queries, queers and
whatever elses! Maybe
this column is easier to
digest less the frills.

Still another former air
force couple returned for
a visit to Clinton during
the past week. Mr. and
Mrs. Baden O'Donnell
from Carrots Crossing,
New Brunswick were
stationed here from 1951-
1955. As a matter of fact
they met here in Clinton
and were married in
Meaford, Ontario on June
20, 1953. Mrs. O'Donnell
was a member of the
RCAF (WD) serving here
when she met her future
husband.

Mr. and Mrs. John
Keith of Mount Forest,
celebrated their 61st
wedding anniversary on
June 18, 1978 at the home
of their daughter and son-
in-law Mr. and Mrs.
Norman McDougall and
family.

Visiting at the home of
her parents, Isabel and
Len Theedom, Rat-
tenbury Street West, -
were her daughter, Sheila
Southin with husband,
Roger and children,
Nancy and Brian.
Journeying from their
home in St. John's
Newfoundland, the
Southins stopped in at
Clinton then continued on
to the West Coast,
returning for a second
visit here before the
home journey to St.
John's. Roger Southin
has just been named to
the command of the
newest ship of Canada's
Coast Guard - so new it
has as yet not been
named.

Mr, and Mrs. C. Barron
(Charlie and Frances) of
Portsoy, Scotland, have
been visiting , with the
latter's brotheVand his
wife, George and
Madelon Yeats, James
Street. The Scottish
visitors arrived June 9
and will return June 29,
While here the Barrons
celebrated their 25th
wedding anniversary and
the Yeats their 35th.
Despite the near heat
• wave of some of the days -
Madelon and George
were able to take their
guests on trips to Sudbury
via Manitoulin Island, to
Windsor and to Niagara
Falls.

Of interest and concern
to many residents of
Clinton will be the news of
the sudden passing on
June 19, 1978 in Kelowna,
B.C. of Mrs. Robert
McKee, the former Agnes
Combe. Her husband
Robert McKee was a
former squadron leader
at the Clinton Air Station.
She leaves one sister,
Mrs. F. W. Troupe of
Ottawa. Many will

Time to serve fresh summer
vegetables and enjoy the flavor
At this time of year, it's
a pleasure to look for
Ontario's summer
vegetables and to serve
them often.
Because they are
grown in Ontario and are
close to the markets, the
vegetables are allowed to
ripen in the field, giving
them better flavor. Once
picked, they can he
transported quickly to
retail outlets where they
arrive fresh and full of

Food specialists at the
Ontario Food Council,
ministry of agriculture
and food, point out that
fresh Ontario Ontario
vegetables require little
preparation and cooking.
Cooked until just crisp
tender, their fresh flavor
can be enjoyed • to the
fullest.
Now is a good time to
enjoy many of the fresh
vegetables raw in salads.
Salads are easy work for
the cook and refreshing
additions to any meal
during the hot weather.
Vegetables, served raw,
add great crunch, bright
color and superb flavor to
summer eating.
Perhaps your're a
barbecuing enthusiast.
The flavor of barbecued
meat is delicious. So is
the flavor of barbecued
vegetables. Simply add a
touch of butter and a
couple of favorite
seasonings to individual
'servings of vegetables,
wrap in heavy aluminum
foil and close the package
tightly. Vegetables that
take long to cook
(carrots, potatoes or
onions) should he cut into
small 'pieces. Other
vegetables (peas,
mushrooms and beans)
can he left whole. Grill 3
to 4 inches from the coals.
Count on about 15 to 20
minutes for most
vegetables. Vegetables
like carrots, potatoes and
onions may take up to an
hour if they are not
sliced.
Whatever way you
prepare and serve
Ontario summer
vegetables, enjoy their
crisp, fresh flavors.
