HomeMy WebLinkAboutClinton News-Record, 1978-05-11, Page 7" photo by Frank Phillips Mr. and Mrs. Richard Snell Couple to live in London White and yellow daisies and gladioli filled the Brucefield United Church on Saturday, May 6 for the spring wedding of Faye Ruth Wantelon and Richard illiam Snell. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Can- telon of RR 4, Seaforth and the'groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R.J: Snell of RR 1, Londesboro. Rev. Stephens was in charge of the contemporary ceremony which featured Mrs. Barbara Livermore at the organ and soloists Barb Bosman and Bonnie Jewitt. The bride, who was led up the aisle by her father, was dressed in a long white gersey gown with a train flowing frgm the back yoke. The gown featured a high neckline and to complete her outfit- the bride carried a bouquet of pink carnations, white daisies, pink rosebuds and stephanotis. Maid of honour was Pat Harris and bridesmaids were •Jo -Anne Cantelon of Waterloo, Esther Cantelon of Seaforth, Betty Jewitt of Woodstock, Jo -Ann Harland of Lorklon and Sandra Hunt of RR 4, Walton. The at- tendants, dressed in gowns of aqua coloured jersey with " floral capes, all carried bouquets of yellow and white daisies. The groomsman was Rob. • Snell of Goderich and ushers were Bill Cantelon, Waterloo; Wayne Cantelon, RR 4, Seaforth; Bev Jewitt, Woodstock; Jim Riddell, London ; and Mark Cantelon, RR 4, Seaforth. Following the ceremony the bridal party and their guests attended a reception at the Pineridge Chalet in Hensall. The bride's mother wore a floor -length cream coloured knitted dress with a corsage of pink roses. The groom's mother chose a long blue gown, complimented by a corsage of yellow roses. Guests travelling from a distance for the wedding arrived from Toronto, Chatham and London. For travelling, the bride changed into a light blue jersey dress with a pleated skirt and beige coat. She also wore a corsage of red rases. The couple will be residing in London where the bride is employed by Canadian Acceptance and the groom is studying law at Western University. Prior to the wedding, the bride was feted at a number of showers held by: Mrs. Edna Cantelon, Clinton; Mrs. Shirley Hill, Varna; the Brucefield United Church; the Tuckersmith Ladies Club; Pat Harris London; Barbara Bosman, Lori- desboro. News of Middleton By Blanch Deeves Church news Holy Communion was celebrated in St. James Church, Middleton Sunday at 11:15 a.m. with the lesson being read by John Deeves. The offering was received by Ray Wise and Edward Deeves. Presentation of gifts for World Hunger Fund were made with our Church Warden, Ray Wise presenting the cheque with these words "as a token of our love and concern for our hungry brothers and sisters, we have collected this gift of money as a tangible symbol of our desire to bear other peoples' burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ. We ask you, Sir to bless our gifts and to send it on its way with our love". The Rector in turn gave the cheque to John Deeves with these words, "we commission you to carry this cheque to our Cathedral Church, and there present it as part of our Diocesan gift to the world's hungry at the forthcoming Synod Service". Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hodgins of Brampton spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wise. John Deeves attended the 120 Annual Synod representing St. James Church, Middleton for the 19th time and under seven bishops. Kippen WIplan trip By Rena Caldwell The executive of Kippen East WI met at the home of the new president, Mrs. Dave 411) Triebner, to make up programs for 1978-79. It was decided to have a bus tour June 29 to visit Parkwood, the McLaughlin Estate at Oshawa and the Sara Lee Bakery. Anyone wishing to go should contact either Mrs. Robert Kinsman or Mrs. James Drummond. Garden club The first meeting of the 4-1-I Garden Club was held at the home of the leader Mrs. E. Roberts on March 19. Mrs. Roberts welcomed everyone and outlined the course of study for the Garden Club. a The election of officers was held. Results were : president, Jean Allan ; vice- president, Linda Roberts; press reporter, Karen Finlayson; a floating secretary, the first one to be Linda Vanneste. Mrs. Roberts divided the members into groups and a short game was played. After a journment, Mrs. Roberts s rved lunch. Personals Elzar Mousseau is in Seaforth Community Hospital. The family and consumers affairs meeting of Kippen East WI will be held in the , Legion Hall, Hensall, on May 17 at 8:30 p.m, The 4-H club girls will entertain, Mrs. Dave Triebner will give the motto and Mrs. Al Hoggarth will convene the lunch. Bert Faber is receiving treatment in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Greeters were Mrs. Jim Scott Sr. and Mrs. Russell Good, and the ushers were Diane Bromley, Karen Durnin, Barbara Glousher and Traci Mitchell. UCW President Mrs. Reg Lawson conducted the ser- vice. Reading the scripture was Aimwell Unit President Mrs. Bob Thompson; and leading in prayer was Berean President Mrs. Edwin Wood. The womans choir of 20 voices sang anthems "Redeeming live" and "this little light of mine" with Mrs. Allen Shaddick choir leader and Mrs. Harry Lear organist. The junior congregation teacher was Mrs. Bob Peel. Guest speaker was Mrs. Cecil Wiltick of Blyth, whose message was "a new people for a new age". The messengers met in the Sunday school rooms with their leader Mrs. John Radford. Rev. McDonald announced the 100th an- niversary tree planting ceremony at the manse next Sunday May 14 immediately following church pnd will be led down to the manse from the church by our piper. The youth of our congregation will be taking part in the service. Coffee and cookies will be served. Ham supper tickets are on sale for May 24th beginning at 5 p.m. Wif dessert euchre The WI held a successful dessert euchre of Friday May 5th at 7:30 p.m., with 19 tables in play. Mrs. Madeline McKinnon and her mother Mrs. Hawkins of Hamilton spent the past weekend with Mrs. Margaret Taylor. Congratulations to Helen Anderson on receiving the J. Lewis Polytechnical Institute as well as receiving a cash award, she is presently attending classes in interior design in Copenhagen for six weeks. Mr. and Mrs'. John Burleigh of Goderich visited on Sunday with her sister Mr. and Mrs. Harold Longman. Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Saun- dercock, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Shobbrook, Mrs. Elsie Shaddick called on Sunday at Stiles funeral home, Goderich with the family of their cousin the late Norman Manning. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Shob- brook were Sunday dinner guests with their daughter Thelma Ellerby, Frank and Dorie. Sunday evening visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Shobbrook were her brother Mr. and Mrs. Fred Vodden.
