The lazy -hazy days of
summer are behind us,
work -wise and weather=
wise. It's mid-September
and the Hub of Huron
County is all activity. The
annual Hospital Penny
Sale is underway at the
Town Hall, Brownies,
Guides, Cubs and Scouts
are starting (more on
that further down the
column) and September
is Arthritis month (more
on that too.)
But the real story of
September will be the
distinct gravitational pull
northward the week after
next to the site of the
International Plowing
Match at Wingham
starting September 26.
Local farmers, whose ads
I take over the phone, will
be praying that I make a
personal pilgrimage to
the shrine of agricultural
equipment and learn at
first hand the meaning of
such farm names as eight
row corn planters,
combines, harvesters,
bean windrowers, balers,
etc. I do try to be very
accurate when taking ads
over the phone from these
farmers, who toss off
these machinery names
and are half way back to
the field before 1 hang up
the receiver.
However, looking back
to my first month on the
job, eight years ago,
nothing has ever com-
pared to my greatest
.faux -pas when ope of my
ads appeared in the Farm
Section as "For Sale:
three white Laced steers".

Dr. WIlliam Fingland,
a brother of the late
Judge Frank Fingland,
went to Niagara Falls,
Ontario in 1931 as
minister of St. Andrew's
United Church. Many
times over the years his
dedicated service to that
community has been
honoured - more than
once as "man of the
• year"; for his years of
service in the Red Cross;
also the Bill Fingland
Day Care Centre ,was
named for him.
He is now to be
recognized , • by the
Niagara Falls Lions Club
as this organization is
dedicating its new
recreation complex in his
honour because of the
tremendous role he has
played in the religious,
educationaland social
life of that .community.
Truly, Niagara 'Falls city
knows how to honour its
great men while they are
still living.
