Mr. John 3. McPhee complains that in con
sequence of the incomploted contract of A,
Campbell ou road allowance on 17 and 18

ience and loss, and by petition requests the
council to put said road in a passable state
as soon as possible -in compliances with
said petition, it was moved by D. French,
sec by C. Eilber that Reeve and clerk to let
said job, if not dune in 30 days, and assess
against said contractor the extra expense of
re -letting and if not be paid, to place his bond
in our solicitors hands for enforcement.

Mr. John Essery, of Usborne, has got
his new barn up and when finished will

foot brick wall. Messrs Neil anti Davis
of Centrala, have the fraise work, and
Mr Jas, Sweet c f Exeter, the mason
work. -Mr. S. Essery has got his barn
moved and jacked up ready for the
mascns and framers, who are Neil and
Zurich.
BriEi's.-Our town presented rather' a
quiet appearance on Friday last, the
est inst., our sports spending the day
at the Grand Bend. By all accounts
they enjoyed themselves immensely. -
Messrs. Dumart and Weseloh, tanners,
are putting then' engine and boiler
under repairs. Mr. W. takes a trip
through the northern towns purchas-
ing hides.
PEasONALS.-Sir. Emmanuel Merner,
of the firm of .I. & E. Dlerner, is home
again after spending a weeks holiday
with friends in Hamburg. -Miss Mer-
ner is entertaining her cousins from
Illinois and Hamburg. -Miss Edith
Steinbach, accompanied by Miss Edith
Dyer, of Exeter. is spending a few
weeks with her uncle, Mr. R. Boswell,
of Goderrch, who was a former resident
of Zurich, they were .also accomi•anied
by Mr. Dan Dyer, who returned on Mon-
day -Our old friend, Mr, J. K. Wing,
of London, gave us a shake this week.
--Mr. A. G. Dyer, of Exeter, passed
through here last week. -Miss Lettie
Zeller is visiting her sister, Mrs. John

returned from Hamilton on Monday,
where he has been attending his de-

On Monday evening, the 27th ult.,
members from Zion and Cooper's ap-
pointmente on Woodham circuit were
seen wending their way to the village
where they were met by their friends
of this place. A large assemblage was
gathered at the church and from thence
they proceeded to the parsonage, On
arriving, an appropriate address was
read to Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Fear by Mr.
W. Beatty, They Were presented with
two elegant chairs, Mrd, Fear also re-
ceived a handsome silver butter dish.

BRIEFS.-Dlr. G. W, Holman, who
had an attack of scarlett ,'ever, is able
to be around again. -Mr. Ed. L,ddicott,
who has been a resident of London for
some months, is out to spend a week
or two for the benefit of his health. A
few days in the hay field will bring him
to an appetite.-Tbe hay crop, which
the farmers are now busily engaged in
taking in, is very good. -Fall wheat is
beginning to ripen and threshers are
making preparations for an early start.
-The tea and strawberry festival held
in connection with the S. S., on July
1st was a grand success. The grounds
were all that could be desired, and
everynody from the youngest to the
oldest seemed to enjoy themselves, in
fact so pleasant an afternoon has not
been spent in many years. Addresses
were delivered by the Revs. J. Holmes,
Godfrey and Penhall, music by the
school. Croquet, running; jumping,
vaulting, tug of war &c. made the after•
noon pass too swiftly away.

Beatty, of the 3rd Line, Blanshard, fell
on the sidewalk in a neighboring town
one day last week and fractured the
small hone in one of her arms. -While
raking hay at a neighbors on Tuesday
evening, Mr. Dav si Roger was ticked
in the stomach by the horse he wits
driving and knocked off the rake. His
injuries are reported to be very serious,
-Misses Dickenson, of St. • Marys, and
Williamson•, of London, were recently

after which the people assembled to hear

previous meeting react and signed. Mr.
McLaren, Reeve of Hibbert appeared be-
fore the council with reference to the
Statute Labor done on the boundary
between Usborne and Hibbert. It was
moved by J. Shier seconded by W. Kydd
that after hearing Mr. MeLaren's state-
ment, we recommenceelthatthe Reeve as-
certain the number of loads of gravel laid
on the boundary by Usborne Patllmasters,
and that the Reeve be also empowered to
settle with Hibbert according to agree-
ment. -Carried. Moved by W. Kydd,
seconded by J. Halls that Mr. E. Stone
be paid the sum cf $15.40 for board and
care of Thos. Bennett, an indigent, being
payment in full to date. --Carried. Moved
