Francis Bacon said, "I hold every man a debtor to his profession." Good, that covers a wide territory in this present dispute. And, if the cap fits, let's all get busy and wear it. Trouble is, it seems too tight for some and too large for others! This week, in an endeavour to do anything whatever to bring this strike to culmination, the News - Record is centering on bringing the issues to the public. Also, we as parents can follow the advice con- tained in a letter to the editor, signed by the Concerned Parents, and write our feelings, very plainly, to The Huron County Board of Education, the OSSTF, the Education Relations Com- mission, (address is in the letter to the editor.) and to your local M.P.P. +++ News gathering and reporting seems to stay in the blood. This week we are in- debted to Mrs. Muriel Trott, a former correspondent for the London Free Press. Mrs. Trott found the following material for us which will be of interest to many readers. The death last Friday in Toronto of Dr. Charles Best, co -discoverer of insulin brought to mind the name of Dr. Foster Copp. Dr. Copp was born in Clinton in 1899 and received his medical degree from the University of Toronto in 1923. While there he worked under Sir Frederick Banting and Professor Best in the early experimental diabetic studies which led to the discovery of insulin. Upon completion of his work with Doctors Banting and Best, he was sent to the Rockefeller Institute in New York for further medical research and, subsequently, was the first to demonstrate the administration and use of 414 xk K 1{ ?3it 14---}i WISHES A HAPPY BIRTHDAY To On Janet Steep Brenda Finch Robert Cudmore Derek. Dr. Copp was married to the former Louise Holmes, a granddaughter of William Doherty, founder of the Doherty Organ Factory. +++ Mr. and Mrs. Watt Web- ster, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Irwin of Clinton and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Baker of Bayfield, have just returned from a five day tour to Washington, D.C. While there they had the tourists' grand tour of the White House and also saw the graves of President Kennedy and his brother, Robert, at Arlington Cemetery. Wat- ching the Cherry Blossom Parade, complete with marching bands was of particular interest. +++ While laying a new floor in their home, Bob and Donna Gibbings of RR 1, Clinton, unearthed a copy of the News - Record dated February 13, 1936. Staring at me from the front page as I type are the market prices. Read these and weep. Butter 22c per lb. Eggs medium 18c dozen. Also of interest, the notation that, 'the "boxy Theatre", Clinton's new talkie, will have its grand opening next Monday night.' Showing was the movie "Shipmates Forever" with Ruby Keeler and Dick Powell. + + Last week when mentioning Margaret Thorndike's trip to Florida we inadvertently got our wires crossed. While in West Palm Beach she spent the evening with Mrs. Iva Boyce - and visited with Dr. and Mrs. Walter Oakes who were also there. -I- The The Huron County farmers really enjoyed the bonspiel at Vanastra on March 22. In fact they understand that one rink even played a fourth game that day. A special thanks is extended to 'the organizers - Fred Gibson and Mery Falconer for an enjoyable day. You really earned that new coat, Fred! Evelyn, Ilene, Ann Marg and Mary served a delicious meal. To everyone involved with the farmers' and corn spiels at Vanastra - the area farmers raise their brooms in a special thank -you. + + + Winner of the 350 draw sponsored by the Junior C Hockey Club on March 30 was Joe Whalen of Clinton with a prize of $300. + + + Results of the Huron Fish and Game Club monthly dart tournament were: high lady, Kay Falconer; high man, Stan Falconer; low lady, Helen Beach; low man, Ed Burk. More on ballet Miloslawa Zablocki doesn't like to forget anyone, especially her ballet students. Last week the News -Record featured a People in Profile on Mrs. Zablocki, her life and her dancing, however two of her students who went on with their dancing were inad- vertently left out of the story. boy McCallist,er, nee Graham, formerly of Clinton and novo living in Quebec, finished her grade 6 with Mrs. Zablocki and then was ac- cepted with the Grand Ballet Canadian Academy. As well, she taught ballet and had a large class of her own. Brenda Galachuik of Clinton studied with Mrs. Zablocki for 10 years and was Mrs. Zablocki's assistant. She went on to help figure skaters by using ballet and taught ballet in .Vanastra and now teaches in her home in town. Perform a death -defying act. Reduce if overweight. The problem is, they couldn't or wouldn't give me the address of the manufac- turer. We did get some booklets when we bought this set, but they have disappeared. Can you get me an address to 'return this pot? The manufacturer and distributor of this product is: Supreme Aluminum In- dustries, 3600 Danforth Ave. Scarborough, Ontario. My own efforts were completely useless as the only in- formation they would tell me was, that if I didn't pay money owing I would be dealing with a collection agency. Shortly after I wrote you, the unwanted tapes stopped arriving, and now in my mail today I received a statement showing my balance to be nil. This letter then, is to say that I'm most appreciative of your efforts on my behalf, and I thank you for getting this mess cleared up, and Columbia House finally off my• back.
