Playhouse updates summer playbill
James Murphy, Artistic
Director for the Huron
Country Playhouse, released
final plans for its 1978 festival
of summer theatre.
The six play season which
opens July 4 is a tribute to six
decades. One new play, Two
Below, will represent the
seventies; the others, ranging
back to the twenties, were
outstanding hits of their day.
The twenties entry is a
neglected Broadway hit
written in 1917 by a lawyer
from Hamilton, Ontario.
Each play has something of
significance to say about the
temper of the times which

We were once again
pleased to see the Country
Singles Club out in numbers
last Saturday evening as they
danced to the music of the
Country Cavaliers. The music
was superb as the floor was
kept filled to capacity with
every selection.
Two birthdays were
celebrated as the two in
question were ringed with
well wishers. A wholesome
chili -con -carne lunch was
prepared and served by the
three energetic directors of
the County Singles Club made
up of Irene Okahashi, Vicki
Horbaniuk, and Betty Car-

successful function in the
Legion, thanks to the Country
Singles Club. Our thanks also
to Comrade Frank Pyke for
assisting my wife and I on the
bar.
Don't forget Comrades, our
nomination meeting is next
Monday evening. We hope all
members will show an active
interest in the Legion by
attending and having your
names posted for the position
of your' choice. We all owe
allegiance to the Legion, we
hope that none of us will let it

Friends and Relatives Welcome

As previously announced,
The Odd Couple, Neil Simon's
hit of the mid sixties opens the
season with a two-week run
beginning July 4.
The second production is
the 1920s Broadway hit,
Parlor Bedroom and Bath
written by the Hamilton
lawyer, Charles Bell (in
collaboration with Mark
Swan). Said one critic at its
initial performance, it seems
... "designed solely to spread
the habit of laughter." The
story, which may spark some
sympathy for men's lib,
concerns the scrapes a man
gets into in trying to live up to
his wife's image of him as a
ladies' man! After the
Broadway run, the play was
made into a movie starring
Buster Keaton. Continuing as
a stock favourite throughout
the twenties, the play then fell
into neglect. The Playhouse
Company is giving the play
its first production in perhaps
40 or 50 years.
The third production of the
season speaks for the
seventies and centres on a
Canadian writer, George
Robertson.' Mr. Robertson's
play, Two Below, will be
receiving its premiere per-
formances in this production.
Two Below is a light comedy
about two unlikely types
holed up in the basement
apartment of a Toronto
tenement which happens to
be undergoing demolition.
Author George Robertson, a
native of Brampton, began
his career as an actor and
played leading roles in
several Broadway shows, has
appeared in a dozen films,
including Rosemary's Baby,
and recently played the lead
