Many senior members were unable to attend which included Violet and Albert Horner and Celo Sloman. Mrs. Sloman is a patient in Clinton Public Hospital and family members hope she will soon be able to be home. Members came from Toronto, West Montrose, Atwood, Goderich, Londesboro, Clinton, Varna and Brucefield areas, Port Elgin, Ilderton and Mildmay. Donald and Joan Gower, Clinton, and Donald and Lois Johnson of Mildmay were in charge of the table games and sports. • The oldest person present, Mrs. Edna Stewart, Clinton; youngest person, David Rathwell, Varna; coming from the farthest, Kenneth Stewart, Toronto; grandparents with their anniversary nearest the picnic, Edgar and Helen Rathwell, Goderich; youngest grandmother, Willa Rathwell, RR3 Clinton; registration prize, Donald Rathwell, Varna; T-shirt without any printing, Krista McAsh; writing, name with paper on forehead, men, David Beynon, ladies, Dawn Rathwell. Winners in the outdoor games were: children under 5 years, Ben Rath - well, Colleen Gower, Keith Stirling; boys 8 and under, Darryn McAsh, CHSS grad with Petro -Canada Gordon E. Tebbutt by Elaine Townshend Former Goderich Township resident, Gordon E. Tebbutt, B.Sc., M.S., Ph.D., joined Petro - Canada's newly -formed Geological Research Department in Calgary in January of this year. • Dr. Tebbutt, , 38, graduated from Clinton District Collegiate Institute in 1958, acting as class, valedictorian and ,winning several scholarships as well as the Dominion -Provincial Bursary. He obtained his B.Sc. in Honours Geology from the University of Western Ontario in 1962, and in 1964, received his M.S. from the University ., of Wyoming. In 1967, he completed his Ph.D. at Rice University in 'Houston, Texas. 'While' attending university,, he was awarded several scholarships, including the American Chemical Society Fellowship and the National • Research Council of Canada Special Scholarship. Field trips took him to. such places as British Honduras, Mexico, Alaska, Florida and the Gulf Coast. Dr. Tebbutt had some teaching experience at Rice University in 1966 and has lectured to universities and private industries. He has also written several articles for international scien- tific journals and con- tributed one chapter to a book on the geology of British Honduras. From 1967 to 1969, he worked as a Geologist with Chevron Standard in Calgary and took part in sub -surface studies in the Northwest Territories, Yukon and Alberta Foothills. He spent the summer of 1968 con- ducting field studies in the Arctic Coastal Plain (Yukon), MacKenzie Delta area and MacKenzie Mountains. From 1969 until the end of 1977, he was Exploration Geologist for Banff Oil (now Aquitaine Co. of Canada), Calgary. Among his concerns were oil and gas exploration and land evaluation in northeastern B.C. He led a helicopter -supported field party into the Rocky Mountains and Foothills northwest of Fort St. John, B.C. in 1970. •Since 19'73, he has been involved in prospect evaluations in Eastern Canada, Mon- tana and North Dakota. In his new position as Research Geologist with Petro -Canada, he is responsible for the in- terpretation of facies, fauna and wdepositional environments of car- bonate rocks (for example, ancient and modern coral reefs) and their relationship to the occurrence of oil reservoirs. He is also carbonate petrologist for Western Canada and anywhere, worldwide, that a car- bonate study is requested. In April, he conducted field studies for research and training of company geologists in the Virgin Islands and Bahamas. Dr. Teb,P tt, his wife, Elizabeth Ann, and their two children reside in Calgary. Dr. Tebbutt is the son of Mr. and Mrs.Irvine Tebbutt of RR 2, Clinton. AVOID Costly Emergency Repair Bilis! Patients in the Clinton Public Hospital will now be able to spend their long hours watching a new color television. The television, the first colored one for the hospital was donated by the Clinton Kinette Club. Nursing director, Jean Cox also took interest in the new set as she looked through the TV listings for the day. (News -Record photo) 155 at Crich reunion The 43rd annual Crich reunion was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hugill, RR 2, Seaforth on Sunday, July 16 with an attendance of 155. A smorgasbord supper including a delicious pork barbecue prepared by- George and Alex Townsend was enjoyed by all. During the afternoon a very interesting program of sports was conducted by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Doug ,Hugill, and Mr. and. Mrs. George Turner. