Baptist church news
By Janet Talbot
The regular services at
the Bayfield Baptist
Church began with
Sunday School at 10 am,
led by the superin-
tendent, Doyle Cullen,
with Mrs. Ann Chapman
directing the music and
Mrs. Cathi Cullen at the
piano. Mrs. Jean Greer
and Mrs. Ann Chapman
were in charge of the
nursery for the morning
service and Mrs. Phyllis
Nicholson led the junior
Church.
The Pastor. Rev. Les
Shiel, gave the message
at both services, with
Mark Nicholson assisting
with the song service and
prayer. In the morning
the Pastor used Acts
chapter 27, as the
congregational Bible
reading, this passage
tells about Paul being
shipwrecked and they put
out four anchors to hold
the ship off from the
rocks. Using the theme -
Anchors of the soul --the
Pastor likened the storm
tossed sea to the storms
in the sea of life, and
stressed the first anchor
to hold us steady when
the storms and trials are
really rough is the
sovereignty of God.
At the close of the
evening service, which is
an in-depth study of the
Book of Ephesians, the
monthly Communion
service was shared with
Deacons John Keys and
Bruce Nicholsop
assisting.
The members and
friends of the Bayfield
Baptist Church gathered
at the home of. Mr. and
Mrs. Joe Chapman for a
corn roast on Labour day
'at 5 p.m. The weather
was perfect, the food
plentiful and delicious,
and the fellowship just
grand. Every one
reported a good time and
hope this could work into
an annual event.
