However, sometimes we do create our own - such as the bridal supplement or the one in this week's issue, "Home and Garden Time". Usually the editorial staff remains aloof from the ad- vertising crew, whose job it is to underite whatever ar- ticles appear in a supplement of our own making. However, to editor, Jim Fitzgerald, this week's gardening guide is nothing short of sacred, -just don't let him see you peeling potatoes on it. The imprint of his two green thumbs is on every page - so go ahead read it and love it. +++ Mr. and Mrs. Howard Currie, Joseph Street, spent the weekend in Trenton where they attended the wedding of their grand- daughter, Brenda Bletcher and Frank Sedlacek of Trenton. The ceremony took place Saturday at 4 p.m. in St. George's Anglican Church, followed by a reception at the Fiesta Lounge (Skyline Restaurant), Trenton, Ont. Others attending from Clinton and area, besides the above, were Mr. and Mrs. Eric Switzer, Mr. and Mrs. Don Switzer, Mrs. Laura Emmerson and Mr. and Mrs. Doug Currie of Goderich. +++ Our desk received a note this week from Gene Rath, formerly of Huron Street, Clinton new residing in London, Ontario. A delay in receiving her weekly News - Record has been cleared up thanks to the prompt and courteous co-operation of our local post office. It's not that we like getting letters about the delivery delays of ow paper - but we appreciate the fact that our subscribers care enough about the home town news to miss it if it doesn't arrive. +++ The "Second Annual Maitland C.F. Pace Canoe Race" takes place this coming Sunday, April 23. "C.F", as probably you all know, stands for Cystic Fibrosis - and the Canoe Race, held for the first time last year was such an out- standing success, that our local Kinsmen Club are again sponsoring the event with all proceeds going to the cystic fibrosis research cause. Decent weather permitting, why not take in the race, if not as a competitor - then as a spectator? Full credit goes to our Kinsmen who certainly live up to the word "service" and especially to Garry Merner, RR 3, Clinton who was chairman for this event. A rather nice note, - many of the canoers who came to compete last year were still remembering at Christmas time '77 and sent cards to Garry Merner to say so. +4- + Last Friday evening April 14 the entire force of the Signal -Star Publishing Limited and their spouses and or friends, congregated at the Saltford Valley Hall for the firm's annual dinner dance. Like an oversized family gathering, the staffs of the Goderich Signal -Star, the Kincardine News, the Lucknow Sentinel, the Mit- chell Advocate • and the Clinton News -Record were there, joined this year by the staff of the newest member of the clan, Webman Limited of Guelph. It was a great evening and those of us who talk to each other by phone between the six locations in southwestern Ontario got a chance to see our counterparts in living size and colour. Constance news by Mary Meurer Court Constantine L1842 held a family dance on Friday evening April 7 in the hall with the youth committee in charge. Christian School PTA meet The semi-annual meeting of the Parent and Teachers Association of the Clinton and District Christian School was held on April 10th in the Christian Reformed church hall. The meeting was chaired by Mrs. Grace Hamming of Blyth and it featured as guest speaker Mr. John Struik, Community Consultant for Salem. Salem is a mental health out-patient clinic in Rexdale, Ontario. Supported by in- terested Christian groups, as well as by the Christian Reformed Church through an interdenominational board, Salem attempts in its area to nurture mental health and mental stability. As a Community Con- sultant for Salem, Mr. Struik travels throughout Ontario and Eastern Canada speaking to interested groups. He provides family and individual therapy at the clinic. Mr. Struik spoke to an enthusiastic assembly of parents and teachers on the appropriate topic "Under- standing our Children and Young People." When interviewed as to the purpose of the meeting, one of the teachers explained that, "It has always been one of the goals of our Christian homes and therefore our Christian schools to teach a Christian life style, Christian virtues, and in general to encourage in our children, hearts directed to Christ. The teacher went on to explain, "The problems begin when we as parents and our children try to implement that life style. Our peers and our own selfish wishes, rather than our faith, often dictate our actions. "The primary reason for our misunderstandings with each other and our children is our lack of faithfulness. It is important to try to un- derstand the consequences of our lack of closeness to God as they show themselves in our relationships with each other." "The speaker," he said, "would discuss these consequences as they related to those unhealthy situations which sometimes develop among children at school and between parents and their children." Mr. Struik discussed the importance of parents and teachers to be good living examples of the Christian life. Practice what you preach if you want results. PHOTOGRAPHY BY JAMES FITZGERALD Specializing in WEDDINGS • PASSPORTS INDUSTRIAL WORK 482-9502 or 3890 I sent a S36 money order to a firm called Discovery House to obtain a set of "Mac" carving knives. Since then ... nothing! I've read in your column where you've been able to speed delivery from some mail order firms, so I'm hoping that you will try and get some action for me. I should tell you that I've written twice and got no reply, and I also tried to phone but couldn't because their phone is unlisted. "IMPACT" has received word from this firm that they have now sent your carving knives via registered mail. They claim they sent you a letter explaining that they had run short of "Mac" knives and that they would. "Ship same, as soon as possible." but obviously you never received this letter. Could IM- PACT tell me who sells them, please? We have been informed that the Athens Book Store located on Monroe Street in Detroit. currently has them for sale. Apparently they have quite a Targe selection. ranging in price from $2 to $15 for a large decorative string. From what we have been told we gather that the head fingering habit is over 3,000 years old and got its start in the Orient. It seems that the noise made, when the beads clack together, helps to calm the user and acts as an outlet for nervous energy. If they work for you please let to know. as the writer too would like to kick the smoking habit.
