Last week they were reduced to pancakes ready for the smelter as a presser was working at Clere-Vu Auto Wreckers. After pressing in the 5,000 pound per square inch machine, powered by a 200 -horse diesel, this 1968 Chev. is reduced to a 16 -inch deep heap of metal. (News -Record photo) Before and After at the Auto Wreckers sfas After pressing the old wrecks, the cars are piled up in heaps and will be loaded on a truck and sent to a Hamilton steel foundry where some of the metal will be Salvaged. Some 400 cars succumbed to the crushing grip of the presser. Cars dating up to 1971 met their fate last week at Clere-Vu Auto Wreckers. The meeting opened with the ode; with Hat'ti Wood at ithe piano. First vice president Alice Buchanan conducted the meeting, welcomed all with some thoughts. Roll call was answered with memories of an earlier plowing match with 20 members and 4 visitors presetn. Minutes of. June meeting were read by secretary treasurer Marjorie Anderson. Duets were sun by Lisa and Kelly Bosman, ac- companied by their mother on the piano. Correspondence was from 4-I-1 project for fall Essential Edibles, leaders will be Hattie Snell, Kitty McGregor and Marjorie Duizer. A thank you was received from Florence Cartwright, Myrtle Keys; Flowers of Hope and a letter from plowing match explaining the WI's duties. Marg Anderson gave the- social committee report on graduation banquet and thanked all Middieton news by Blanche Deeves Morning Prayer was held in St. James Church on Sunday at 11:15 a.m, Edward Wise assisted by reading the Lesson., Dean AldWinkle and Edward Wise received the of- fering. Rev. Wm. Bennett was in charge of the service. Personals Miss Anne Mullens of Ottawa who attends Guelph University and is working for the summer in Crop Science Herbicide Research at Guelph University visited with her grandmother, Mrs. Fred, Middleton and other relatives in the vicinity on the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Moore of Hamilton and Mrs. Arabella Bushell of Clinton visited with Mrs. Fred Middleton last Thursday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Don Middleton left on Friday morning for a few days holiday in Kitchener, Elora, Holland Marsh vegetable gardens, then around Lake Simcoe to Wasaga and the Georgian Bay fruit country. Earl and Frances Schilbe will he celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary reception at the Clinton Legion Hall. Saturday evening, July 22. Friends and neighbors are invited to come. Mr. and Mrs. Frank King and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Davies and four children , all of Toronto were visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Dutot. Miss Dian Mills of Belmont visited the Deeves on Sunday: Nice to see the new doors are on St. James Church. Sorry to report that Joe Storey is a patient in Clinton Hospital. Get wishes are sent to Joe. Ray and Estelle Wise, along with Keith and Vera Miller, spent the weekend camping at Sauble Beach. Joan and little Penny Riley spent the week with Keith and Vera Miller and visiting other relatives and friends. Congratulations to Gerda Brand who while playing her accordian won first prize at Music Fest held at Holiday Inn in Toronto. This is the third time Gerda has won the adjudicator award. Beryl Reid Introduced the guest speaker Robyn Theedom # from Clinton Agriculture office, publicity chairman for the plowing match, she showed slides of other plowing matches since 1972 and spoke on plans for Huron County Plowing Match in Sep- tember 1978. She was thanked by Joan Mid- degaal and presented with a gift. Marg Anderson gave a reading about Norman Alexander from a farm paper on conservation of soil. Marjorie Anderson and Alice Buchanan attended the Recreation Committee meeting in regards to hall rent. Lunch was served by Beth Knox, Florence Cartwright and Annie Vincent. A draw was dopated by Alice Buchanan and won by Helen Lawson and Barbara Bosman.
