Sunday afternoon, John was the first driver to, win a race in front of the newly designated Clinton Community Grandstand when he drove his four-year-old mare Skippy Del to her, seeond victory of the year in:12.1. Dale Kennedy of Seaforth finished second with his Silver Ronnie pacer, Jeffrey Hi. Dovers Dale was third for owner Randy Henry ofGoderich in the second. The three-year-old colt by Frosty Dale— Speedway Melly was making his first lifetime start as was fourth place Vermont Lady. She is a three-year- old filly by Adios Boy—Vermont Dream, co -owned by trainer - driver Gord Pullman and John Mcllwain of Seaforth. Dutton Duster, a four- year-old trotter that is trained by Ben Feagan for C. William and Julia Armstrong of Toronto, fini4shed " third with Verdun Vanstone up. John Lester had a driving, double, when he • tank the fourth with KTK, ar four-year-old Joe Dale mare for owner Vincent O'Shea of Granton and gave' Spitfire Sue • a new record of 2:06.1 for owner Harry Faulds -of Arkona. 'W ayne Dupee was the winner of the fifth with Champion Hit in 2:09.1 for owner Wayne McFadden of Clinton. Frank MacDonald finished second with Goldies Hit for owner - trainer Terry Rutledge of Clinton followed 'by Silver Creek Creed with Terry Kerr and Reggie Ford, .fourth- for owner Charles Brindley of G'oderic•h with Jack Meriam up. Bay Frost A, owned by Wpyne and Bruce Dupee of ''Main was' second to Spitfire Sue in a 2.:06.1 mile with Wayne driving. Cjnda Meadows, owed; by Ruth and Cinda Jerry of Goderich, with Bud Jerry driving, almost got a new record of 2:08.1 in the seventh. Unfor- tunately, she was on a lapped -on break at the wire and was placed fourth. Rays Prodigy, the five-year-old mare from Lucan, that went for a jaunt around town alone a few Weeks ago, after dumping her driver Lloyd Haskett, was declared the winner with Claybrook Romeo second for driver Jack Meriam and owner Charles Brindley of Goderich. The time of the race was disallowed. Larry DeCaluwe of Lucan gave his four-year- old pacing mare Arnies Peggy a new record of 2:05.4 in the eighth. From • eight starts at the Clinton track this summer, Arnies Peggy has won seven times. Tony Bay, owned by G. Ross McEwan and Lorne Bay was second for tainer Walter Pepper and driver Ross Battin. From 16 starts this year, Tony, the seven- year-old gelding by Skippys Pride C has had three wins, five seconds and three thirds. He has been either first or second in each of his last seven starts. Gerry Roebuck finished fourth with Late Affair for Grant and Carl Fisher of Goderich, followed by Randy Henry with Arrochar Ruth, a five- year-old mare by Replica Herbert -Adieu Herbert, that was claimed by Arnold Doak of Goderich at Elmira on August 28. Robert Jerry drove Ima Jerry to a fourth spot in the seventh for owner H.O. (Bud) Jerry of Goderich. Keith Graham drove Puppet Boy to his fifth straight win, timed in. 2:05.1, in the $1,000 Preferred Pace. At Mohawk Raceway on September 5, Karl T. Sellster, owned by Wayne Horner finished third with Larry Walker up, as did Yankee Meadow Nin a 2:01.2 mile for co-owner driver Ron Williamson and Helena Lane of Seaforth. Metric Time, owned by Larry Daw of Clinton and Claude Daw. of Mississauga, was fourth in a 2:06.3 mile at Mohawk on Friday night. The year-old gelding by Record Time -Maisie Belle is currently in Randy McLean's stable at Flamboro Downs and was driven by Randy in his first start at an Ontario Jockey Club track. He had two seconds earlier this year at Hanover .with,Dennis.. Jewitt driving. Gary Payne was second in a 2:03 mile with Sokys Honey for owner Frank Little of Goderich. From 32 starts in 1978, the eight-year-old Adios Vic mare has had three wins, four seconds and seven thirds for earnings of $6650 and $50;047 lifetime. Her best record this year was 2:03.3 at Clinton, but she has a record of 2:02.4 taken at therage of four. Bay B. Hayfee, owned by Holmesville Valley Farms, took a new record of p, 2:07.2 with Verdun Vanstone on the bike at Elmira on September 8. John Shaddick was third with Claybrook Kaola in the sixth, At Hanover on Saturday night, J.C. Lornie Lee, a three-year- old colt by Lornie Rhyth- m - Millie Page, owned by Douglas Kerr of Dungannon had his first lifetime win in 2:10 with driver Randy Henry up. Gerry Roebuck of Goderich was second with Active Angel. G.G. Bay Lady, co - owned by C.W. (Jiggs) Le Beau of Brudefield, was third for trainer -driver Bud Fritz at Orangeville on Sunday. It is not often that a 13 - year -old pacer starts racing as a maiden, but that is the class which Dillon Song will race in this Sunday at Clinton Kinsmen Raceway. Although he has never won a race pacing, he certainly did extremely well as a trotter. Lifetime he has earnings of $148,221 and a record of 2':03.1. Pillion is owned by George F. Elliott of Clinton and is a half- brother of Dapper Dillon, 2:00.2. Featured this week is the Radio Shack— 0.4.H.A. Pacing Series for four- year -olds. Though the season has long ended, the players and management feel that a kind word and a big thanks are in order for these two organizations for their support of not only this team, but many other local teams. At a meeting last Monday night, the Clinton minor hockey association decided to rent ice at the Vanastra arena until the Clinton arena is ready. Registration will be held on two consecutive Saturdays, September 23 and 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Clinton town hall, and the charge for late registration has been jumped to $10. The Association, in attempts to raise money, will hold their popular hockey equipment ex- change and bake sale on Saturday October 14 and have a dance on November 18. Soccer cup finals set Clinton is pleased to have been chosen as the site 'for the 1978 Huron Minor Soccer Cup finals.
