Respected resident leaving
At the end of this month,
Vanastra will be losing a
much respected resident of
the community, Mrs. Ginny
Floyd. Ginny was born and
spent her early childhood in
Wellburn, Ontario. Later she
moved to Blyth where she
finished her schooling.
She attended the Wells
Business Academy and
worked as a secretary in
London for a number of
years. Ginny is married and
has four boys aged 15, 14, 11
and 8.
After living in Cargill for 15
years Ginny and her family
moved out West. While there,
she worked in com-
munications for Maclntyre
Coal Mines, Grand Cache,
Alberta and also with pre-
schoolers at the community
centre.
In 1977, Ginny moved to
Vanastra and took theN Due to health reasons

by Conestoga College. Once and will be residing in
again she displayed her Calgary, thus beginning a
community spirit by
becoming involved with the
Vanastra Resource Centre. In
January of this year she was
hired by the Centre as the
Community Worker. Ginny
has worked with adults,
young children as well as
teenagers these past few
months.
The Teen Club and Calorie
Counters presented her with
some parting gifts to show
their appreciation for the
work that she has done on
their behalf. According to
Ginny her job has been "a
learning experience" and she
has "enjoyed working with
and meeting people in the
community". She also stated
that she hopes the residents of
Vanastra will support and
help the new community
worker as . much as they
supported her.

News of the Resource Centre
Now that the nicer weather
is upon us, we hope to see
more residents out to our
Thursday morning meetings.
The coffee pot is always on
and there is generally a
program every Thursday
morning.
This week at the Resource
Centre, we will be having Mr.
Gerald Hiltz, barrister from
Clinton. Mr. Hiltz will be
speaking on women's legal
rights and also some recent
changes in family law. This
will be this Thursday mor-
ning April 20 from 10:00 to
11:30. Everyone is welcome.
The following Thursday,
there will be a presentation
from the Energy Con-
servation office in Goderich.
Barb Zettler will be speaking
on energy saving tips for the
home and home insulation.
This should be very valuable
for all homeowners so be sure
to keep April 27th at 10 a.m. in
mind. The following Thur-
sday May 4, there will be
another Health Clinic
sponsored by the Health Unit.

Calorie Counters hold special party
The April 17 meeting of the
Vanastra Calorie Counters
held its last team approach
contest for the year. As in the
past, the winning team
supplied salads while the
losing team entertained. It's
hoped that this approach has
been both enjoyable and
conducive to weight loss.
• The club had an extra
special celebration that night.
A farewell party for one of the
group's leaders, Virginia
Floyd was given. Fond
wishes, gifts and a celebrated
diet cake were ways the club
expressed their feelings
towards Ginny.
Next week ladies, bring
your favourite recipe and
swap them and don't forget to
keep on exercising!
Public school marks ed. week
April 16-22 is Education
Week and the Vanastra
Public School held various
activities to celebrate.
On Tuesday, April 18, a
volleyball match was held
involving the pupils, parents
and teachers. The next
evening there was a corn-
munity "sing -a -long" in the
auditorium featuring the
Teen club
Our last meeting was held
on April 14 from 7-8.
Everyone played cards and
games. At 8 p.m. we went to
the bowling alley in Clinton
until 10 p.m.
We would like to say good-
bye to our leader Ginny
Floyd. She is moving to
Alberta. Thanks again,Ginny.

presented some audio visual
slides, a video-tape of the
Goderich Santa Claus Parade
displays on what has been
happening at the school this
year.

Guides learn macrame art
Last week, the Vanastra
Girl Guides were taught
macrame by Mrs. Liz Warren
and the girls hope to complete
their projects this Thursday
evening with the help of Mrs.
Warren once again.
On Saturday April 15, three
Vanastra Guides, Constance
King, Valerie Lewis and
Samanthe Poisson travelled
to Walkerton to compete in
the Division volleyball

Hensall and area natives die

Mrs. Smillie
Mrs. Annie W. (Gallaply)
Smillie passed away in
Maxville, Ontario on Friday,
April 7 in her 95th year. She
was the wife of the late Rev.
Benjamin Smillie.
Surviving are two sons,
Rev. Benjamin Smillie,
Saskatoon; and Allistair
Smillie, Victoria, B.C.; one
daughter, Mrs. Lint (Jean)
Taylor, Vancouver, B.C.
Several grandchildren also
survive.
Funeral service was held
from the Bonthron Funeral
Home, Hensall, Tuesday with
Rev. Don Beck officiating.
Interment was in Hensall
Union Cemetery.
Edgar Munn
Edgar Wilfred Munn was
born in Hay Township on
April 28, 1892, the son of Peter
and Eliza ' Jane (Eacrett)
Munn. Sisters Lulu and Cora
are predeceased and Bertha
Blackwell of California
survives.
He served in the First
World War 1914-1918 with the
161st Battalion. Upon
returning home he farmed on
the 2nd concession of Hay
Twp. for 30 years, then
retired to the village of
Hensall.
He served as an elder of the
Presbyterian `Church in
Hensall, and was a member"
of the 100F Lodge. In 1976 the
Royal Canadian Legion
presented him with a 50 year
membership medal. Edgar
and his wife Mabel celebrated
their 55th wedding an-
niversary in October 1977.
He enjoyed a healthy and
active retirement up to three
years ago. Following a recent
illness he passed away in
South Huron Hospital, Exeter
on April 10, 1978. He is sur-
vived by his wife Mabel A.
(Swan) Munn a daughter
Mrs. Aileen Gooding and
three grandchildren.
Celebrate 45th
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Corbett
celebrated their 45th wedding
anniversary on aturday
evening when they en-
tertained the members of
their family to a dinner at the
Pineridge Chalet.

of the Edelweiss Rebekah
Lodge in Seaforth on Monday
evening when the District
deputy president, Mrs.
Bertha MacGregor made her
official visit.
Mr. and Mrs. Austin
Wheeler returned to their
home in Detroit this week
after spending the past week
with their aunt Mrs. Edgar
Munn.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Flynn
returned home after spending
the winter months with their
daughter and son-in-law and
family Mr. and Mrs. Don
Avery in Deerfield Park,
Florida.
Mr. Ron Doiron of RR 3
Exeter has purchased the
property of Mr. and Mrs. Don
McCurdy on Main Street. Mr.,
and Mrs. McCurdy and
family have taken up
residence on a farm near
Centralia.
Mrs. Doris Bonthron of
London spent several days
last ,week at the home of her
son and daughter-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Bevan Bonthron.
Susan Luther graduated on
April 14, 1978 from the
Ontario Police College,
Aylmer, Ontario. She has
been a policewoman with the
Waterloo Regional Police
Force since January 1977. She
is' the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Eric Luther, Hensall,
Ontario.
Mrs. Blanche Chapman of
London was a weekend visitor
with her brother-in-law and
sister Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Corbett.
Vanastra tidbits
From now to the end of the
season, Cub meetings will be
from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the
Recreation Centre.
The Nursery School at the
Vanastra Christian Church is
looking for two new nursery
school teachers. This is a
volunteer position and the
only requirement is patience.
Contact Mrs. Diane Ryan if
you are interested. Nursery
School runs from September
to June on, Tuesdays and
Thursdays.
