Over 40 members of the Clinton Legion Branch 140 received pins for 30 years of active

Hensall Rebekahs hold euchre party

Amber Rebekah Lodge
members held a most suc-
cessful "dessert" euchre and
bake sale in the Lodge Hall on
Wednesday. There were 14
tables playing euchre.
The prize winners wefe as
follows: ladies first prize
winner, Mrs. Reg Miller,
Noble Grand of Huronic
Lodge, Clinton; second prize,
Mrs. Mary Broadfoot; Kip -
pen; consolation, Mrs. Ward
Hern, Exeter; lucky chair
prize, Mrs. Eldin Kerr, Noble
Grand of Edelweiss Lodge,

Mrs. Kay Wise, Huronic

Carmel Church
Rev. Fox of Huron College
London conducted the Easter
Church service at Carmel
Presbyterian Church on
Sunday. The choir sang an
anthem under the direction of
Miss Brenda Pepper at the
orean .

BIRTHDAY COMMITTEE
About 25 persons attended
the meeting last Wednesday
evening in the Community
Memorial Hall to plan for
Auburn's 125 birthday party
Anhin 1979. President Fred
awrence was in charge and
he minutes were accepted as
read by secretary, Eleanor
Bradnock. The treasurer
reported that $749 had been
given from the Poker Rally.
Various committee con-
veners discussed events and
it was decided to hold a
sanctioned tractor pull on the
weekend of July 1. More
information will be obtained
from Murray Popp regarding
the Western Ontario Tractor
Pulling Association
regulations.
It was planned to hold the
first dance, April 29 in the
Community Memorial Hall
and Canoe races will be held
on April 30 on the Maitland
River with Bill Sproul and his
sports committee in charge.
The Auburn Junior Farmers
will assist in advertising.
The meeting was adjourned
to meet again on April 12.

St. Mark's Anglican Church
Women met for their March
meeting at the home of
president, Mrs. Donald
Cartwright. Mrs.
Thomas Haggitt led in
prayers followed by the
Lord's prayer in unison.
Mrs. Cartwright chose the
scripture lesson from St.
Luke 24th chapter. Everyone
took part in the Living
Message chapter. Mrs.
Cartwright thanked everyone
for taking their parts.
The minutes were approved
as read by secretary, Mrs.
John Daer and the financial
statement was accepted as
given by treasurer, Mrs.
Thomas Haggitt.
An invitation to attend the
United Church Women
Easter Thankoffering was
read for April 9 at 8 p.m.
when a cantata will be
presented by the Fordwich
United Church choir under
the direction of Mrs. Ronald
Livermore.
As April 16 is Laymen's
Sunday, Mrs. Thomas
Haggitt and Mrs. Lillian
Leatherland were chosen to
take part in the church ser-
vice.
Lunch was served by Mrs.
Cartwright assisted by Mrs.
Thomas Haggitt.
COFFEE -TIMERS
The Coffee -Timers went to
Vanastra on Monday, March
20 for a swim and a sauna.
The next meeting will be held
on ,Monday, April 3 at the
home of Mrs. Mary Anne
Rae. There will be a speaker
on breast cancer.

Institute held their March
meeting in the Community
Memorial Hall last Tuesday
afternoon. President, Mrs.
Eleanor Bradnock opened the
meeting The
Message of Easter, was read
by Mrs. Leonard Archam-
bault.
The minutes were accepted
as read by secretary, Mrs.
Robert Peck. A letter was
read from the provincial
president of F.W.I.O., Mrs.
Florence Diamond of New
Hamburg.

Plans were made for the
Huron County Historical
Society meeting on April 10 at
8 p.m. in Auburn Community
Memorial Hall.
Mrs. Donald Cartwright
reported that there had been
five meetings with 13
members. Achievement day
is to be held on May 6 at
Blyth.
The card report was given
by Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell
and Mrs. Frank Raithby
reported on labels received to
date.
The quilt which was
designed for the International
Ploughing meet was
discussed and twelve
members offered to em-
broider the blocks.
The roll call was answered
by naming a member of the
executive of the London area.

bault, Public Relations
Officer, introduced Robyn
Theedom, publicity com-
mittee secretary of the
International Ploughing
match, Huron 78. She showed
pictures of other years'
matches and told about plans
for the match in Huron near
Wingham September 26-30,
1978. Mrs. Thomas Haggitt
thanked the speaker and
presented her with a gift.
Plans were made for the
next meeting when the
nominating committee will
bring in the slate of officers
and all conveners will bring
in their year's reports. The
District President of Huron
West, Mrs. Graham McNee of
Dungannon, will bring
greetings. Mrs. Donald
Haines and Mrs. Thomas
Jardin will set up the craft
displays brought in by the
members. Each member is to
bring a guest to the
smorgasbord luncheon at
12:30 p.m.
Prizes were won by Mrs.
Lawrence Plaetzer for having
the lucky saucer and Mrs.
Donald Haines for having the
birthday nearest. Lunch was
served by Mrs. Wilfred
Sanderson and Mrs. Andrew
Kirkconnell.
HORTICULTURAL
SOCIETY
The April meeting of the
Auburn Horticultural Society
will be held on April 3 in the
Community Memorial Hall.
Mr. Harvey McDowell of
Blyth will show pictures and
plans will be made for the
spring!, flower beds. The
meeting will be held at 8 p.m.

donation will be sent to Alma
College to go into a bursary

Easter treat boxes for some
20 shut-ins and each Unit is
asked to make a quilt top to

supply. Two quilts were given
to Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Menary.
Members were reminded of
the Cantata to be presented
on April 9 at 8 p.m. as their

vice.

Lovers, held their fifth
meeting by going on a nature
hike to Robinson's sugar
bush. Mr. Robinson told about
the origin of maple syrup and
gave the history. He reported
