Public school seeks skates
•
There are many children at
the Vanastra Public School
who would like to try skating
but who do not have skates
that fit properly. If you have
old skates at home that you
would be prepared to either
loan to us or even better still
donate to the school - we
would make every attempt to
get as many children as
possible involved in skating.
If you are able to help,
please send the skates to
school. If you want them back
please label them with your
name and address.
On Monday, March 6th, a
very successful Kindergarten
registration was held at the
Vanastra Public School.
Many of our new pupils will
be coming to school for a
morning later in the spring to
find , out what "a day in
school" is really like.
Our dog population is again
on the increase. Please make
certain your dog is kept at
home. We do not want the
animal control officer to
impound YOUR dog!
Teens to toboggan
The VTC, otherwise known
as the Teen Club, met Friday,
February 3' at the church,
when cards and games were
played. A tobogganing party
for next Saturday afternoon
was arranged, with everyone
is to meet at the Church at
12:30 p.m. The regular
ak Friday night meeting will
take place at the Church as
usual.
It was decided that the girls
would take the babysitting
course offered by Bill Wilson,
O.P.P. and a date will be
announced next week. They
would like to thank Jeff Dixon
who came out to help us with
the Club and also Karl
Boersma, but would be
pleased to have more
volunteers.
Church has guest pastor
Sunday we welcomed Rev.
Peter Van Katwyk to lead our
service. He is the director of
the Cambridge Interfaith
Pastoral Counselling Centre.
His message was on Romans
12 entitled "Esteeming One
Another". We also wish to
thank Shirley Livingstone for
playing the piano and leading
the choir.
Next Sunday the pastor
hopes to begin a series on the
suffering of Christ. We also
hope to celebrate the "Lord's
Supper" at that time.
We also wish to thank the
new Sunday School staff.
June Jeacock is teaching the
little kids from 3-5 years;
Wanda Goulding is teaching
the grade 1 and two kids;
Fred Gale grades 3-5 and
Sharon Boersma will teach
the grade six and over class.
We hope the new staff will
enjoy their teaching and that

They stayed at Waikiki

They flew to Los Angeles
and motored up the coast, a
beautiful trip, then went
inland as far' as Peno and
Carson City. The warm wet
weather has made the grass
lush and beautifully green,
and flowers were in bloom.
When they returned Monday
night, the Taylor family had a
large Welcome Home sign up.
They had also made a
decorated cake expressing
the same sentiment.
Service
Mrs. H. VanEssen of
Exeter was the theme
speaker for the World Day of
Prayer service, which was
held in Goshen for the ladies
of the Varna -Goshen charge.
Canadian women prepared
this year's service on the
theme "Community Spirit in
Modern Living."
Mrs. VanEssen said that
while there are many people
who do good community
work, Christian women have
something special to offer to
the community. In their in-
volvement with the people
around them, they must
remember to proclaim their
faith in some way. She
recommended the second
chapter of Philippians as an
excellent guideline for
community living.
Geraldine Eckel led the
prayer service, and a trio of
Elva Peck, Linda Linfield
and Noreen Hayter. sang
"Don't Forget to Frau."
A dessert euchre is planned
for Wednesday afternoon,
April 19. The April program
committee has invited Mr.
and Mrs. Gordon Erb to show
pictures and speak to the
members about their trip to
visit their daughter in
Afghanistan.