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Angus returned home after a week's vacation on Manitoulin Island. Donald Ashton of London visited his arandnarents Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Potter for a week recently. Their granddaughter Heather. Potter of Listowel visited with them last weekend. WI meet �e Goderich Township WItiheld a picnic on the lawn of Mrs. Alice Porter on Tuesday, July 11 with 10 members present. Mrs. Hazel McCreath chaired the opening of the meeting and the business. The roll call was" an- swered by naming the place you would like to spend your holidays. Achievement Day will be held in Ontario Street Church August 16. Mrs. Gonnie Tak requested all members save Kraft salad dressing and mayonnaise labels. A member of the WI , Mrs. Jean Lobb showed pictures of many places she visited while in Ireland and pictures with relatives she visited. She had traps of Ireland and one had many names familiar 'to ' Goderich Township. Mrs. Lobb told how the forefathers of these people immigrated to Canada in the 1800's and later to this. area. A committee was named to arrange a concert in the fall. Irene Cudmore arranged two contests with the win- ners, Thursa Miller and Helen . Lindsay. Alice Porter had prizes for the following: the one whose birthday closest to July 11, won by Thursa Miller; also Thursa had the most pennies with her; the closest wedding an- niversary, M'rs.. Jean Lobb; the most buttons, Mrs. Hazel McCreath; Mrs. Grace Walters guessed the lucky number. A picnic lunch was enjoyed and Mrs. Jean Lobb brought Irish soda bread, hard boiled eggs and 'cheese. These items plus a beverage are served once a day in an Irish horrie. Next meeting will be in September. Have a good summer, members. The next picnic will be held at the Murray Crich farm, RR 2 Cargill, Ontario on the third Sunday in July. "EVERYONE WELCOME", No Admission Charge Clinton and area obituaries David Glen Edward Fawcett David Glen Edward Fawcett died suddenly on Saturday, July 8 following a car crash in Bayfield. He was 17 years old. The Bayfield boy was born on September 15, 1960 to Carson and Margaret Fawcett, He attended Huron Cen- tennial Public School and Central Huron Secondary School. Along with his parents he is survived by two sisters, Nancy Louise of Calgary and Rebecca of Bayfield. Funeral services were held at the "Ball Funeral Home in Clinton on Tuesday, July 11 with Rev. William Bennett in charge. Interment followed in the Bayfield Cemetery. The pallbearers were Michael Gale, Herb Gale, Clay Stirling, Paul Schilbe, Jim" Bell, and Doug Wallis 'all of Bayfield. The flower bearers were Tommy Telford, Steven Telford, both of Bayfield . and Mark Toma of St. Thomas. Siebrand Wilts Siebrand Milts died in his Hullett Township home on Saturday, July 8. Hewas in his 71st year. Mr. Wilts is survived by his wife, the former Maria Kolder and his children, Mrs. Sieka (Teo) Van Steeg of Ilderton, Martin of Hullett Township, Mrs. Margeret (Gaby) Mole of Exeter, Gerrit of Hullett Township and Douwe of East Wawanosh Town- ship. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters Summerhill Ladies donate award Mrs. Evelyn Merrill opened her home for the July 12 meeting 'of the Summerhill Club. About 20 ladies answered the roll call by paying their fees and displaying some article of wearing ap- 'parel colored orange. Our new president, Sandra Westerhout opened the meeting with a poem. Phyllis Tyndall read. the minutes of the previous meeting and Lorna Ellis gave the treasurer's report. It was suggested that the ladies donate some type of award to a deserving student at Hullett Central School and Donna Gibbings was designated to approach principal A. McLennan as to what type of award would be suitable. The annual community picnic will be held on July 20 at the Conservation Park south of,Clinton at 7 p.m. In case of rain it will be held at Summerhill Hall. All members of the community are invited to attend. Bring a picnic lunch and your favourite beverage. There will be games and sports for the children and a baseball game. The next meeting will be at Verna Gibbing's home on August 8 at 8:30 p.m. Those on program and lunch are Alie and Sandra Westerhaut and Hazel Watkins. The roll call is to be answered by naming some antique in your home. Gladys and Susan Van Egmond played several selections on their. ac- cordians then Gladys accompanied a ,tape she had made of herself, playing the organ with her accordian.
