The Bible assumes, but does not argue the existence of God. The Bible says, "The fool has said in his heart, 'There is no God."' Psalm 14:1. The Bible reveals the nature of God. The OId Testament emphasizes the unity of God. "Beside me there is no God." Isaiah 44:6. Both OId and New Testaments indicate that God exists as a Trinity -- God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy. Spirit. Early in Genesis there are references to the Spirit of God (Genesis 1:2). The Son is seen frequently in the Old Testament as in Isaiah 9:6, "Unto us a son is given". He is called in this same verse, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace." In the New Testament the distinctness of the three Persons of the Godhead is more clearly seen. At the baptism of Jesus the Father spoke from heaven, and the Holy Spirit descended from heaven like, a dove, lighting upon Christ. Matt. 3:16, 17. The Father and the Comforter (Holy Spirit) are seen as distinct from Christ I'inself In verses .such as John 14:16. This truth of the divine trinity should be accepted by faith 'on the authority of the Scriptures even if it is beyond our understanding or ability to explain.
