The groom is the son of Wellington and Mary Ellen Johnston of Varna and the bride is a daughter of David and Eva Stephenson of Goshen Line, Stanley Township. Mrs. Margaret Dowson was bridesmaid and Elmore Stephenson groomsman, and Eleanor Dryden played the wedding March for their wedding 50 years ago. They were married by Rev. Penrose of Varna. Four children were born by this union: Phyllis of the Bronson Line, Stanley Township; Robert of Mississauga; and two sons deceased. For this golden wed- ding occasion, Mrs. Johnston wore a floor - length gown of jade sheer, accentuated with an orchid corsage. Guests were greeted at the door by Phyllis and Robert. Grandson Robbie looked after the guest book. The tea table looked attractive with a gold lace tablecloth with a centerpiece of roses and mums, flanked by 50th anniversary candles. Canon guest at church .Canon F. H. Paull, was guest preacher in Trinity Anglican Church Sunday morning. He spoke of the preachings of Barnabas and Saul, two disciples of Christ Canon Paull also read the Lesson for the Third Sunday in Trinity. Rector, Rev. William M. Bennett celebrated Holy Communion, assisted by Canon Paull and Server Andrew Erickson. Members of Huron Church Camp Training Staff, Jane Buchner and Sylvia Haydon, both playing guitars, and Mike Thompson directors of Huron Church Camp taught the Church congregation a new hymn entitled "Let us Break Bread Together". The three were assisted by several members of H.C.C. who sang to a capacity congregation. During the receiving of the elements, the young people, along with the congregation quietly sang the newly learned hymn together while kneeling. Jeanne Bennett and Dawn Merner taught Sunday School and Harry Baker and Philip du Boulay acted as sidesmen. The congregation ,signed a card to be sent to Rev. James Reddoch of St. Andrew's United Church, who will be retiring in the near future. An invitation to a Garden Party at Cam - borne House, hosted by Canon Paull on the af- ternoon of June 25 from 3 to 5 p.m. was extended. Sunday next the representatives who attended the 53rd weekend will give their impressions of the annual Christian Resource Workshop at Huron College. Baptist church news By Janet Talbot Sunday Services at the Bayfield Baptist Church were led by the Pastor, Rev. Les Shiel, with the Sunday School in charge of the superintendent, Doyle Cullen. Mrs. Les Shiel showed some slides of their stay in Peru, where they were stationed and as it was Missionary Sunday seS'eral special songs were sung, and it was a pleasure to have the attendance up. The special speaker for both worship services was Rev. E. Brubacher of the Gospel Text Publishers from Egan- ville, Ontario.. He showed slides of the Gospel Sign Mission work that has been done throughout French speaking Quebec. Some up -coming events include ----The Women's Missionary Fellowship will hold their annual picnic on Tuesday evening, June 20th, at the home of Janet Talbot. The women of the Church are invited to join the Bethel Church women in Egmondville for their Missionary meeting Thursday evening, June 22nd. On Tuesday June 27th at 8 pm, a singing group from the Sarnia Baptist Church will be bringing their program to the Bayfield Baptist Church. Everyone is invited to come and listen Anna McConnell, Pearl Elliott, sisters of the bride and Rachel Johnston, sister of the groom, poured tea. Margaret Dowson at- tended the gift table. Daughter-in-law Elizabeth and grand- daughter Linda, Barbara and Cathy Merner served the guests. Other helpers were Jeanne Lindsay, Fern Baker, Ruth Makins, Mabel Reid, Margaret Stephenson and Eleanor Dryden. The couple received many cards, gifts and good wishes. Congratulatory messages were received from Prime Minister Trudeau, Opposition Leader Joe Clark; Premier of Ontario William Davis; Governor General and Madame Leger, Our House of Commons member Robert McKinley, Huron and Middlesex member Jack Riddell. A telephone message was received from Pilot Mound, Manitoba and a telegram from Regina, Sask. Saturday night previous, a dinner was held in St. Andrews United Church parlor, when 45 guests sat down to a delicious meal. Their son, Robert, was master of ceremonies; Cliff Talbot, London, gave the invocation. Donald Campbell proposed the toast to the bride and groom of 50 years, to which suitable replies were made. Several interesting speeches were then given. All enjoyed a happy social evening. Best wishes are ex- tended to Perce and Clara for continued health and happiness. bugle Lioness end meetings, but busy summer set The last general dinner meeting of Bayfield Lioness Club of this season with president Ilse Gemeinhardt presiding was held Monday, June 5. June 24th is the annual Old Homestead bake sale; July 28 is the Lions Frolic date and August 1st there will be a Fashion Show at the old Town Hall. It will be a dessert and punch affair at 2 p.m. Tickets will be