HomeMy WebLinkAboutClinton News-Record, 1978-08-31, Page 15I " Auburn news • The 20th annual Memorial Service of Hope Chapel Cemetery, Hullett Township, was held last Sunday af- ternoon with the Reverend John Roberts of Belgraye as guest speaker. ' Miss Alison Roberts of Belgrave accompanied on her accordion for the singing of the hymns. The opening hymn was Guide Me 0 Thou Great Jehovah and the scrip- ture lesson was read from St. John llth chapter. In his inspiring message, Mr. Roberts pointed out that people are bonded together with a common bond of suf- fering and also of bereavement and the Christian should react with thankfulness and faith. In closing, Mr. Roberts stated that death is the horizon of life and if one travels in faith as far as the horizon, one 'still journeys on • • t t Memorial Service held Kenneth Hunking received the offering. The service was closed with the hymn, Breathe on Me Breath of God and the benediction. The service had been planned by the trustees, Harry Webster, chair- man, Jack Lee, Lorne Hunking, Ted Hunking, Andrew Kirkconnell and Tom Cunningham. Mrs. Lloyd McClinchey is the secretary. FAMILY PICNIC The Plunkett annual picnic was held on Sunday, August 20, in the Auburn Community Memorial Hall. Everyone met outside for an hour of games and contests. The smorgasbord supper was served in the hall after which a short business was held. McDonald of Feolquoy, Orkney Islands and Miss Jean McDonald of Glasgow, Scotland. Mrs. Robert Turner and Miss Lynn Turner of London visited last Wednesday in Sarnia with the formers' granddaughter, 'Mrs. Gary Leonard, Mr. Leonard and girls. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Carver of Crawfordsville, Indiana, visited last week for a couple of days with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Davies. Misses Kirn and Kari Robinson of Newmarket visited last week with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Robinson. The sympathy of the community is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Campbell on the death of his mother, Mrs. Valerie Campbell. Mr. James Hembly of Atwood and former manager of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Com- merce, visited last Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johnston and Miss Laura Phillips. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Sisley and Mrs. Helen Pepper of Niagara Falls visited last Friday with Miss Laura Phillips and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johnston. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Baechler attended the wedding of his nephew, Joe Hines to Deborah Kowalika at the Church of Carnation. Hamilton, last Saturday. The reception followed at the Moose Lodge, Hamilton. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Elliott of Toronto visited on the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Miller. Miss Tracy Renon of Elmira returned 'home after visiting a week with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Baechler. A large crowd attended the wedding reception in the Community Memorial Hall for Mr. and Mrs. Jim Lawlor who were married recently. Mr. Phil Clark congratulated the newlyweds and on behalf of relatives and friends, presented them with a purse of money. Mr. and Mrs. Lawlor thanked everyone for the gift. A.C.W. The August meeting of St. Mark's Anglican Church Women was held in St. Mark's Anglican Church with Mrs. John Daer in charge. The meeting was opened with all reading the hymn, Jesus Shall Reign Where'er The Sun. The scripture lesson, Psalm 107, was read by Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell followed by prayers by Mrs. Lillian Leatherland. A reading, Don't Quit, was given by Mrs. Thomas Haggitt. Mrs. Robert Slater had the topic, The Open Door. It was an inspiring message dealing with life's problems and how to overcome them when a crisis comes. A reading, Wings of Prayer, was given by Mrs. Thomas Haggitt and this part of the meeting was closed with prayer. The president Mrs. Donald Cartwright, took charge of the business. The minutes were ac: cepted as read by the secretary, Mrs. John Daer. The treasurer, Mrs. Thomas Haggitt, presented the finanial statement. A thank you note was read from Mrs. Elmer Trommer for the autographed towel she had returned as a farewell gift. Mrs. Robert Slater thanked the members for the card of congratulations sent to them on their silver wedding anniversary. The roll call was an- swered by a Bible verse of choice by 12 members. Angela Schneider received the offering. Plans were made for the next meeting to be held on September 20. The meeting was closed with prayer.
