New Guides, Brownies enrolled
On Wednesday, June 7,
the Vanastra Brownies
and Guides held a father
and daughter barbecue in
conjunction with an
enrollment ceremony.
Before the barbecue
began, Mrs. Velma
Lewis, Brown Owl,
enrolled three Brownies,
Kerri Dunsmore, Jen-
nifer Hidgins, and
Pamela Brownridge.
Mrs. Diane Ryan, who
will be Brown Owl next
year, assisted with the
ceremony.
Three guides were also
enrolled by the Captain
Mrs. Thomas. These girls
were Darlene Smith,
Lynne McFadden and
Karen Gonie. Some of the
Guides received badges
that they had earned
these past two months.
Tina Jeffrey and Penny
Lewis, on behalf of the
Guides and Brownies,
presented a gift to
Reverend Boersma to
show their appreciation
for everything that he
had done for them these
past years. With the
conclusion of the
ceremonies, Alex Jeffrey
consented to cook hot
dogs for everyone. It is
hoped that the barbecue
will be an annual event.

backyard camper • and
cooks badge. On Friday
evening the girls set up
the camp and then
conducted a campfire
and wiener roast.
Saturday found them
going on a hike into the
bush where they spent the
day. While there, the girls
learned how to build a
fire and cook their dinner
wrapped in foil. They also
learned hoW to square
lash, handle a knife and
axe properly, and they
followed a trail through
the bush. Many of the
girls collected objects of
interest such as bloodroot
and fungi to take back
home. At approximately
three o'clock the girls
returned to camp where
after a short rest they
prepared supper. After
supper theirls did some
crafts and ended the

After lunch they struck
camp and • when
everything was packed

Seventeen members
and one visitor met at the
home of Roba Lobb on
June 7 for a "potluck"
lunch. President Milena
Lobb opened the meeting
with a poem "Life on My
Farm" followed by the
creed and the Lord',
Prayer. Roll call was
answered with "A
memory of helping Dad
on the Farm."
Roba Lobb read the
minutes of the May
meeting and Norene
Tebbutt gave the
treasurer's report. The
`social committee will
hold a meeting to make
arangements for the
annual picnic.
The September
meeting will be held at
Milena Lobb's home.
Several' of the ladies then
went to Goderich and
toured the Huron County
Museum. For many it
was the first time they
had been to the Museum
and needless to say it was
a very worthwhile trip.
