The Goderich detachment of the OPP
explained that the truck. owned by Glen
Dale Brindley Saltford. was found in
flames near Jack Mavhe 's farm in
Go:de-rich Township about 9: 30 p .rn .

responded to the call and Fire Chief
Clarence Neilans said that he found a 40 -
ounce vinegar liottle near the truck
which smelled of petroleum fuel. He also
noted that the same strong odour was

It nice to go away again, bin it's
en nicer to come home again
That's my sentiments after a four-day
stay m Toronto at the annual Ontario
Weekly Newspaper's Association's
convention at the plush (and I mean
plush I Hotel Toronto
The
whole four days proved to be
stimulating. entertaining. and
exhausting for me and many of my
peers from across the province. It
gives all of us a chance to review what
we've been doing for that last year_
and a chance to cry or la ugh on each
others shoulders about the ritwspaper
business
Believe it or not, one can also learn
la great deal at conventions. and some
of the ideas I picked up there may
eventually show up in the News -
R ecord. as we struggle to keep Mir
paper modern. effident_ and most of
a - informative• _
I. along with several dozen other
weekly newspaper editors.
publishers. and their families. had a
chance last Thursday to take a quick
tour of the Legislature. bear the
shenanigans during question period.
and spend a hall hour each with
Premier William Davis and
Opposition leader Stuart Smith and a
few of the backbenchers.
Preinier Davis didn't recall.. or at
least he didn't show it. any knowledge
of all theme nasty things I said about
him in the Newsgecord during the
hospital dosing crisis. so he was
warm and friendly to all of us_
There seems to be a very easy truce
between Davis' minority government
and the Liberal and NDP opposition
parties. so don't look for a provincial
election. at least this year.
Our group were also treated royally

with free coffee and chit-chat after

to the top of the CN tower_ the world's
tallest free standing structure_ on
Saturday morning. just as the sun was
coming up.
The glass enclosed elevators whir' h

were enough to waken - even the
drowsiest editcrrs.
From the top. we could see nearly
40 miles in every (Erection. and from
1,4 feet. even the tallest cffToronto"s
