Audrey Middleton read the lesson, and Canon F.H. Paull was in charge of the service. - Personals Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hulls and sons of Cornwall were visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dutot and Misty and new baby. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lippert of Highgate were visitors with the Deeves on the weekend. Edward Deeves is home again after spen- ding a few days in Stratford General Hospital. Several ladies of St, James Church, Middleton were happy with the results of .. their ticket selling at the Bayfield Fair and wish to thank everyone. Marnie Middleton recently returned.from a four day hike. on 'the Bruce Trail from Tobermory to Crystal Lake. Although their packs were heavy and the trail very rugged, the breathtaking beauteous country made it a memorable occasion. It was interesting to note that there were more American hikers on the trail than Canadians and yes, although prepared for snake bites, they didn't see any rattlers. First farmer The first settler to make his living from farming in Canada was Louis Hebert, who in 1617 cleared land near Quebec City . and grew grain, pumpkins and beans.
