PAGE 2--CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, THURSDAY, JUNE 1, 1978 What's happening around Constance Well, it pays to have to admit I was scraping the bottom of the barrel - thank you to those of you who responded with news items for the column - and for any of you who have something to con- tribute, remember there's always a next week and a next, etc. +++ Clinton lost a popular couple last weekend with the move to Gravenhurst of Marian and Ed Willson. Since coming to Clinton in 1966 from Toronto, they have become well-known in our town. The members of Marian's former bridge club gave her a send-off luncheon at the Benmiller Inn, and a return to Lina Cochrane's home for the afternoon. Also, last Thursday, • she was honored by Florence Corrie and Helen Davies who entertained many of her friends at a coffee party. The guest of honour was presented with a lovely brass candle holder. All good wishes to Marian and Ed in their new home. +++ Saturday, May 27 was a special day for the nurses who graduated from Guelph General Hospital. It was the Annual Alumnae Banquet, held at the Cutten Club, College Avenue, Guelph. Several grads from this district attended - Joan Hibbert, Hazel Thom- pson, Jean Scott from Goderich and Jean Livermore from Clinton. There were 265 members present. One of the oldest nurses at- tending was a graduate of the 1912 class. Several were in.the class of 1928 (50 year grads). It was the 40th anniversary for Jean Livermore. Six of her classmates (class 1938) were there from Palmerston, Walkerton, Chatham, Pembroke, Guelph. Mrs. Margaret McKinnon, an alderman of Guelph City Council, addressed the graduates. It was a most enjoyable reunion. +++ Mrs. Elsie Sullivan of Port Huron spent the past four days with her sister- in-law, Mrs. Mae McLeod, Frederick Street. Specifically, it mentioned the unusual alignment of Venus and Jupiter. These two planets, easily observed by facing west when darkness falls, are un- mistakably bright just n -ow. Your writer is pretty dull on astronomy - picking out the "Big Dipper" is about my full potential - but I was surprised to find that I could line up these two bright planets without much trouble. + ++ Another honour for our district has come to Mr. and Mrs. Norman Baird, Brucefield.
