Payne Village Notes Your correspondent, Hilda M. Payne, has returned from her visit to Poway, Califor- nia, where she and her husband were visiting with their daughter and her family, and will be pleased to receive your reports, per- sonals, etc., as before, Mrs. Laird Mickle returned last week after spending almost two weeks with her daughter's family in Waterloo while their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ross McMillan were holidaying in London, England and visiting friends in Scotland. Church News The service at the Hensall United Church on Sunday, March 19 was conducted by Rev. Don Beck with Dr. Ralph Topp at the organ. The choir, under the direction of Mrs. Marianne McCaffrey, sang the anthem, "Lift up your heads" with Mrs. Donna St. John taking the solo. On Thursday, March 23, Maundy Thursday Com- munion ervice will be held at Hensall at 7:30 p.m. for both Hensall and Chiselhurst congregations. On Easter Sunday, a Sunrise Service will be held at 6:30 a.m., followed by breakfast for both congregations with the usual Sunday services following. +++ Stephen, Scott, Kara and Lisa McAllister visited with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John McAllister over the weekend. Mrs. Inez McEwan is a patient in Seaforth Com- munity Hospital. Mrs. Earl Flaxbard and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Thiel of Zurich visited with Mr. and Mrs. Sam Oesch on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hyde have returned from a pleasant trip to Daytona Beach, Florida, and surrounding places of in- terest. Unit 11 UCW At the March meeting of Unit two of Hensall United Church, Mrs. Kaye Mock presented a film strip on "The Caribbean Crescent" for the topic. Thoughts of spring were introduced by Mrs. Dianne Gerstenkorn who gave the devotional. The meeting was presided over by Mrs. Joyce Pepper and roll call, naming favourite person in the Bible, was answered by 11 people. In the business session, an in- vitation to Kippen UCW on April 11 was accepted and helpers with the funeral lunch served recently were thanked; also, the members of Unit two were invited to participate in the 25th Wedding Anniversary of Mona and Vern Alderdice. At the close, Mrs. Pat Venner - and Mrs. Peggy Forrest served lunch. Three Links meet By Bertha MacGregor The "Three Links" seniors met in the local hall on Tuesday evening. The president, Mrs. Rosa Harris presided at the business meeting with Mrs. Wm. Rogerson at the piano. Mrs. Bert Horton gave the treasurer's report and a discussion on entertaining other clubs and a trip to Europe was held. The Spring Rally of Zone No. 8 will be held in Exeter on April 12. Progressive Euchre was played with the following prize winners : ladies' 1st prize, Mrs. Elizabeth Riley; consolation, Mrs. Madeline Harburn; gent's 1st, Wm. Rogerson; gent's consolation, Clarence Volland; lone hands, Mrs. Ruby Bell; ladies' birthday nearest the date, Mrs. Gladys Coleman; gentleman with nearest birthday to date, William Rogerson; lucky chair, Clarence Volland. Refreshments were served by the social and en- tertainment committee, ,Mr. and Mrs. Percy Campbell, Mrs. Madeline Harburn, Mr. William Fairburn and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Volland. Lodge receives invitation Noble Grand Mrs. Maggie Campbell presided for the regular meeting of Amber Rebekahs Lodge No. 349 on Wednesday evening, assisted by Mrs. Aldeen Volland R.S.V.G. The financial secretary, Mrs. Irene Black- well, reported on members dues. A card of thanks was received from the Lavery family. Mrs. Aldeen Volland reported cards sent to members. An invitation was received and accepted from Pride of Huron Lodge, Exeter, inviting the members to attend a banquet on April 5 in honour of the District Deputy president, Mrs. Bertha MacGregor. They also received an in- vitation to a "dessert euchre at Exeter Lodge March 29 at 1:30 p.m. The representative and scholar to attend the Rebekah Assembly June 12 to 14 in Toronto are Mrs. Bertha MacGregor and Mrs. Dorothy Parker. Mrs. Margaret Consitt and Mrs. Aldeen Volland were appointed representatives to the district meeting being held in Hensall Lodge Hall Wednesday April 12. Mrs. Maggie Campbell. N.G. and Mrs. Margaret Consitt. L.S.N.G. reported for the C.P.T. on the Euchre and sale of magazines. Plans were finalized for the banquet being held in Carmel Presbyterian School room on April 19 in honour of the assembly president Mrs. Jean Bolton, who will make her official visit to the Lodge. Edelweiss Rebekah Lodge Seaforth will be the guests at the Banquet. Mrs. Doreen Spencer Mrs. Doreen (Farquhar) Spencer beloved wife of Walter C. Spencer Hensall, passed away at South Huron Hospital, Exeter on Thursday March 16, 1978. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John (Gwendolyn) Lewis, Sarnia, and a son Gregory Spencer, Bancroft. Also surviving are her mother Mrs. Charles (Emma) Farquhar, Hensall; sisters Miss Dorothy Farquhar, and Mrs. E.(Mary) Knox of Toronto; brothers Aubrey of Exeter and Ronald, Toronto; and silt grandchildren. Funeral services were held from Hensall United Church on Saturday, March 18, with interment in Exeter Cemetery. The pallbearers were Eric Luther, Howard Scane, Ron Mock, Al Scholl, . William Smith and Douglas Cook. UCW Chiselhurst Following a morning of quilting and pot luck dinner March 8 the UCW of Chiselhurst held their regular meeting. Anti-bordom clinic was the -topic of the worship service chosen by Mrs. Freida Boa. The roll call was answered by the members, repeating the ten com- mandments. A letter was read about the availability of articles to help us keep our meetings" .interesting. These articles can be obtained at the Resource Centre, Mitchell. It was announced one of our members, Mrs. Harold Parker was the president of the South Huron UCW region. The members decided to have a slip and bloomer sale at the May meeting and they will visit the Queensway Nursing Home on Mondays of March. The study book on Jamaica was discussed by Mrs. Ross Riley. The meeting concluded with the Lord's prayer in unison. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Gerald Glenn and Mrs. T. Brintnell. Mrs. Bertha MacGregor returned home aftt ,pending a week at the horn. jf Mr. and Mrs. Don MacLaren with Jodi and Brooke at Oakville. Mrs. James Sangster, who was receiving treatment in South Huron Hospital, Exeter, returned to her home Saturday. Mr. Edgar Munn is a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Waering, Mr. and Mrs. George Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Murray Traquair and Mr. and Mrs. Don Dixon and family returned home from a week vacation snowmobiling in the Huntsville area. Mrs. Jack -Corbett and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Adams of Exeter were in Detroit at- tending the funeral of their aunt, Mrs. Evelyn Maier. The CPT Committee of the Oddfellow and Rebekah Lodges held a euchre party on Thursday evening. Prize winners were: ladies' 1st, Mrs. Elizabeth Riley; ladies consolation, Mrs. Joe Carter; gent's lst, Ross Richardson; gent's consolation, Eric Mansfield; lone hands, Clarence Volland; lucky draw on fruit, Mrs. Clarence Volland; 2nd draw, Mrs. Ross Richardson.
