2—CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, THURSDAY, APRIL 27, 1978
Vancouverites who. A
month and more ago, revelled
in the beauty of streets lined
with flowering Japanese
plum trees and feasted their
winter -weary eyes on gar-
dens abloom with tulips and
daffodils, can hardly ap-
preciate the joy which
Clintonians experiencedi
while savouring Tuesday's
first real warm sunny day,
since last October.

hile thinking of editor Jim
Fitzgerald's timely remarks
in last week's paper regar-
ding town clean-up, we had a
visit at the office from Roy
Leppington of Clinton. He was
recalling for us the days in
the 1930s when he and Arthur
Fulford used to tour the town
streets with a horse and dray,
starting at 4 a.m. By using a
broom and shovel, they kept
Clinton streets free of litter
for the start of every day.
While in the office he also
entioned that he had
noticed the padlock around
one of the trees on the main
corner boulevard was
snapped.

Mr. and Mrs. Harvey
Hayter, Varna and Mr. and
Mrs. George Yeats, Clinton
were present at St.
Catharines on April 15 to
honour Mrs. Beatrice Lovett
of Linhaven Home for the
Aged as she celebrated her
90th birthday. Mrs. Lovett, a
former Clintonian, lived on
Rattenbury Street West in the
home which was demolished
last summer after being
purchased by Bell Canada.

Mrs. Mae McLeod of
Frederick Street, has
returned home after spending
the past three weeks with her
daughter, Roberta and family
of Owen Sound. The latter
then spent the past weekend
with her mother and another
day with her sister, Freda
McLeod and family of
Ontario Street.

The Trillium Club of King
Street Villa met recently' at
the Clinton Hotel for a dinner
party. This occasion marked
the club's first anniversary.
The members can look back
on a first year of work and
companionship highlighted
by a bazaar last December
and eight successful
quiltings. Congratulations to
a group who do not sit around
twiddling their thumbs.
The Club also held a suc-
cessful progressive euchre
party last Saturday April 22
at Pie Villa, with Mrs. Elsie
Youngblut, prize winner.

We should take a moment
to reflect that in the death of
Mrs. Connie Colclough last
week, Clinton lost one of its
most energetic senior
citizens. With a zest which
belied her age - she will be
remembered for her work
with the Huronview
Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels
and organizing innumerable
bus tours. The condolences of
the community go out to her
family.

A truck burst into flames
and was completely
destroyed, east of Lon-
desboro, April 14. Blyth fire
officials put out the fire at the

Gross had just started for

pigs when he noticed the
truck was acting strangely
and returned home. He had
just turned off the engine and
gotten out when he saw
flames at the bottom of the

I have never had a birth

I have lived here in Cen-

We are considering the
purchase of a swimming pool
and now we get a call from a
salesman who informs us that
ours is an "ideal residential
site" for a model pool, and if
we consent to this pool being
set up on our property we are
supposed to save 52,000 on its
purchase 'price.
Is this a valid offer or just a
"come on?"
We understand from the
Ontario Swimming Pool
Association that companies
who advertise in this manner
are NOT members of the
association and consequently
do not adhere to the code of
ethics as established by the
association.
Incidentally, this
association has an excellent
little pool buyers guide book,
which they will be happy to
send out FREE to anyone.

I bought (or thought I did)
two lamp tables from a chain
furniture store, and paid a
deposit to have them delivered
within 7 days. They arrived on
the eleventh day but lo and
behold were NOT the same as
the ones I had ordered.
They picked them up 3 days
after I phoned to complain,
and now after waiting six
weeks they phoned to tell me
that they can't get me the .
tables I wanted. They've tried
hard to give me something
else, but I don't want anything
else, just my deposit back.
We certainly agree that this
whole thing is quite ridiculous,
because when we talked to
their manager, he stated most
emphatically, that your
cheque for $20 had been
mailed two days earlier. You
finally received it 15 days
later!
