Lake
to rise
The level of Lake Huron is
expected to be about 15
centimetres higher this
summer compared with a
year ago, but Environment
Canada says normal
precipitation during the next
two months should preclude
any threat of flooding.
Unusually heavy rainfall
last fall and the present ac-
cumulation of snow
throughout the Great Lakes
basin is responsible for the
increase in the.1.ake levels.
An unusually dry February
and higher than normal
outflows through the power
dam at Cornwall have
reduced the threat of
shoreline flooding on Lake
Ontario, the Canada Centre
for Inland Waters at
Burlington says.
Fine weather also has
reduced levels of each of the
other Great Lakes, although
Lake Erie is expected to be
slightly higher this summer
compared to 1977.