on sale during July at $2 each. The Booster,Buttons have sold very well and will be available at all summer functions. Quilt tickets are moving along too and the winner will be drawn at the Penny Sale. A thank -you gift was presented to caterer, Mrs. Miller. Lioness Sue May will be moving to Calgary, Alberta where her husband, Dan will be teaching in the late summer. The Club presented her with a framed picture of the Charter members. Last executive meeting to be held June 20 at the home of Lioness Jan Simons. Choir entertains at church Thirty-nine members of Kingsway Lampton Junior Choir arrived by bus Saturday afternoon from Toronto. They practiced under the leadership of Mrs. Jean Ashworth, with Molly Cox playing the piano and organ. After supper at the Church, supplied by the Unit 1 Ladies, the children were taken on a wagon ride around town by Tom Penhale's team of horses, driven by Tom with the help of Bill Parker. The children were then taken past the various homes where they were to stay for the Round about the village Master Corporal Darrel Byron of Lahr, Germany, spent the weekend with his wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Boyce.,Also visiting with them or the weekend was Miss Bonnie Johnston of London and Mr. and Mrs. Danny Johnston and Christopher of Sarnia. Ray and June Hasselfeldt of Richmond Hill, were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Bullen and family. Miss Dorothy Ryerson, Salt Lake City, Utah, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Burrell of London spent Tuesday with long-time friends Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Higgins at their home "The Maples". John Garrett visited for the weekend with Lennie Healy at Egmondville. Congratulations to Dennis and Brenda (Makins) Miskie of Goderich who are the parents of a baby girl born Saturday,. June 9 in London's Victoria Hospital. The baby is the first grandchild for Arnold and Ruth Makins and first great- grandchild for Lloyd and Esther Makins all of Bayfield. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cluff, Rob and Tara, London spent the weekend at their home in Bayfield. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Diemert visited Friday in St. Mary's with their family, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Diemert, Brian and Karen. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Meyer, Michelle and Marsha, Milverton, visited for the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Lena Ervine. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lowry, Windsor, had as their weekend guests at their home here, his aunt, Miss May E :vine of Goderich. Thursday, June 15 (today) at 8 p.m. a joint meeting of St. Andrew's U.C.W. will be held in the church basement. Final plans for the annual chicken barbecue set for July 1st will be made. Saturday, June 17, the 3 M's group is planning a social evening of fellowship for the congregation of St. Andrew's. It will be held in the church basement at 8 p.m. As a special treat, Lloyd Stephens will be showing pictures of his recent trip to Russia. All members and their families are invited to attend. Swimming lessons are being sponsored again by the Bayfield Lions Club at the Vanastra swimming pool from July 3 to 14. Sunday morning, St. Andrew's Church was filled to capacity and what a beautiful sight to see when the 39 dedicated young people went up the aisle singing the processional hymn "Praise My Soul the King of Heaven". The entire service was taken by the choir with two of the girls reading the responsive Psalm and the scripture. Also assisting was Bill Milne and Rev. Reddoch had a very fitting meditation message, about how music had always been an important part of worship which gave each one there from the youngest to the oldest, something to remember from the special day. After • church, the youngsters, their leaders and , some mothers boarded the bus for the home of Bill and Jean Milne where lunch was provided by the ladies of the church and an af- ternoon of fun was en- joyed before returning to Toronto. Everyone was very impressed at how well the young people fitted in with the family they stayed with and were said to be a real joy to have in please call Marilyn Haw at 565-2716 or Kathleen Siertsema at 565-2479. The Lions Youth Exchange this year are sending two youths to Bayfield Lions families. A boy from Jamaica will spend four weeks at the home of John and Kathleen Siertsema from July 15 to Aug. 12, and Paul and Norma Gosse will have a girl from Italy with them. Two girls from Bayfield will be going to Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Parker, Dorchester spent Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Parker. Mrs. Milton Wiltse, Huronview and Lorne and Viola Lawson, Seaforth were dinner guests with Ross and . Mildred Merrill after attending the special music service in the United Church here.
