(News -Record photo) This week at the Legion By Rene Brochu Two major events took place in the Legion this week and both were successfully organized and supervised by our Legion comrades. The installation of officers and executives of our Legion ladies and men was one of these events. This is one of the most important events in the Legion's Year, as to these persons goes the responsibility of managing the affairs of the Legion for the year to come. The installation team was from the Blyth Legion and we wish to thank Comrade Deputy Zone Commander Bill Riehl and his Blyth group for a job well done. Filling the positions this year for the Ladies Auxiliary are: past president, Gladys Chambers; president Annie Sallows; first vice- president, Dorothy O'Connell (the vy}leel chair gal); second vice- president, Joan MacLaren; secretary, Grace Castle; treasurer, Phyllis Mountford; sgt- at-arms, Sheilla McKay. While carrying out the installation, Deputy Zone Commander Bill Riehl commented on the suc- cessful year we had enjoyed under the two presidents. The Ladies have beeri especially successful as they presented the men with a cheque for $2000 a welcomed assist I'm sure, due largely to the devoted service given by the ladies in providing excellence in catering service. President-elect John Semple presented the past president's medal to John Deeves .and the treasurer's medal to retiring treasurer Cliff Parker. The evening was concluded with a .dance, thanks to Harold Black and his Trio. A roast beef lunch a la Brochu was enjoyed by all at the conclusion of the evening. A special thanks to the Schriebers and Eric Switzer who helped so much in making the evening a success. The second major function which took place at the Legion this week was the annual Spring Legion Golf Tournament. Last Sunday was the date for this event which this year was won by Derick Devok. Mr. and Mrs. William Black, Goderich are moving to Brucefield this weekend. They have purchased the residence and business of the Duttons Miss Jo-ann Layton, Bayfield is visiting with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Eliott Layton. Mr. and Mrs. William Pepper spent a few days with friends in Bracebridge: Mr. and Mrs. Gordon best of the Legion golfers. The day was organized by five of our trustworthy comrades, Len Arnston, Harold Black, Bob Draper, Pat McMahon, and Harold McPherson. It was early for some with tee -off. times star- ting at 7:30 a.m. It turned out to be a blistering hot day ,and the foursomes were relieved as they entered the coolness of our air conditioned premises. Merchants of our town were again generous in the prizes they donated to this annual event.
