WI honor grandmoms
The Clinton WI met at
the Clinton Conservation
Park on July 20 for
Grandmother's Day.
After the opening
exercises, arrangements
were made for the
group's participation in
the upcoming plowing
match as well as a bus
trip in September.
Mrs. Mervyn Batkin
and Mrs. Muriel Grigg
conducted several con-
tests and Mrs. Jennie
Wise was the oldest
grandmother present.
Mrs. M. Gerrits had the
• most grandchildren and
Mrs. ,Leona Holland was
the grandmother married
the youngest. Mrs. Helen
Rathwell was the
grandmother with the
closest birthday.
Bingo games were won
by Mrs. Holland, and
Mrs. R. Baker. A
guessing contest of
grocery items was won
by Mrs. Rathwell and
Doris Batkin was able to
throw a rolling pin the
farthest. Mrs. Pearl
Cummings had the
largest shoes, and Mrs.
M. Anderson, the
smallest. A clothesline
relay and purse contents
relay were also enjoyed.
Everyone took part in
the concluding event, a
delicious lunch.
The next WI meeting
will be held on September
20.
Huronview news
Twenty-five members
of Huronview's Over 90
Club attended the annual
picnic at the Con-
servation Park in Clinton
last Wednesday af-
ternoon. The Walkerburn
Club volunteers, Mrs. Pat
Hunking, Ila Cun-
ningham, Kay Lapp and
Eileen McClinchey,
assisted with activities.
Three junior volunteers,
Joy McClinchey and Julie
and Debbie Cunningham,
were in charge of the
contests and the
Huronview Orchestra
entertained with Old
Tyme and sacred music.
Several Huronview
residents enjoyed the
Scottish concert in
Clinton on Saturday
evening. Many thanks to
the Murphy Bus Lines
who donated the tran-
sportation.
Mr. Dick Roorda led
the Christian Reform
Sunday evening song
service at Huronview
accompanied by
Margaret McQueen, with
vocal numbers by Mrs.
Bylsma.
The Huronview
residents were en-
tertained on Family
Night with a concert by
the Bob Heywood
Orchestra of Exeter. The
concert was held on the
front lawn of the Home
and was appreciated by,
all the residents. Bob
plays the accordion and
sings many of the sacred
and favorite songs. The
other two members of the
group are Calvin Horner
on guitar and Jeff Rooth
on drums. -
Several Huronview
residents have been
enjoying the plays at the
Huron Country
Playhouse in Grand
Bend.

Mr. and Mrs. Don
McLachlan
Local girl married
The marriage of
Rhonda Richardson,
daughter of Karen and
Carl Richardson and Don
McLachlan, son of Bob
and Muriel McLachlan
took place on Saturday,
June 24, 1978 at
Brucefield United Church
with Rev. E. S. Stephens
officiating.
The bride who was
given away by her
parents, was attended by
Sandra Hulley, Seaforth,
maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Peggy
Richardson, sister of the
bride, and Carol Collins
of Walton, sister of the
groom.
John Hamilton of Staffa
was the best man and the
ushers were David
Richardson of Brucefield,
brother of the bride and
Dave Collins of Walton,
brother-in-law- of the
groom. Soloist was
Theresa Hicknell and the
organist was Barb
Livermore.
Following the reception
at the White Carnation,
Holmesville, the couple
left for Kingston, Ontario
on their honeymoon.
They will reside jin
Chatham, ,Ontario.
Showers were held for
the bride by Mrs. Verlyn
Kyle, Thamesville,
Sandra Hulley and Vicky
Oroerk, Peggy Richar-
dson and Laurie Moodie
and Brucefield United
Church.

Joseph Leo Flynn Wingham; Earl .Flynn,
Clinton; Frank Flynn,
A lifelong resident of Clinton, Steve Flynn,
Hullett Township, Joseph Clinton and Larry Joe
Leo Flynn died suddenly F1ynn,Kitchener.
at Huronview on July 18. Flower' bearers were
He was 75 years old. Robert Dupee, Clinton;
Mr. Flynn was born in Dawn Powell, Clinton;
Hullett on August 26, 1902 Lesa Butt, Stratford and
to Owen and Minnie Jeffery Clark, Stratford.
Flynn. He lived on lot 14, Mrs. Clarence
concession 1 and lot 23, Montgomery
concession 6 in Hullett.
He attended public school
at Hullett SS No. 2 and
took up farming as his
work. In 1930, Mr. Flynn
married Mabel Marg
Riley in Clinton.
Mr. Flynn was a
member of St. Joseph's
Roman Catholic Church
in Clinton.
He is predeceased by
his wife and surved by his
children Mrs. Jean
(Charles) Shelton,
Goderich; John,Hugh and
Bill, all of Hullett; Hazel
Aines, Wingham;
Dorothy Dupee, Clinton;
Frances Butt, Stratford;
and Rita Powell, Clinton.
He is also survived by a
sister, Mary Melday of
Dublin and a brother,
Theo of Hullett as well as
29 grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were
held at St. Joseph's
Church on July 2,0.
Interment followed in the
Clinton cemetery.
Pallbearers were Allan
Shelton, Goderich;
Laurie Haines.

