Shirley Weary said she felt
the teachers had to continue
to stand up for what they
believed. She said she was not
happy with the strike but said
she didn't feel as much guilt
about staying out of school
Tuesday as she did when she
first walked out in mid-
February.
The proposal issued by the
teachers for the Good Friday
session stated that workload
conditions be written into the
contract for both years under
negotiation_ It specified that
no teacher shall be respon-
sible for rnore than 180
students in advanced credits,
155 in general credits other
than commercial subjects,
140 students in taking
technical credits and 100 in
special education classes.
Along with that total pupil
period contact the proposal
stated that no class shall
exceed 30 students in ad-
vanced credits, 25 students in
general credits, 20 students in
technical classes and 15 in
special ed. The board was
also requested to adjust
teacher timetables so that
each teacher was required to
teach six periods a day. The
remainder of the periods in
the eight period cycle were to
be used for teachers to handle

struction Company Limited
of Guelph_ Whitney Con-
struction Limited of Stratford
and Schiedel Construction

also built the J.B. Allen
Company Limited building
and the Textral Fibres
Limited building in Goderich.
The high tender came from
the Ariss Company with an
offer to build the grandstand
for $273,328 beginning work
within 20 days of contract
time and completing this
work within 26 weeks.
The Schiedel Company
offered to build the grand-
stand for $245,977 beginning
within 30 days of contract
time ands, completing this
work within 12 weeks.
The Whitney Company was
the low tender with an offer to

Along with the workload
clause the sick leave gratuity
clause was written so that
any teacher with 12 years of
service in Huron was eligible
for a pension and entitled to
gratuity at the termination of
employment.
The board wanted the
workload clause deleted from
the contract and wanted the
sick leave clause to read 12
years of service or 50 years of
age.
Goderich Twp. pay
Bayfield fire levy
Goderich Township
Council met on March 20 and
were presented with a
budget, a bill for interest
charges and a bill for the
purchase of a new fire truck
by -the Bayfield Fire Area
Board of Management. The
share of interest charges
($214.37) and the share of the
cost of the fire truck
($16,075.50) were placed in
accounts payable. Council
passed a motion to pay half of
the budget in March and the
other half in or by July 15.
The budget is $1,990.30.
Building permits were
requested of council by Steve
Hantho for a house, John
Shepherd for a barn addition,
Dennis Lassaline for a house,
Donald Harris for a porch,
Chas. Mathers for a barn
addition and Don Taylor for a
hog barn. Hantho's ap-
plication was rejected by
"council; Mathers' application
is being held pending ap-
proval of the M.T.C. (if
needed) ; Shepherd's ap-
plication is being held pen-
ding proof of a certificate of
compliance; Taylor's ap-
plication is also being held
pending production of the
certificate of compliance and
Harris' and Lassaline's
applications were approved
by council.
Council reported that an on
site inspection of M. J.
Driver's trailer camp site had
been made. The ipspection
showed that roads `appeared

Tile drain loans were ap-
proved for J. Wright
($14,000); W. Mclllwain
($16,000) and E. Ridder

TENDERS OPENED
Tenders for crushing,
delivering and stockpiling
gravel were received by
council as follows: Radford -
15,000 yards at $1.60 and 3,000
yards stockpiled at $1.05;
Jennison - 15,000 yards at
$1.45 and 3,000 yards stock-
piled at 85 cents; and Lavis -
15,000 yards at $1.39 and 3,000
yards stockpiled at 94 cents.
The Lavis tender was ac-
cepted by council subject to
the approval of M.T.C.
Tractor quotations were
received from Vincent
George Wraith, C & G, and
Ray Potter. Council deferred
its decision regarding the
tractor in order to compare
details and to have the
quotations transferred to
tender forms.
Robert Storey's proposed
pla% of a subdivision was
presented to council,and
discussed. Council hen
passed a motion that the draft
plan be approved as per
questionnaire.
John Koene objected to a
tax bill interest charge of
$26.35 and council passed a
motion to remove this charge
from the tax roll on property
No. 55-1.
Accounts were ordered
paid by council and the
meeting adjourned to April 5
at 8 p.m.
