The Bairds were presented with a framed certificate and a weather station, containing a barometer, thermometer and hygrometers engraved with their names. (Expositor photo) by Shelley McPhee Many people have the ultimate dream of owning a small company, of being the boss for once, ,instead of being bossed around. However, the true consequences of such an endeavour are often completely by- passed by many idealists. One person who has` not forgotten the worst that can happen is Keith Roulston. Whether it is through his own personal experiences or hearsay, Roulston seems to know everything that could go wrong for a new en- thusiastic boss, from —radical employees and a fed up Wife to a bumbling secretary. With these outcomes in mind, Roulston suc- cessfully shows that the "other man's grass is not only greener," in his Second show almost sold out The second production of the Country Playhouse in Grand Bend, Parlor, Bedroom and Bath, a stylish frothy twenties Broadway farce, is almost sold out for its entire one-week run which starts Tuesday, July 18. Evening per- formances are at 8:30 with a Wednesday matinee at 2 :30 p.m.. "This is a record ad- vance sale for us," said James Murphy, founder and managing director of the Playhoiase''iiow in its seventh season. "It even surpasses the advance we had on Hello Dolly and George Washington Slept Here last year." Popular London ,radio and television personality Tues. -Sat. 8:30 Wed. 2:30 Tel. 238-8451 NOW PLAYING "Parlor, Bedroom And Bath" by by charles bell and mark swan Judy Savoy costars in Parlor, Bedroom and Bath, playing Polly Hathaway, a bubbly but intriguing gossip columnist. Rex Stallings, New York -based actor making his third Playhouse appearance, costars with her as Reginald Irving,, a bumblingly naive, but not too innocent chap whose new wife, Angelica, has been given reason to believe he is really a philanderer, relishing the whole idea to the extent of helping concoct schemes to enhance his reputation while basking in the role of suffering, loving wife, Ann de Villiers plays Angelica. She follows hot after her audience - pleasing performance as Cecily Pidgeon in The Phillips. resigns In a letter addressed to the President of the Stratford Shakespearean Festival received on July 14, 1978, Robin Phillips, Artistic Director, has submitted his resignation effective November, 1978. Mr. Phillips is currently in England recovering from surgery and is expected back in Stratford within the next few weeks. The Stratford Festival has never been more successful in the achievement of its total aims and objectives than it has under the direc- torship of Robin Phillips. A special committee is being formed by the President to discuss the situation with Robin Phillips on his return to Stratford. It is hoped that some arrangement might be worked out to extend Robin's tenure to cover the 1979 season. His Own Bos_ s is a lighthearted calamity which depicts the short career of Howard Hopewell. Hopewell, played by Peter Snell is an ambitious character who faces more than his share of problems with the white elephant cheese factory that he has acquired. Not only is his business a (Complete, mess, but he must deal with a nagging wife, played by Karen Weins. His wife Harriett just adds to Howard's problems with her accusations and threats of divorce. As if that's not enough for a hopeful executive, Howard must deal with the antics of his nephew Michael, played by David Odd Couple, which launched the Playhouse season with capacity audiences every per- formance of its two-week run. Trader Selkirk plays Jeffrey, Haywood in his Playhouse bow, Reginald's friend and conniver of his mythtfs a lady's man. He has amorous leanings for Angelica's • sister Virginia, but the other- wise dashing, handsome young swain is not con- sidered by Angelica "proper" enough for her. So the plot rolls hilariously on and on. Alden ;Jones. as Frederic Leslie, Marion Gilsenan as Nita Leslie, and Marilyn Boyle as Leila Crofton delightfully support the wacky, often saucy shenanigans of this upper -crust. New York set, while Murray Ellis, Janet Walters and Stan Lacey round out the stylized cast of characters. Original colorful costumes for this production have been created -by. TV, niovie, and stage designer Linda Matheson, adding to the elegance of resident set designer Alistair MacRae's 1917 townhouse setting. James Murphy directed, his 17th production as artistic director of the Country Playhouse. Next week the first public performances of a new comedy, Two Below will be presented. The George R. Robertson - written play has a whimsical male recluse versus an ardent woman's "libber". Oklahoma! follows for two weeks, August 1-12. y e > 1410.111• Seaforth Junior 'Centenaires' Booster'Club Presents A CONCERT AND DANCE with RONNIE PROPHET Juno Award Winner and Star of CTV'S Grand Old Country :utd tht.. Kirby who keeps the play in a constant uproar with his radical threats to form a union amongst the workers. Then there's the in- spector, Thomas Aber- cromby II played by Tom McCamus. His corny one liners and grating laugh would get on anyone's nerves. - Kate Trotter, playing the sweet but useless secretary, Cindy Phillips gets a good share of the laughs in the play with her futile efforts to keep the company together. Some of the best lines in the play and the most witty attacks against the federal government come from Heather Ritchie who plays the Local newspaper publisher Marion McCoy. Ritchie gives one of the best performances in the play as the hardened publisher who seems to know all the difficulties that Howard will en- counter. Her relationship' with Howard as an ad- visor and their con- versations with him are_ obvious crowd pleasers. Roulston has ef- fectively used stereotypes in this play to develop the plot and like a good comedy, makes sure that everything works out in the end. The play's suc- cessfulness was enhanced by the excellent office scene designed by Pat Flood and the good lighting by John Hughes. In each act the set ef- fectively portrays the mood of the scene. Directed by Gordon McCall this entertaining play will be performed throughout July and August.
