Clinton group presents Guys and Dolls
By Rhea Hamilton
A production is being
presented in Clinton in two
weeks and it has had as many
interruptions and pitfalls as a
professional theatre troupe
off Broadway.
"Guys and Dolls" was
originally intended to be a
CHSS production but
rehearsals were suspended
because of the strike -lockout
situation which occurred
earlier this spring. Rather
than give the project up, the
cast chose to continue
practising on their own, using
church halls, and private
homes for practise rooms.
They gradually persuaded
some people in the com-
munity to give them some
help, including Louise
McGregor, pianist, and MrS.
Mary Hearn, musical
director.
This type of theatre
production costs are high.
There are royalties to pay
plus the cost of the music
sheets not to mention the
costume or props cost. The
Clinton Lions Club agreed to
give the group the financial
support they needed so badly
to get the show on the road.
"Guys and Dolls" now
being a community
production, several of the
teachers including Miss
Songs of spring couldn't be a more appropriate salute for a spring concert. Miss
Querengesser's Grade 1 class at Hullett Central showed this when they decked themselves
out and sang to a full house at last week's concert. (News -Record photo)

hilarious menage a trois.
Miss Savoy appeared on
stage in - a number of
productions before becoming
involved in radio and TV.
Parlor, Bedroom and Bath
is the twenties entry of the
Playhouse 1978 Festival of
Summer Theatre which
salutes six decades. Co-
authored by Charles Bell, a
prominent Hamilton lawyer,
the play became a smash hit
on Brodaway and later
became a Hollywood film
starring Buster Keaton.
Remaining a favorite
throughout the twenties, the
play then fell into obscurity.
The Playhouse will give the
famous old play its first
showing in perhaps 40 or 50
years.
The production, the second
of the Playhouse season,
opens for a one week run
beginning July 18.
