Auburn's past is featured
"Auburn As It Was", will
be presented tonight in the
Auburn Community
Memorial Hall at 8 p.m. when
the Huron County Historical
Society will hold its April
meeting with Harry Worsell,
president in charge. There
will be a display of antique
glass and dishes along with
pictures and a special
musical program. Everyone
is welcome to attend and see
these pictures of Auburn as it
was.
SOCIAL NEWS
Little Miss Karen Plunkett,
five-year-old daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Alvin Plunkett is a
patient in Sick Children's
Hospital, London. Karen is
wished a speedy recovery.
Her mother remained in
London with her for a few
days.
Mrs. Wilma Brawley
arrived back home on the
weekend after a winter spent
in Florida.
Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock
attended the Hamilton
London Synodical Society of
the Presbyterian Women's
Missionary Society at
Leamington last week.
Mrs. Lillian Leatherland
last Sunday attended the
birthday party of her grand-
daughter, Barbara Lassaline
of Goderich.
Prize winners at the weekly
euchre party held every
Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. in
the Community Memorial
Hall this week were high
lady, Vickie Powell; low lady,
Mrs. Gordon Powell; high
man, Derrick Cartwright and
low man, Jim Cole.
Recent guest with Mrs.
Myrtle Munro were her son
Robert Youngblut, Mrs.
Youngblut, Susan, Bruce and
Kristen of Toronto.
Mrs. Mary Rollinson came
_home last week after a visit in
Toronto with her daughter,
Mrs. Alfred Weston and •Mr.
Weston.
Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Tiffin of
Wingham visited Mr. and
Mrs. Tom Jardin last
Thursday.
Captain and Mrs. Jack
Bennett of Amherstburg
spent last Saturday with his
aunt, Mrs. Elva Straughan.

of Lambeth visited last
Sunday ,with Mrs. Albert

HALL BOARD
MEETS
The Auburn Hall Board met
last Saturday eyeing with
chairman Jim Glousher in
charge. The minutes were
accepted as read by
secretary, Mrs. Donald
Haines.
The resignation of the
caretaker was accepted with
regret and it was decided to
carry on as well as possible
by hiring local help.
Estimates will be brought
in to lower the hall ceiling and
insulate it and the walls. It
was thought that fuel could be
conserved if this were done.
Other business was
discussed and doors are to be Smith's home in Dungannon.

4-H NEWS
The Auburn I 4-H club met
for its eighth meeting at the
home of Brenda Bos with the
president Sherry Verbeek in
charge.
The minutes were read by
Vickie Rodger and the roll
call was answered by each
member telling how to keep
physically fit. Mrs.
Hildebrand and Mrs. Cart-
wright outlined physical
fitness and plans were made
for the skit to be presented at
Achievement Day in Blyth on
May 6. The meeting was,
closed with the 4-H motto.
BIRTHDAY PLANNING
MEETING
Over 20 interested persons
were present last Wednesday
evening for the planning
meeting of the 125th birthday
party for Auburn. Fred
Lawrence, president, was in
charge and after the minutes,
Jim Schneider, the treasurer,
gave the financial statement
showing $1499.74 for this
project.
Bill Robertson reported
that there would be no ad-
vance tickets sold for the
dance on April 29. They will
be available at the door.
Bill Sproul reported on the
canoe races which will be
held on April 30 starting at
Marnock Bridge to Auburn
bridge with a $5 entry fee.
Trophies will be presented
and they are now ordered.
The lunch booth and
presentation will be at the
riverside near the Patterson
bridge.
Mr. and Mrs. Murray Popp
were present and represented
the Western Ontario Tractor
Pulling Association and spoke
of the requirements for the
pull on July 1, 1978. There will
also be a four-wheel truck
pull. Sandy Andrews and
Murray Popp will locate the
site on the ball diamond field
and prepare the site.
Barry Miliian reported for
the finance committee
regarding grants that might
be available for next year's
celebration. A pork barbecue
is planned for July 19 with two
sittings. Adults will pay $4
and children 12 and under $2.
Allan Craig and Fred
Lawrence will be in charge of
the barbecue. Mrs. Donald
Haines will be in charge of
tickets and' preparations for
the meal.
The next planning meeting
for the birthday party will be
held on May 24 at 8 p.m. and
everyone is welcome to come
and share the planning for
this event.
News of Middleton

Morning prayer was held in
St. James Church, Middleton
Sunday morning at 11:15 a.m.
Audrey Middleton read the
lesson, while Edward Wise
and Edward Deeves received
the offering. Rev. Wm.
Craven, retired minister of
Goderich was in charge of the
service.
ACW Meets
The ACW of St. James
Church held their Thankof-
fering meeting Thursday
April 13 at the home of Mrs.
Audrey Middleton with
several guests present, and
Mrs. Estelle Wise in charge.
Mrs. Delores Dutot read the
scripture readings, and Mrs.
Estelle Wise read the
Meditation. Mrs. Delnres
Dutot received the collection.
Mrs. Estelle Wise then
welcomed everyone to the
meeting and thanked Mrs.
Audrey Middleton for Opening
her home for the meeting.
Mrs. Shirley Storey read the
minutes of the March
meeting and the
correspondence. Ladies have
been invited to the Hospital
Tea May 10th from 2-4. Mrs.
Audrey Middleton presented
the treasurer's report, Mrs.
Blanche Deeves reported on
social services, and Mrs.
Delores Dutot gave a report
on the autograph quilt now
being made by the ACW.
A discussion was held on
packing of bale and ladies are
asked to bring articles for a
flea sale at Mrs. Marion
speaker Mrs. Gwen Watson,
had taken ill, in her place her
daughter Mr. Nancy Rowe
came and gave a talk on the
blind and Ken Wise showed a
slide on how blindness has
affected several peoples'
lives and just how they cope
with tiblindpess. Mrs. Rowe
also had a fine display of
articles her mother had
made, the articles were
beautifully made, a great
sample of what a blind person
can do.
A short question period was
held, and Mrs. Delores Dutot
thanked Mrs. Rowe for
coming and presented her
with a gift. Lunch was then
served by Mrs. Audrey
assisted by Mrs. Sarah Stoey.
