citizens and
professionals, Dr. John
Wallace died suddenly on
Friday, July 14,

as a medical practitioner
to Goderich and area
people for over 47 years
and was said to be a great
friend to his patients as
well as a true
humanitarians.
The 74 -year old
physician was a lifelong
resident of Goderich.
Immediately following
his death, the John
Wallace Memorial Trust
Fund was established.
The donations to this fund
will be used to purchase
needed equipment for the
Alexandra Marine and
General Hospital.
The St. Marys Journal
Argus reported that the
town's police association
will enter into arbitration
in an attempt to gain
concessions on the still
undecided 1978 contract.

Advocate reported that
the Grand Band cotirlciLis.
offering no comments
about an offer from two
neighboring townships to
join the village instead of
losing land to the village
through annexation.
Bosanquet and Stephen
Townships made the offer
to Grand Bend after the
village refused to drop its
legal action to annex a
portion of the townships.
The area that Grand
Bend is considering
annexing would increase
the village population and
more than double its
assessment.
Members of the
Wingham planning board
have all resigned, the
Wingham Advance -
Times has learned.
The group resignation
came as a protest against
the town council's recent
decision to permit further
construction of high
density single family
dwellings in town.
In a letter to the council
the planning . board ex-
plained: "When. the
advice of the planning
board is repeatedly
disregarded we feel that

suggested that council
tighten up the wording on

these units.
The Lucknow Sentinel
reported that Harold
Greer of Lucknow was
recently awarded a

was accepted by the
council.

It was on and off again
for a reporter from the
Mitchell Advocate this
past week during a town
council meeting there.
In a story on the
meeting, it was reported
that after the council
called the meeting to
order at 7 pm, they ap-
proved a motion calling
for the meeting .
corn m ittee-of-the-whole.
The Advocate reporter
and another writer were
excluded from this
discussion for two hours.
When council was
opened again, no mention
was made of the private
conversation of council
and a motion was passed
that "we report
favorably on discussion
held in the committee -of -
the -whole."
'No further indication of
what was discussed was
offered.
At 10:45 pm council
again asked the reporters
to leave the room and the
meeting was once again
closed. An hour later it
was opened again and as
before a motion was
passed, accepting three
reports but no indication
to what those reports
included was given.
Both the Mayor, Harold
Jordan and councillor
Fred Scott declined to
comment on the closed
sessions after the
meeting.
Mayor Jordan said
police were discussed,