Mrs. W. Clarence
Montgomery, 77, of 119
Main Street N., Seaforth,
died Saturday July 22 at
Seaforth Community
Hospital.
Born in Goderich
Township, the former
Bessie Snider, she was a
daughter of the late
Joshua Snider and the
former Matilda Troyer.
She was a seamstress
in her early life. She was
a member of the Church
of God.
She was married to
Clarence Montgomery in
Brantford in 1932. The
couple came to live in
Kinburn in 1937 and they
retired to Seaforth in
1961.
Surviving are her
husband, •a daughter,
Mrs. Gordon (Joy)
Heiser of Indiana; two
sons, Glen of RR1,
Belgrave, and Lyle of
Clinton' two nieces, Mrs.
Erma (Woods) Davis and
Beulah Woods. Also
surviving are four
grandchildren.
She was predeceased
by brothers Emmerson
and Gerald and sisters
Ethel Woods and Lulu
Mae Gregor.
The body rested at the
R.S. Box Funeral Home
in Seaforth where service
was held Tuesday. July 25
with Mr. Donald Snell
officiating. Interment
was in Clinton Cemetery.
James Ernest
Pollock
A Stanley Township
native, James Ernest
Pollock died suddenly in
Clinton Public Hospital
on July 22 following a
stroke. He was in his 89th
year.
Mr. Pollock was born in
Stanley on November 3,
1889 to William and Edith
Pollock. He was educated
at Stanley SS No. 5 and
also graduated ' from
business college in
London. In 1921 he was
married to Edith Car-
penter in London.
Mr. Pollock worked
with insurance, farming
and bookkeeping and
served in World War 1,
training at Valcartier
Camp. He was also a
former 'school trustee at
SS No.. 3 in Stanley and
was a member of the
Presbyterian Church and
Bible Society. He and his
family resided in London
and later moved to
Varna.
He is survived by his
Blind Club enjoy supper
The Bluewater
Canadian Council of the
Blind held their regular
meeting in the Orange
Hall Clinton Tuesday
evening July 18. A pot-
luck supper was enjoyed
by membersr and their
friends. Mr.and Mrs.
Brock Olde ' and Miss
Roda Munnings helped
with the setting of 'tables
and pouring of coffee.
Miss Rachel Johnson
rounded out the evening
with a program of games
and fun.
During the month of
July, the i.nndnn CCR
Club entertained the
Bluewater club at the
CNIB in London. The
ladies from Birr served a
delicious meal with a
dessert of home made
pie.
September 14 will be a
very special clay in
Clinton for, the blind
people and community.
Grand Master Chosen
At the Grand Lodge of
Canada for the Province
of Ontario held at the
Royal York in Toronto on
Wednesday, July 19, Earl
Rawson of 205 Blake
Street in Goderich, was
chosen by the 17 Masonic
Lodges of the South
Huron District as District
Deputy Grand Master for
1978-79.

Florida. He is also sur-
vived by one sister, May
Copeland of Toronto

held on July 24 at the Ball
Funeral Home in Clinton
with -Rev: Taylor in
charge. Interment
followed in the Bayfield
Cemetery.

Curran, Frank
McClinchey, Bob Web-
ster, Brill Pollock and Bill
Armstrong. Flower
bearers were his gran
dsons, Ricky and Stew
Pollock.
Mrs. Laycox-Skinner
Mrs. Amy Laycox-
Skinner, 81, of Varna, and
formerly of Cochrane,
died Thursday at
Seaforth Community
Hospital.
She was born in Owen
Sound, a daughter of the
late William and Jane
(Frame) Gillis.
She was predeceased
by her first husband,
Henry Laycox, in 1934
and her second husband,
Robert Skinner in 1970.
Surviving are six
daughters, Mrs. Alynn
(Nellie) Dale and Mrs.
Walter (Pearl) Dale, both
of Seaforth; Mrs. Ernest
(Dorothy) Bentley and
Mrs. Albert (Blanche)
Blouin, Cochrane; Mrs.
Ross (Alfreda) Lyons,
Ingersoll; and Mrs. Toni
(Haiel) Veau, Cochrane;
three sons, Morrell
Laycox, Cochrane; Earl
Laycox, Varna and Allyn
Laycox, Owen Sound.
Also -surviving • are 37
grandchild, 55,, great-
, grandc1, 44atnd ..oue
great -great-grandchild.-

She was, predeceased
by tvo sons Alfred and
Melville.
Maitland Lodge No. 33
Goderich has not had a
member of its lodge as
District Deputy for...
nearly 30 years when the
post was held by Rt..Wor.
A. R. Scott of 46 Elgin
Avenue, West, Goderich.
Mr. Rawson served as
Worshipful Master of
Maitland Lodge No. 33
Goderich in 1974.
Thirty-four masons
from Goderich, Carlow,
Clinton, ,Monkton and
Mitchell made up the bus
load who attended Grand
Lodge from this area.
The R.S. Box Funeral
Home, Seaforth and the
Tannahill Funeral Home,
Owen Sound were in
charge of the funeral
arrangements. The
service was held in Owen
Sound Saturday at 11
a.m. with burial following
in St. Marks Cemetery,
Holland Centre.
