Maybe this column is easier to digest less the frills. + + + Still another former air force couple returned for a visit to Clinton during the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Baden O'Donnell from Carrots Crossing, New Brunswick were stationed here from 1951- 1955. As a matter of fact they met here in Clinton and were married in Meaford, Ontario on June 20, 1953. Mrs. O'Donnell was a member of the RCAF (WD) serving here when she met her future husband. + ++ Mr. and Mrs. John Keith of Mount Forest, celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on June 18, 1978 at the home of their daughter and son- in-law Mr. and Mrs. Norman McDougall and family. + ++ Visiting at the home of her parents, Isabel and Len Theedom, Rat- tenbury Street West, - were her daughter, Sheila Southin with husband, Roger and children, Nancy and Brian. Journeying from their home in St. John's Newfoundland, the Southins stopped in at Clinton then continued on to the West Coast, returning for a second visit here before the home journey to St. John's. Roger Southin has just been named to the command of the newest ship of Canada's Coast Guard - so new it has as yet not been named. +++ Mr, and Mrs. C. Barron (Charlie and Frances) of Portsoy, Scotland, have been visiting , with the latter's brotheVand his wife, George and Madelon Yeats, James Street. The Scottish visitors arrived June 9 and will return June 29, While here the Barrons celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary and the Yeats their 35th. Despite the near heat • wave of some of the days - Madelon and George were able to take their guests on trips to Sudbury via Manitoulin Island, to Windsor and to Niagara Falls. +++ Of interest and concern to many residents of Clinton will be the news of the sudden passing on June 19, 1978 in Kelowna, B.C. of Mrs. Robert McKee, the former Agnes Combe. Her husband Robert McKee was a former squadron leader at the Clinton Air Station. She leaves one sister, Mrs. F. W. Troupe of Ottawa. One of them, David Pullen, eleven - year -old son of Don and Florence Pullen of RR4 Clinton recently placed third in the Junior Essay Contest for all Ontario. The honour was an- nounced at the 72nd annual Ontario Hor- ticultural Convention held recently at Queen's University, Kingston, .Ont. Members of the Clinton Horticultural Society attending were Mrs. Marian McCann, Mrs. Marian Powell, Miss Margaret Sloman, and Mrs. Dorothy Williams. + ++ Remember Potpourri - Clinton's craft show and exhibits? Also perhaps you remember the green and white checked tablecloths which graced the cafeteria tables in the Community Centre - and the long aprons with mob caps - also short aprons. These aprons and tablecloths handmade by former Clintonian, Rita Ryan, now of Kitchener • are available on loan to anyone wishing to use them for teas, showers, theatricals, etc. The only stipulation is that they be returned laundered and in good condition. Mrs. Ina Fisher has the cloths and aprons and would be happy to talk to anyone interested in taking them on loan. She can he reached at 482-7809. + + + The Knights of Columbus held i,ts last monthly draw, for the summer months. Winner of the draw was Mrs. M. Denomme, Detroit. Seller of the winning ticket was John Flanagan of Sea forth Many thanks to all people who bought tickets throughout the past year. Our profits go towards support of the Arthritis Society and our local Pro - Life Movement. These two causes are con- sidered paramount by our organization and the Knights in your area look forward to your con- tinued, support. Our summer works program consists partly of the sale of 500 tickets for a one thousand dollar hill at $5 each. The second prize is $200 and the third $100. An area family gathered last week for a five generation picture. Seated is Mrs. Robert McAllister of Goderich and to her right is her daughter Mrs. Carl Sowerby of Goderich. (News -Record photo) Holmesville news by Blanche Deeves Holmesville and Wesley -Willis churches held their worship ser- vice on Sunday at Menesetung Park with an outdoor church service. After the service, sports were held for young and old, as ,well as, ball games, and swim- ming. A bountiful picnic dinner was enjoyed by 200 people, with the choir from Wesley -Willis Church singing and Cathy Potter playing her ac- cordian, Rev. John Oestreicher in charge of the service. A farewell dinner was held recently at the Little Inn, Bayfield for Mr. and Mrs. Stan Vander Wal and family. Neighbours present were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Yeo, Bud Yeo, Mr. and Mrs. John Vander Wal, Mr. and Mrs. Mel Vander Wal, Mr. and Mrs. Sid Kaastra and Mr. and Mrs. John Van Wyk. A social hour was enjoyed later at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Yeo. We wish the Vander Wal family Gods blessing on their summer vacation and at their new farm near Varna. Cooked until just crisp tender, their fresh flavor can be enjoyed • to the fullest. Now is a good time to enjoy many of the fresh vegetables raw in salads. Salads are easy work for the cook and refreshing additions to any meal during the hot weather. Vegetables, served raw, add great crunch, bright color and superb flavor to summer eating. Perhaps your're a barbecuing enthusiast. The flavor of barbecued meat is delicious. So is the flavor of barbecued vegetables. Simply add a touch of butter and a couple of favorite seasonings to individual 'servings of vegetables, wrap in heavy aluminum foil and close the package tightly. Vegetables that take long to cook (carrots, potatoes or onions) should he cut into small 'pieces. Other vegetables (peas, mushrooms and beans) can he left whole. Grill 3 to 4 inches from the coals. Count on about 15 to 20 minutes for most vegetables. Vegetables like carrots, potatoes and onions may take up to an hour if they are not sliced. Whatever way you prepare and serve Ontario summer vegetables, enjoy their crisp, fresh flavors. Clinton police report A single vehicle ac- cident caused $1,500 in damages in Clinton last Saturday when a van driven by Susil Weerasooriya, 21, of Bennett St., Goderich struck a cement pole. Weerasooriya and his three passengers were uninjured after the van left Huron Street and struck the PUC hydro pole. Damage to the pole was $1,000 while damages of $500 were received to the front bumper, hood and windshield of the van. Tr' 1 ,ct wool<'c Clinton Police report, an accident involving two cars driven by Beverly Learn, Hensall and Rose Lawson, Clinton was i-ncorrectly reported. The Lawson vehicle was southbound on Victoria Street when theAft Learn vehicle collided wiLh the rear of the first car. Damage to each car was set at $200.
