Hospital auxiliary busy
The Clinton Hospital
auxiliary resumed their
meetings Tuesday
September 5 with 20
ladies present. The
minutes of the June
meeting were read by
Bess Pingland and .the
treasurer's report was
given by Marg Coventry
in the absence of Miss
Kathleen Elliott. This
report showed a balance
of $2,644.07.
The Autumn con-
ference, set for Sep-
tember 25 will be held at
the Waterloo Motor Inn,
Waterloo and Marg
Coventry, Dawna
Westlake, Peggy Men-
zies, Kay Elliott volun-
teered to be present. The
Hospital Auxiliaries of
Ontario Conference was
announced for November
5-8 at Royal York Hotel,
Toronto.
The illness of Barb
Hicks, candy striper
convener was spoken of
with regret and Mrs. Cox
spoke of the great
usefulness of this group
and of the continuing
need for this service.
Lina Cochrane reported
for the penny sale that
plans were well un-
derway. Set up day is
September 21, draw to be
made September 30,
tickets are now on sale
and publicity will be in
the hands of Joyce
Hilderley. Posters have
already been prepared by
Dawna Westlake and
Marg Coventry.
Donna Wood will
delegate workers for
each day previous to the
draw, set up day will be
looked after, by Marg
Coventry, Peggy Men-
zies, Laura Anstett, Kay
Hanley and Lina
Cochrane. Lists typed by
Florence Corrie were
given out as well as
receipt books, and
canvassers have already
volunteered to do this
task.
The bursary fund was
reported in good shape.
Dawna Westlake an-
nounced the committee
had met and chosen two
names for 1978 as
Stanley Twp. rec. news
Don Brodie presided at
the Stanley Twp.
Recreation Committee
meeting held on August
30. The ball season is
nearly over and the
junior girls A team
coached by Helen Faber
won the trophy in inter -
township play.
Congratulations!
The Peewee boys,
coached by Bill Taylor
started their final round
of playoffs this week
against Londesboro.
Over 100 boys and girls
were registered for the
ball teams this season.
Their coaches were:
senior girls, Janet
Graham; junior girls A,
Helen Faber; junior girls
B, Ross McBeath; senior
boys, Ken Van Won-
deren; peewee boys, Bill
Taylor; tyke boys,
Howard Armstrong. , Pat
Taylor, Sandy Hayter
and Shirley Hill coached
the T -ball for the younger
children on Wednesday
afternoons.
The committee ' would
like to thank all these
coaches for donating so
much of their time for the
youngsters, and thanks
also to assistant coaches,
umpires and drivers and
to Ross Whittaker who co-
ordinated the ° season's
activities.
In finals
In the men's South
Huron Slo-Pitch League,
Varna defeated Fan-
cher's Flyers of Bayfield
in two straight games and
are now into the finals
with Dashwood in a best
three out of five series.
On Wednesday, Sept. 6
Dashwood beat Varna
and on Sunday, Sep-
tember 10th, Varna
evened it up with a win
after two innings of
overtime. Other games
are scheduled for
Tuesday, September 12,
Friday the 15th and if
necessary, Sunday, the
17th.
There is still time for
you to enter the town-
ship's "Crest Contest".

A final membership
report given by Alice Ball
showed a splendid
response to date - monies'
received $821, members
$666 and donations from
various groups, $155.

these organizations were
sent by Joyce Hilderley,
corresponding secretary
to Varna UCW, Blyth WI.
Tuckersmith Ladies
Club, Brucefield UCW,
Kippen UCW, Londesboro
WI and Summerhill
Ladies Club. Much
gratitude is due all who
worked so diligently
under Alice Ball's
splendid leadership. On
her committee were Jean
Baker and Kay Hanley as
well as many dedicated
canvassers.

staffing the cart -Catholic
Women's league for
September and
Holmesville UCW for
October; Freda
Schoenhals for cart
stocking - September,
Marg Coventry, October,
Alice Ball. Joyce
Hilderley was em-
p&wered to write Dorothy
Hovey of Bayfield to
thank her for $100
received for vanishing
parties. This brings total
for these affairs to
$864.75.
Mrs. Jean Cox reported
for Mrs. Stodden, knitting
convener, and expressed
thanks to all who work so
diligently to keep the gift
case well stocked and
other necessary knitting
for the hospital use.
Mrs. Coventry an-
nounced discussion of
new by-laws would take
place at the October
meeting and with this, the
meeting adjourned.
Clinton's first co-op pre-school nursery opened on Monday and already 45
children have been registered, but there -are still openings for Monday and

Arethur Maloney, Q.C.,
the Ombudsman of
Ontario, has announced
details for tour number
eight of the 1978
Ombudsman hearings, to
be held throughout
Ontario.
The program
designed to make the
service of the Ombud-
sman available to all the
people of the province in
their home areas -- will
see members of the
Ombudsman's staff
available in Wingham on
September 19th, in
Kincardine on September
20th and in Orangeville on
September 21st.
In each case, the
representatives of the
Office will be able to hear
- in complete privacy
and confidentiality ---
complaints
-complaints or grievances
that individuals or groups
may wish to discuss
regarding administrative
acts or decisions of
ministries, agencies,
boards of commissions of
the government of the
Province of Ontario.
The members of the
Ombudsman's staff will
be available for in-
terviews in: Wingham, -
from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.
at the Town Hall, 274
Josephine Street in
Wingham, on Tuesday,
September 19th; Kin-
cardine, - from 10 a.m.
until 7 p.m. at the Town
Hall, 707 Queen Street in
Kincardine on Wed -
No appointment is
needed for any of the
hearings on the visits to
the various centres, with
the staff members not
breaking for the luncheon
or dinner hours, and
scheduling their time into
the early'evening.

the setting for the July 29
wedding or Deborah
Marguerite Pugh and
Lorne Douglas Taylor.
The bride is the sister
of Carolyn and Robert
Snell of Bayfield and the
groom is the son of
Harrey and Bertha
Taylor, Varna,
Rev. Alan Thomas
officiated the ceremony.
The ,maid of honor was
the bride's sister Diane
Push, Toronto. The
bridesmaids were Janet
Huntley, and - Sandra
Snell, niece of the bride,
both of Bayfield.
Larry Johnson, Varna,
was bestman and the
wedding guests were
ushered into the church
by Brian Johnson, of
Varna, and Wayne
Campbell, Hensall.
After a honeymoon in
Niagara Falls the couple
took up residence at R.R.
3, Bayfield.
Prior to the wedding
the bride-to-be was feted
to three showers given by
friends and relatives.
