of Clinton passed away at the
Clinton Public Hospital on
Thursday, June 8, 1978, in his
94th year. Surviving are one
son Gordon of Clinton, two
daughters, of Clinton, two
daughters, (Phylis) Mrs.
Robin Thompson, (Helen)
Mrs. Art Aiken, both of
Clinton. Also surviving are
two sisters, (Neil) Mrs. Theo
Fremlin and (Gladys) Mrs.
Carl Draper, both of
Huronview Home, Clinton,
and ten grandchildren. The
late Mr. Herman rested at
the Ball Funeral Home, 153
High Street, Clinton, where
the funeral service was held
on Saturday, June 10 at 2
p.m. Interment in the Clinton
Cemetery. —24nc

Doreen Carter, captain
of the Flowers of Hope
campaign for Londesboro
and the surrounding
district wishes to thank
all those who helped in
the first canvass attempt
in the area.
The response was most
gratifying and $725 was
sent to the South Huron
Association for the
Mentally Retarded.
From this amount, the
local organization con-
tributed $130; Lon-
desboro gave $172.50 and
$422.50 was donated by
the surrounding com-
munity.
UCW meet
The UCW general
meeting was held on June
5 in the Londesboro
church hall with 37 guests
present from the Burns
UCW and the Explorers.
President Helen
Lawson opened the
meeting with a reading,
and a hymn followed,
with Gail Lear at the
piano. The scripture was
read by Margaret Whyte
and meditation was given
by Mrs. Lawson.
The president thanked
all who helped at the ham
supper and the
treasurer's report
showed a profit of $996.35
on the supper.
It was decided by the
group of ladies to give
$1,500 to the board of
stewards for the manse
renovations and repairs.
Correspondence
consisted of a thank -you
note from Don and Cathy
Reuger and from Doreen
Carter for ARC
Industries for the Men-
tally Retarded. It was
noted that the Alma
College School is to be
held on August 20 to 23.
Registration fees of $25
are to be submitted by
July 15.
It was moved to donate
$25 to the church and
society secretary• for
coffee at the plowing
match.
Laura Lyon reported on
quilt topsr,, and it was
decided to send them to
Heather Gardens in
Clinton. The Carter
sisters then gaVe 'piano
solos with Barbara and
Judy on guitars and a
vocal solo with Barbara
at the piano.
Margaret Anderson
introduced Dixie
Cameron of Lucknow who
spent January 7 to May
15, 1977 on a 4-H Junior
Farmers exchange in
New Zealand and
Australia.
She was thanked by
Mrs. Lawson and the
ladies then decided to
hold their next general
meeting on September 4.

Vacation school
Final plans were made
for the annual vacation
school on Tuesday
evening when the
superintendents of all
departments met.
Vacation school is to be
held from July 3 to July 7.

ding anniversary for Mr.
and Mrs. Stewart Ament
in the Blyth District

A recital for Gail

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lee
spent the weekend in
Toronto with their
daughter Beverly Gall.

returned to their home
where the couple was
presented with gifts and
enjoyed a social evening.

Happenings from Hullett
Theatre group visits
On Monday, .May 29, a
theatre group from
Petrolia presented two
performances for the
students of Hullett,
Brookside, Blyth, and
Walton.
Walton and Hullett
attended the morning
performance called
"Earth Song," while
Blyth and Brookside
attended the afternoon
performance called
"Voyageurs".
The performers had the
audience participate in
each act. The students
thoroughly enjoyed the
acts.
Play day
On Tuesday, June 6,
Hullett held their annual
play day. The students
from grades kin-
dergarten t� grade 7 were
divided into 20 teams.
There were ten events
which the grade 8 class
looked after. The grade 7
class was chosen to be
captains. Overall, Team
14, led by Keith Hallam,
and Team 20, led by
Diana Shobbrook tied, so
they played a cham-
pionship event. Team 20
was defeated and Team
14 won the event.
The play day proved to
be very enjoyable and
worthwhile.
Track meet
On Tuesday, June 6,
pupils from Hullett and
other schools in Huron
County participated in
the annual track meet at
Seaforth High School.
The following are
people from Hullett who
received first in their
event: Susan Gross,
Darlene Gulutzen, Julie
Doer, and Cheryl
Bromley won the midget
girls relay; Darlene
Hunking won the 100
metre and Annette
Losereit won running
long jump in the Inter-
mediate girls category.
In the Senior boys
category, David
Plunkett, Jerry
Hoggarth, Neil Cart-
wright and Bruce
Hunking wdn, the relay.
David Plant placed first
in the shot putt and Lance
Livingston placed first
for discus.
In the Senior girls
relay, Helen Kolkman,
Lana Lockwood, Carrie
Crawford and Tammy
Simpson placed first.
Overall, Hullett placed
third.
Everyone who attended
the meet participated
well and enjoyed com-
peting.
Businessmen plan events
The Clinton Business
Association discussed
upcoming promotions
when they met last
Monday night.
Although only seven
local merchants at-
tended, the rest of the
business community was
to be polled this eek to
see if a new promotion
could be held in July. A
special meeting on the
new promotion will be
held this coming
Tuesday, June 20 at the
Clinton Town Hall at 8
p.m.
The Association also
set up another, committee
to look after the Sidewalk
Sale Days, to be held this
year on August 3, 4 and 5.
More merchants will be
asked to participate this
year.
Because Saturday July
1 is a legal holiday, the
A•ociation decided to
close that day, instead of
Friday or Monday.
The Association will
also look into buying
more tree planter boxes'
for the main streets in the
core area, particularly
Ontario and Huron
Streets.
