CLINTON NEWS RECORD , ixuxsopY, AUGUST 24 1978—PAGE Londesboro Messengers hold_Caribbeah styled party by Dora Shobbrook Messengers meet On Tuesday, August 15 • at 2 pm the Messengers held a "Bombacher" at the home of their leader, Mrs. iTrenda Radford. A "bombacher" is a Caribbean word meaning party.. The boys and girls enjoyed an hour's play in and around the swim- ming .pool, following which they spent some time working on a mural to illustrate their course of study, The Caribbean Connection. A lunch of fresh fruit ird fruit punch, such as ribbean children might have, closed the gathering. United Church Greeting • the congregation into the sanctuary on Sunday morning were Earl Gaunt and ushers Cheryl Lyon, Rose Mason, Dianna Shobbrook and Shelley Westerhout. The soloist was Kevin Hulley, accompanied by Louise McGregor on the organ. Rev, Stan MacDonald gave the children's story and the junior teacher was Joan Whyte. Flowers on the memorial stand were placed in memory of Mrs. Athol Bruce by her family. Rev. McDonald an- nounced that the Hope Chapel Cemetery decoration service will be held on Sunday, August 27 at 3 pm. In case of rain, the service will be held in the Londesboro United Church. Cheerio Club The Cheerio Club held their meeting on August 16 at the home of Doreen Carter. The meeting opened with musical selections .and Gladys Armstrong gave a reading. Acting president, Vi Burns welcomed all and thanked Mrs. Carter for the use of her home. The minutes of the last meeting and the financial report were read by Mrs. Armstrong and 11 members and two visitors, Mrs. Carter and Evelyn Holmes answered the roll call which asked Goderich Twp. council 5 estates for Benmiller BY SHIRLEY J. KELLER Developer Jim Morris of Goderich, and architect Nick Hill, also of Goderich, have received approval from Goderich Township Council for the severances Morris will need to build five estate residences at Benmiller. There are some conditions attached to the approval, however•- The developer has been requested to pay a sum of $2,500 representing five per cent of the land value, to the township. This is according to the planning act which specifies that in the case of a new, development, the developer must give the municipality either five per cent of the land for recreation purposes, or cash representing five per cent of the value of the development land. Goderich Township in this instance, requested the money which it is un- derstood will be applied to recreational facilities in the township. A second condition applies, that a new road to service the new develop- ment be built by the developer in ac- cordance with township and engineering standards. A paved road is called for under the township agreement. In other business, council members approved tile drain loans requested by H.B. Whitely, E,U. Mcllwain and 'Chester Sturdy. They also approved building permits as follows: Ed Szusz, swimming pool; Fred Van Marr, two silos and an addition to his barn; Gordon Johnston, workshop; Stanley Freeman, barn demolition; Nick Den Boer,^ corn crib; Philip Bugler, swimming pool; Fred Couch, tool shed; and Don Forbes, verandah. 'The tender of Radford Construction to load and spread 17,000 yards of gravel at 55 per yard and another 2,000 yards at $1.10 was accepted by council. It was the lowest of three tenders. Radford was also hired t $40: per hour to clean out an open portion of a land drain, as tendered by council: Two tenders were received. for a current event or a pet peeve. For the program, Ida Durnin gave a reading as did Mrs. Burns. A contest, livestock breeds, was conducted by Mrs. Durnin and several games of Bingo were played. The September meeting will be held by Group 1 on September 20 at the home of Laura Lyon. Lunch was served by Mrs. Armstrong, Mrs. Burns and Mrs. Durnin. Personals Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Bruce on the death of his mother, Mrs. Athol Bruce of Belgrave on August 16. Don Harris of Kamloops, B.C. spent Wednesday night with his cousin Mr. and Mrs. Bert Shobbrook and called on Mrs. Laura Sandercock and Mr. and Mts. Gordon Shobbrook. Miss Ruby McVittie of Clinton spent the past week with her cousins, Those who received county honors at the 4-H achievement day in Clinton last week for com- pleting six projects are left to right, standing Jennifer Rock of Moncrieff, Cheryl Campbell of McKillop, and Peggy Humpries of Walton. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Shaddick and Lloy accompanied him and are visiting their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Dodds in Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Barney Pollock, Toronto visited on Sunday with tier sister Mrs. Alice Davidson, their mother Mrs. Grace Fairey remained with Alice. Mr. and Mrs. David Fairservice and Maureen of D'Ormeaux, Quebec are spending this week with his mother Mrs. Myrtle 1airservice. They spent Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Dave Mair at Dearborn Heights, Michigan. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Vodden and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Shobbrook visited, on Thursday night with Mr. and Mrs.. Jack Burchill of RR 2, Dublin. Colleen Carter of Exeter spent the weekend with her parentt Mr.,and Mrs. Qlen Carter. "Sunshine Times" sponsored a bus trip on the Sherwood Bus Lines to the CNE on Sunday. Going from here were Lorne and " Addie Dunking, Marjorie Bickel', : Maria and Mae Smith,.. Margaret Taylor and Alice Buchanan. They all enjoyed the Scottish Festival. John and Claude Cartwright returned home on Sunday after spending last week with their aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Kuntz and family in Kitchener, Visitors on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Longman were her sister Mr. and Mrs. Jack Burleigh of Goderich.
