(News -Record photo) News from Huronview Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Dave Elliott who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a family gathering in Goderich on May 27. The family of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Regier had a reunion in the auditorium at Huronview Sunday in recognition of their parents' 60th wedding anniversary. The residents of Huronview 'enjoyed the annual visit of the Brussels United Church Women on Monday af- ternoon. The Reverend Eric LeDrew was chairman of the musical program with a sing -a- long led by a quartette including Sarah Stephenson, Betty Campbell, Joyce Jacklin, and Barbara McCut- cheon. accompanied at the piano by Mary Bryans. "The Steppers" entertained with a square dance and they included Alma Watson, Gertie Kellington, Betty Campbell, Nora Stephenson, Dotlelda Pearson, Betty McCut- cheon, Fran Brenner and Barbara McCutcheon. Mrs. .Sarah Stephenson gave a reading and Lori Patterson tap-danced. Mrs. McCarter thanked the Brussels ladies for the entertainment and the treats on behalf of the Huronview residents. Senior Citizens' Week is being recognized this year from June 18 to 24 and the special event at Huronview this year is a chicken barbecue on June 22 at noon, which is open to all Senior Citizens in the county. Earl and Martha Heywood of CKNX, Wingham will be entertaining in the af- ternoon. If you are planning to come to the barbecue, please let Huronview staff know before June 15. Although Thursday will be a special day at Huronview during Senior Citizens' Week, those at the home would be happy to have visitors at the Church Service on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.; the Old Tyme music on Monday at 2 p.m.; the Family Night on Tuesday at 7 p.m.; the games on Wednesday at 2 p.m.; and bingo on Friday at 2 p.m. Clintonian club plans picnic The Clintonian Senior Citizen meeting was held on June 1 in the Town Hall with 15 present, when the president Pearl Cum- mings opened the meeting with a poem "What's Happiness". The secretary gave the minutes and the treasurer, Viola Lam- pman gave her report. Irene Glazier gave the flower and card report, saying two members are in the hospital; Mrs. Mote, and Mrs. Nivans. Hope they are soon out and around! 53 hospital calls and 70 home calls Colborne man dies H. BRUCE GRIGG H. Bruce Grigg of Colborne Township died suddenly at his residence on Saturday, June 3 at the age of 76. He was born in Goderich Township on November 18, 1901 to Reuben and Reatha (Stevens) Grigg. The late Mr. Grigg worked as a farmer. He was a member of Victoria Street United Church. He is survived by his wife, the' former Laura Mugford; one daughter, Joan of Goderich ; three sons, Kenneth, Allan and Ted, all of London; two sisters, Mrs. Elmer (Mary) Trick of Clinton and Mrs. Kenneth (Bernice) Cooke, also of Clinton, three brothers, Edward and William of Clinton and Chester of Peterborough; and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by one sister, Ila and two brothers, John and Gladstone. A funeral service was held on Monday, June 5 at 2 p.m. at McCallum Funeral Home for the late Mr. Grigg, The Reverend John D. M. Wood officiated. Interment was in Colborne Cemetery, Colborne Township. Pallbearers were Allan Grigg, Ted Grigg, Edward Grigg, William Grigg, Elmer Trick and Kenneth Cooke. Flower bearers were Terry Grigg, Todd Grigg, Jeff Grigg and Brian Grigg. MORE NEWS MORE FEATURES Keep informed with the News -Record REGULAR TOWN COUNCIL MEETING Monday, June 12, 1978 were made most of them at Huronview. Final arrangements were made for the picnic at Goderich on June 20 and members are to meet at the Wesley -Willis Church where they will be picked up by ones with cars. Each one is to pay Viola Lampman $1. for transportation to be divided among the car drivers. Each is buying Kentucky Fried Chicken and each person is to bring dessert, tea or coffee, and cards. It was decided that there would be no meeting in July and August. Pearl looked after the Dutch auction with everyone winning an article. Gladys Hoggarth won the mystery prize. The program consisted of a reading by Pearl Cummings and telling her experience in Lon- don, a day in the hospital. / • fI. 70th year St. On Sunday, May 28 the parish of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Clinton gathered to celebrate the 70th bir- thday of the laying of the cornerstone for the church. Last Sunday the First Solemn Communion was held with Father Joseph Hardy, pastor in charge. S5' Joe's celebrate anniversary The Sacrament of Confirmation was given by His Excellency, Bishop Eugene LaRocque of Alexandria, Cornwall to candidates on Monday. The Fourth Degree Knights from the DJ Eagan Assembly of Seaforth were present as a guard of honor for the Bishop. Also in attendance were: Father Stanley McQuire, a former pastor at St. Joe's and now rector of St. Peter's' Cathedral Basilica, London ; Father Anthony Sanderup, Wingham, Dean of Stratford; Father Edward Det- tinger, Kingsbridge and Father L. G. Couglin, St. Local girl married Cooper-Toonk Wesley -Willis United Church in Clinton was the setting for the April 29th evening wedding of Margaret (Peggy) Louise Cooper and Gerald Albert Toonk. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Cooper of Clinton and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Toonk of Palmerston. Rev. John Oestreicher officiated at the double ring ceremony. Cathy Potter of Clinton was the organist and ac- companied the 'soloist, Mr. Martin Luesink also for a duet sung by Mr. and Mrs. Martin Luesink of Clinton. The maid of honor was Rose Flynn of Clinton wearing a pale blue polyester crimpolene gown trimmed with pale blue lace. Little Carrie May Cooper, niece of the bride, was the flowergirl and she wore the same blue colored gown as the maid of honor. The bridesmaids, Miss Barb Young of Blyth and Pat Cook of Clinton wore floor length gowns of pale yellow polyester crim- polene trimmed with pale yellow flowered lace.The bride's attendants all wore floppy hats. Master Jason Cooper, nephew of the bride was the ring bearer. Groomsman _was Albert Toonk of Palmerston, brother of the groom and ushers were Jamie Cooper of Clinton, brother of the bride and Robert Schyff of Listowel, a friend of the groom. Guests were received in the fellowship hall of the church by the bridal party and parents of the bride and groom. The bride's mother chose a floor length gown of a beige background polyester crimpolene with a turquoise floral pattern and wore a corsage of yellow mums. The groom's mother wore a long gown pf black silk material with multi- colored flowers and a corsage of yellow mums. Following the wedding service a reception and dance was held at the Clinton Legion Hall. For a wedding trip to Niagara Falls and Toronto the bride chose an orange jumpsuit and matching purse and a corsage of orange, yellow and white mums completed her outfit. After' their wed- ding trip the young couple will reside in Listowel. Prior to her wedding the women of the Reformed Church in Harriston gave the bride- to-be a beautiful shower; also the bride's at- tendants, Pat Cook, Barb Young and Rose Flynn gave a shower for Peggy at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Cook of Clinton. The little boy tugged on his mother's sleeve in church and ' asked, "What's the lady next to me singing?" "Alto,'' hastily whispered his mother. Last Wednesday evening members of the parish met on the church lawn for an outdoor mass said by Father Hardy and assisted by former pastor Father Kelly. As well a pork barbecue and a pot luck supper was held in the church with 200 at- tending. Among those were also Father J. W. P. Graham, Port Dover, a former pastor and Father Sanderup. The barbecue was arranged and undertaken by the parish council and to add to the festivities the Bradley Family entertained for a social and a dance. The Bradleys also belong to the parish. A display was set up giving the history of the parish and it was learned that some 2,000 people attended the laying of the cornerstone 70 years ago. The parish itself began in I ` 1898 in Mullett Township with the influx of the early )4�rish immigrants.
