chair. The minutes were accepted as read by the clerk, Frank Raithby. It was reported that the Reeve of Hullett, John Jewett had presented Auburn with a new flag. It was stated that some street signs are down and should be put up again. Some residents inquired about the new street lights for the village and it remains a mystery why they are so ,,- long in commencing this project. it was announced that the big hill had been sodded by Huron Lan- dscape Wedding Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Harold Baechler were en- tertained by a surprise 35th wedding anniversary dinner at the Candlelight Inn in Goderich on Sunday afternoon. Following dinner, everyone went to the home of Donna and Tom Vanderburgh where the Baechlers opened their many gifts. Lions Club The first regular meeting of the Auburn and District Lions Club was held starting with a membership of 30 Lions. Lion President Bud Chamney chaired the meeting. The minutes were read by secretary Lion Bob Worsell and adopted on the motion of Lion Randy Machan and Lion Bill Robertson. The financial statement was given by treasurer Lion Jim Schneider. Tickets for the Lions dance on October 7 will be on sale soon. The next meeting will be the 50-50 draw. The bleachers at the baseball diamond are to be completed this week... It .was announced. that the Auburn and District Lions Club have a walker, wheelchair, crutches and canes available free of charge to anyone having need of them in the surrounding area. Walkerburn Club The Walkerburn Club held its September meeting at the home of Mrs. Lloyd McClinchey. The meeting was opened with Mrs. Lloyd McClinchey at the piano followed by prayer by Mrs. Leonard Archambault. The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as read by the assistant secretary, Mrs. Marian Hunking. The roll . call was an- swered and the financial statement was given by the treasurer, Mrs. Jim Schneider. • She stated that the foster child support was paid up until the end of September. The draw prize, won by Mrs. Tom Cunningham, had been donated by Mrs. Lloyd McClinchey. There will be no Sep- tember meeting, but for the October meeting, the members are asked to come in costume and bring a guest or pay a fine -one cent for each inch of your. waistline. There . will also be a miscellaneous sale of baking, produce, etc and Mrs. Jim Schneider and Mrs. Marian Hunking will be in charge of the program. Legion Auxiliary The , Hensall Ladies' Legion Auxiliary Auxiliary met on Tuesday evening with the president, Mrs. Beatrice Uyl presiding. Arrangements were made ,to assist other organizations canvass for the Blind and teams were appointed for the bowling tournaments to be held in other places. The mystery prize was won by Mrs. Clarence Reid and the guessing prize was won by Mrs. G. McClinchey. WMS to hold fall rally The W.M.S. of Carmel Presbyterian Church met on Thursday evening with the president Mrs. Harvey Hyde presiding and Mrs. Rochus Faber was in charge of ' the Devotional while Mrs. Faber read the Scripture. The topic "The Field is the World" was very well presented by Mrs. Faber after which she led in prayer. An invitation was received from the Arnold Circle evening Auxiliary to attend their "thank - offering" meeting to be held on October 10 at 8 p.m, The Fall Rally will be held in Goderich on October llth at 1:30 p.mm. and the speaker will be Miss Ida White. The regular meeting of the Ladies' Aid followed. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Phillips and family of Stanley Township have taken up residence in the property on Main street which they recently purchased from Mrs. Grace Peck. Mrs. Don Brunslow, Exeter and Mrs. Maurice Haist of Centralia were recent visitors with Mrs. Bertha MacGregor. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Dickens - and family of Dungannon Dungannon have taken up residence in the property they recently purchased from Mrs. F. Rapson. Mrs. Eric Munroe of Seaforth visited last week with - Mrs. Bertha MacGregor. Mrs. Harold Parker was the guest speaker on Thursday evening at the. UCW meeting in the Evangelical Church Zurich, speaking on the Conference she attended at Alma College in August. The theme "Stop - look -listen -- Hear God speak". Mrs. Ed- Corbett of the staff of the Bank of Montreal is an vacation. Lodge drapes charters The Amber Rebekah Lodge resumed their fall Meetings on Wednesday evening with the Noble Grand Mrs. Maggie Campbell presiding, assisted by the Vice - Grand Mrs, Pearl Eyre. Mrs. Aldeen Volland RSVG gave the report of the visiting committee,, and the treas'urer's report was given by Mrs. Bertha MacGregor in the absence of the treasurer, Mrs. Dorothy Corbett. Several "thank -you" notes were received, and the Lodge charter will be draped at the next meeting in memory of the late Sister Daphne Kenealy, past president of the Rebekah Assem- bly.
