WI hears of Hawaii
"International Day" was
the theme of the regular
monthly meeting of the
Clinton Women's Institute
held in the Board room of the
local Agricultural Office on
Thursday afternoon,
February 23. The president
Mrs. W. Colclough presided
and the secretary, Mrs. C.
Lockhart assisted with the
business. The president
thanked all the members who
had assisted with the Bir-
thday Party at Huronview on
February 15.
Over 20 members answered
the roll call with a news item
of International importance.
Mrs. J. Gibson and Miss M.
Harvey reported on cards and
flowers sent to the sick and
members were urged to visit
the sick more often.
A letter was read from the
home economist outlining the
new short courses, leadership
training schools, and food
forums for the ensuing year.
A "food forum" on "Tricks
with a Mix" will be held in
Ontario Street United
Church, Clinton, on Tuesday
March 14, at 8 pm.
It was agreed to donate a
cash prize to the needlecraft
section of the Clinton Spring
Fair to be held June 2, 3, and
4. Mrs. Leona Lockhart was
named as delegate to attend
the officer's conference at
Waterloo College in May,
while Mrs.G. Smith, was
appointed as alternate. Ten
dollars is to be sent to the
ladies division of the Inter-
national Plowing Match to
assist with prizes for draws in
ladies' programs.
Mrs. C. Elliott, Mrs. M.
Steep and Mrs. R. Baker were
appointed as a nominating
committee. Mrs. A. Groves
and Mrs. J. Gibson had
charge of the program, and
Mrs. Gibson introduced the
guest speakers, Mrs. Greta
Nediger, and Mrs. Muriel
Jones who had enjoyed a trip
to Hawaii in March 1977. They
shared their experiences, the
beauty, and the historical
background of three of the
islands, Oahu, Maui, and
Hawaii, with those present. in
a most fluent and educational
manner. Due to the climate
and the beauty of these
islands they are termed a
visitor's paradise in "Aloha".,
and called the "Land of the
Golden People".
Mrs. Gibson thanked the
guest speakers for their
splendid travelogue which
everyone enjoyed. At the
close of the meeting Mrs. Lois
Elliott and her committee
served a tasty lunch.
Huronview news
Dick Roorda led the Sunday
evening song service at
Huronview sponsored by the
Clinton Christian Reform
Church.
A group of sacred singers
from the Goderich Salvation
Army Citadel under the
leadership of Lieutenant Neil
Watt visited Huronview on
Sunday afternoon and held a
service in the chapel.
Marie Flynn, Lorne
Lawson, Norman Speir and
Cecil Skinner provided the
old-time music for Monday
afternoon's program at
Huronview. Mrs, Elsie
Henderson led a sing -a -long
of favourite numbers.
The March meeting of the
Over -90 Club was held in the
first. north sitting -room at
Huronview on Wednesday
afternoon. Thirty-five
members were able to attend
the meeting and two new
members were welcomed to
the club. They are Miss Grace
Aylesworth and Mrs. Hugh
Love. Elsie- Henderson,
Norman Speir, Cecil Skinner,
Nelson Lear, Tom Walker
and Hank Green were guests
of the club and provided an
Irish musical program with
readings by Miss Jackson.
The Walkerburn Club
volunteers from Auburn
assisted with the activities
and the kitchen staff provided
the tea and cookies.
Ed. Stiles of Goderich
played an hour of organ
melodies on Thursday af-
ternoon at Huronview.
Clintonian club meets
President Pearl Cummings
opened the Clintonian Senior
Citizens meeting with a
poem, and the treasurer Viola
Lampman gave her report,
while Irene Glazier gave the
flower and card report. Some
carnations ' and sympathy
cards had been sent out; 29
hospital and 65 house 'calls
had been made to sick and
shut-ins .at home and
Huronview.
Final arrangements were
made for the card party to be
held on the afternoon of
'March 29 in the town hall.
Edna Adams, Irene Glazier
and Dorothy Brunsdon of-
fered to hold the social
committee. Esther Kendall
and Pearl Cummings are to
put the tables up.
It was discussed whether
the club would do away with
the mystery prize and charge
25 cents for lunch, but it was
decided to leave it at 15 cents
for collection and mystery
prize. The Golden Radar
Senior Citizens are donating
us their small cupborad, and
Josie •Cunningham is
presenting the Club with her
tea pot, sugar and cream
pitcher. The Club has decided
to have a cup of tea and lunch
at their meetings each month.
The Dutch auction was
taken care of by Pearl
Cummings with everyone
winning an article. Miss
Mitchell won the mystery
prize. The program consisted
of readings by Lue Falconer,
Edna Adams, Pearl Cum-
mings after which bingo was
played.
The next meeting will be
held April 6 in the town hall.

