By Rosemary Armstrong The Clinton Soccer Club met the much talked about Curinga Soccer team of London at the weekend in a Third Division League game and came from being 3-1 down to tie the London team 3-3, earning a well deserved point and stretching Clinton's unbeaten league record to seven games. At 3 p."m. on the hottest day in Clinton for over 60 years, the two teams took to the field, Clinton with only one 'substitute while Curinga had all three allowed and used them frequently to rest exhausted players. Both teams started off playing, well, despite the heat until 25 minutes into the game when Clinton made a costly mistake as Hellman misthrew a ball right on to the feet of a Curinga forward who couldn't believe his luck and quickly passed to an unmarked colleague who blasted a shot into the back of the Clinton net, and. Winton was one goal dowrtc With the wind knocked out of them, Clinton sat back and a few minutes late.r found themselves two goals down as Curinga took advantage of the lapse and kept pressingr`ight up to the half time whistle, The second half started with more of the same until Alex Harrett in true captain's fashion rallied his team with a glorious goal and set them on their feet again. This was short lived when Curinga scored from another defensive mistake to put the score at 3-1 and things looked grim for Clinton. Fifteen minutes from time, Gary Hesslewood- the Clinton substitute goal keeper, came out on the right-wing and worked hard to spark his team to life again. Nobody was more elated than Gary when a hard shot on goal beat the Curinga 'keeper and ended up in the net for Gary's firstever goal, and the score now 3-2. With this much needed "shot in the arm", the weary Clinton players Twilight races out The third and final night of twilight racing, set to go at 6 pm tonight (Thursday) at the Clinton Kinsmen, , Raceway, has been cancelled. The track, which also races on- Sunday, was losing several thousand dollars a week on the Thursday night operation and it was decided last week to cancel the final night of racing rather than lose even more. . Only slightly over 600 fans turned out at each of the first two nights, betting $33,000 and $35,000 for the two nights, far below the $55,000 needed to break even. The track gets about 10 percent . of the total handle, and must pay all their wages and purses , Turn to page 11 • ipwwrYMVYWM a a i • 3 • 3 a 3 s i 2 2 s a 2 a s a 2 a 2 a 7 a a a a 9' a ;i a ' ai :1 } • 2 a Y . I am unable to do work of any kind due to this injury and the WCB agrees that I am totally disabled, but the Canada Pension people have now rejected my claim as they seem to think that i can still be gainfully employed. I have appealed its rejection of my claim for disability benefits, but my claim was turned down. Where do I go from here? Good news for our long suffering reader. It was the other driver's fault and 1 believe he was charged by the police, anyway he was insured by State Farm and they have sent a cheque to cover the cost of repairing my car. My complaint however, is that I am out the cost of a towing fee, plus the cost of a rental car for three days, this was essential for my job as a salesman. We have received word from this in- surance company that a cheque has now been issued our reader. The delay was apparently caused because the other driver originally stated that our reader was going at an excessive speed, however since he is not going ahead with this allegation, State Farm have paid this claim in full. ze y E SRG • ECONOMY • QUALITY • SERVICE The Canadian Home In- sulation Program now covers homes built prior to 1946. "Cars can cause trouble at anytime, it's the same thing as people getting sick, but thank goodness there's always the hospital emergency." We agree that our reader has a good point, but it's just a matter of basic economics, because today licensed mechanics are in the high income bracket and a garage, service station, or even a new car dealership siniply cannot afford to stay opens and pay high wages.. to a skilled mechanic ju$t to have him around for any emergencies that might occur.
