Each lady who attended had a daffodil pinned on them by the men of Trinity Church. After the service both congregations joined in the tasting of the Simnel Cake, plus cider, coffee and drink for the children. A social time was had by all. Next Sunday at St. James Church, Middleton there will be Holy Communion at 11 :15 a.m. The ACW bus trip to Ice Capades at Kitchener is today, March 9 so please be at Murphy's Bus Line on High- way 8 not later than 5:45 pm so we may leave promptly at 6. After the show, we will stop at MacDonalds before returning home. See you all then. ACW meets The March meeting of the ACW of St. James Church Middleton was held March 2 at the home of Vera Miller. Blanche Deeves, who was in charge of the meeting opened by reading "E're Easter Comes" and also. thanked Vera for opening her home. Blanche read the in- vocation and the Scripture was read by Lynda Steenstra. A hymn was sung with Vera Miller playing the organ, and Meditat1on was read by Lynda Steenstra. Sarah Storey read the secretary's report in the absence of Shirley, treasurer's report was presented by Vera Miller, and social service report was given by Blanche. Vera Miller is to buy lilies for the church at Easter, and the April meeting will be held at Audrey Middleton's. They are planning to have Bishop Townshend for the Easter Service, weather permitting, and will hold an anniversary service sometime in May. A discussion was held on the autograph with Delores Dutot to purchase the materials needed. Lynda Steenstra gave a reading Irish Blessing and Rev. Wm. Bennett closed the meeting in prayer. Vera Miller played several Irish tunes on the organ with the ladies joining in a sing song. Lunch was served by Vera Miller assisted by Delores Dutot,. Three couples from this area were on the same tour, in- cluding Frank and Eileen Potter, Gordon and Darlene Shobbrook of Londesboro; and Bert and Joanne Lyon of Auburn. The first three days were spent in San Francisco at Fishermans' Wharf and then two weeks visiting three of the Hawaiian Islands of Maui, Kauai and Oahu. Sun and temperature of these islands were in the mid 80s, making for a beautiful retrieve from Ontario's winter. Last weekend, Edward and Lois Wise journeyed with Bernice and Stan Mcllwain of Goderich, Bill and Lois Hodgert of Seafort.h to Geneva Park on Lake Couchiching of the 13th Annual Canadian Square and Round dance winter weekend. Sandra and Dennis Kelly and Cindy of Woodstock have been visiting with Sandra's sister Barb and Chris Cowan in the Auburn area and with Edward and Lois Wise. Euchre party planned By Bertha MacGregor Rebekah's plan euchre Mrs. Maggie Campbell Noble Grand presided at the regular meeting of Amber Rebekah Lodge No. 349 on Wed. evening assisted by Mrs. Wreatha Gregg Vice Grand. Mrs. Aldeen Volland RSVG reported for the visiting Committee. Mrs. Dorothy Corbett, treasurer reported the finances. The CPT committee are holding a euchre party in the lower hall on Thursday March 9 at 8:30 pm. The "speak off" for the youth's to the United Nations was postponed until March 10 and will be held in Clinton Public School. Note the change of date and the Public School. A donation was voted to "The president's project". Arrangements were made for a "dessert euchre" to be held in the lower hall March 22 at 1:30 pm. Birthday greetings were extended to Wreatha Gregg and Estella Jackson. Following the meeting a "Penny Sale" was held and a social hour enjoyed when refreshments were served. +++ Mrs. Anita Bengough, who had the misfortune to fall, is a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter. Mrs. Milton Lavery Mrs. Milton Lavery, the former Mae Bernice Harris of Hensall, passed away at the Queensway Nursing Home, Hensall, Feb. 27 in her 63rd year. Surviving are her husband Milton J. Lavery, Hensall; sons, Gordon Lavery, Zurich; Robert Lavery, Hensall, Alvin Lavey, London; and Sharon (Mrs. Charles Doxtator) of Hensall, and sister Mrs. Sidney (Pearl) Pullman, London. She was predeceased by two brothers. Also sur- viving are six grandchildren. Funeral service was held from the Bonthron Funeral Home on Thursday, March 2 with Rev. Don Beck, of- ficiating. Temporary en- tombment was in Hensall Union Mausoleum, and burial will take place in Staffa Cemetery at a later date. +++ Mr. Alex Munn underwent surgery in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Mr. and Mrs. Robert. Lavery and Mr. and Mrs. George Beer returned home after holidaying in Florida. World Day of Prayer The World Day of Prayer was held in the Hensall United Church on Friday at 2:30 p.m. Mrs. Van Essen of Exeter was the guest speaker and the theme was "Com- munity Spirit in Modern Living". Mrs. Van Essen was introduced and thanked by Mrs. D. Beck. The president of Chiselhurst UCW, Mrs. J. Brintnell, led in part of the service with Mrs. Rosa Harris reading the scripture. Mrs. Ted Roberts and Mrs. (Rev.) Anderson took part for St. Paul's Anglican Church. Mrs. Harvey Hyde and Mrs. Don Volland took part for the Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Roger Venner and Mrs. Beck were in charge of the part for the United Church. A social hour followed and refreshments were served. Unit four meets Unit four of Hensall UCW held their monthly meeting on Thursday, March 2 with 15 members present. Mrs. J. McAllister presided and opened the meeting with a reading and the devotional was given by Mrs. Gladys Coleman. Mrs. Wm. Rogerson had the study book on the Carribbean and spoke about the Island of Puerto Rico. Mrs. Britton and Mrs. Luther sang a duet with Mrs. Mickle at the piano. 44 visits were made to the sick and shut-ins during February. Mrs. L. Purdy and her committee served lunch. • World Day of Prayer held The ladies of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church were in charge of The World Day of Prayer of 1978 and the service was held in that church on Friday, March 3 at 2:30 pm. The speaker, Mrs. Sharon Boersma, brought the message on the theme of this year's program, "Com- munity Spirit in Modern Living." Mrs. Joanne Walker was' guest organist. The hymns . were especially chosen.. by the national committee and one was written for this year's ser- vice. The Rising Sun Quartette" brought a message in song, accompanying themselves on guitars. Representatives from eight local churches taking part shared the readings, prayers and scriptures. Next year's World Day of Prayer service will be in charge of St. Paul's Anglican congregation.