Eastern star plans party
Clinton chapter, Order of
the Eastern Star met last
Thursday with guests present
from Exeter, Blyth,
Goderich, Seaforth and
London. June Boussey and
Don Symons presided.
Goderich and Blyth chapter
officers performed during the
evening's activities.
Aileen Craig reported for
the ways and means com-
mittee. Tickets for the picture
are available from members
and K -Decorating. Tickets for
the lamp are available from
members and Shiral's
department store.
There will be a card party
in the hall Thursday, March
30 at 8:15 p.m.
The 'draw of the evening,
donated by Dorothy Shaw of
London was won by Evelyn
McCue of Goderich.
Clinton officers invited
guests of their station from
other chapters. They were all
introduced, welcomed and
presented with a memento of
the evening.

Ontario Street UCW hold pot luck supper
The evening unit of the
Ontario Street UCW met in
the ladies parlor of the church
on February 27. The evening
started with a pot luck supper
which was served by the
penny losers which was well
attended.
Phyllis Tyndall welcomed
everyone to the meeting and
read a poem which was then
followed by a hymn. The
'offering was taken and the
worship portion of the service
was in charge of Mary East's
group. A story was read by
Edna Cox and Lois Elliott led
in prayer.

Irene Roberts
Irene Rebecca Roberts, 81,
died at her home, 500 Con-
federation St., Sarnia, on
Tuesday, February 28, 1978.
Born 'in Clinton, Mrs.
Roberts resided in Sarnia
over 58 years. She was the
widow of Andrew C. Roberts.
Surviving is a daughter,
Mrs. Gordon (Vera) Smith
and a son, Morley Willis,' both
of Sarnia, 10 gra-ndchildren,
32 great grandchildren, three
great great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a
grand§on, Jack Willis.
The funeral was held from
the D.J. Robb Funeral Home
on Friday with burial at
Lakeview Cemetery.

meetings. The minutes of the
January meeting were read
and approved and the roll call
was answered by 28 mem-
bers. Helen Aiken read the
treasurer's report which was
seconded by Harriett Tyn-
dall.
The collection of pennies
was taken up and Cheryl
Trewartha and Lois Elliott
are to attend a meeting on
March 28 at 2 p.n. in the
Hospital Board Room about
Meals on Wheels. A food
forum is to be held on the

Ontario Street Church on
March 14 at 8 p.m.
It was reported that 16
home calls and 40 hospital
calls were made.
The next meeting is on
March 27 at 8 p.m. Vera
Gibbing's group will be in
charge of the worship and
Mary East's group is in
charge of the lunch.
After the meeting was
closed Marion Powell showed
slides of the mission ship,
Thomas Crosby which were
enjoyed by all the ladies. ,

Local group entertain Radars
The Clinton Golden Radars
Senior Citizens Club were
entertained by a group of
local people at their March 1
meeting in the Clinton Town
Hall.
A band made up of Marie
Flynn on the piano, Earl
Flynn on the drums, Ken Dale
and Harold Black both on the
guitars and Gary Black on the
guitar, mandolin and piano
presented an hour of varied
and enjoyable music. There
were bac id numbers, solos by
the Flynns, duets by Marie
Flynn and Gary Black and
three tap dancing numbers by
Debbie Flynn.
Vice president George
Rumball thanked the group
on behalf of the club for their
delightful entertainment.
Following the program,
Mr. Rumball conducted the
business session of the
meeting due to the absence of
the president Mary Grigg,
who is in hospital recovering
from a heart attack.
Jean Johns reported that
she had sent a flower to Mrs.
Grigg, a sympathy card to
Lorna Radford on the death of
a brother, and received a
thank you note from Beth
Millar. During the meeting,
all members signed a get well
card to be sent to Mrs. Grigg.
The secretary read a letter
received from Mrs Jeanne
Lindsay, secretary from the
Ever Young Club in Bayfield,
accepting an invitation to
join with the Golden Radars
in the Clinton Legion Hall on
Wednesday evening, April 5.
Committees appointed for
this party are: lunch, Lenore
Sutherland Vera Gibbings,
Ida Godkin, Minlue Rumball,
Margaret Fremlin; 'en-
tertainment, Ed Johns, Wat
Webster, John Deeves, Lorna
Radford, Elmer Trick.
The small cupboard no
longer in use by the club was
donated to the Clintonian
Senior Citizens group to be
used for storage of their lunch
supplies.
Two lovely articles made
by Ernie Dale; a doll cradle
and a doll bed were on
display. The Club voted to
donate the doll cradle to the
Hospital Ladies Auxiliary to
be used for a raffle. The doll
bed will be kept on hand for
the Radar's garage sale in the
spring.
