Seniors 'variety night packs hall
"Fantastic, wonderful,
very enjoyable and most
thoughtful" were words
described by the seniors who
attended the senior citizens
night, Saturday evening in
the Community Centre,
sponsored by the Lioness
Club.
A packed community
centre heard Wendy Penhale
read a story entitled "Miss
Dorothy Entertains the
Minister"; Lisa Taman,
accompanied by her mother,
Rose, favoured with step -
dancing ; an0 the Bedard
Family of OR 2, Zurich,
Gerard, Mary Margaret,
Charles and Elizabeth sang,
played musical instruments,
and were a delightful group of
young people.
The Cubs and Scouts each
presented skits and the
Brownies sang several
numbers. Elmer Trick of
Clinton in his inimitable style,
played several piano solos;
Debbie Siertsema. step -
danced ; Michael Clark sang
and accompanied himself on
the guitar; and The Lions
Good Time Band then lead a
sing song of many old
favourites.
The program ended with
the senior citizens square
dancing with senior president
Harry Baker as the caller and
the Good Time band
providing the music, after
which the Lioness served a
lovely lunch.
Students comment on strike
Word has it that the Huron
County secondary students
will be out of classes until the
middle of March. Wondering
what the students thought of
the situation, this writer
decided to seek out some of
them and ask their opinions.
Most of those interviewed
felt that the students were not
well enough informed; they
all hoped the strike would be
settled very soon; and the
students should not be locked
out,they should be allowed to
go to school to study.
Basically, they felt that the
teachers were thinking more
of the student's welfare than
the board was, but the
teachers' decision to strike
ultimately effects the
students, so feelings were
mixed as to what the
teachers' motives really
were. They felt that if the
strike went on very long and
too much class room time
was lost, the students would
begin to hate the teachers and
so would the parents and thus
the pupils and parents would
be pitted against the teachers
and on the side of the Board.
They also felt too that the
board could not give in to

Baptist church news
By Bonnie Talbot
On February 26, Pastor Les
Shiel from Tillsonburg filled
the pulpit for both the Adult
Sunday School Hour and for
the morning worship service.
Pastor Shiel opened his
sermon with Scripture
reading from Revelation Ch.
11 vs. 1-14. He pointed out the
fact that Revelation is the
only book in the Bible that a
believer is promised a
blessing just for reading it.
Pastor Shiel went on to talk
about the Existence of God;
The Love of God and finally
The Salvation of God. The

Sung Mattins was observed
in Trinity Anglican Church,
Sunday morning, with the
Rector, Rev. William M.
Bennett in charge. Dr.
Grosvenor Shepherd read the
lesson from Hebrews, for the
third Sunday in Lent.
Sunday next "Mothering
Sunday" will be observed in
Trinity with a combined
service for members of
Trinity and St. James,
Middleton. A social time will
be held after the service in
the Parish Hall where the
congregations will partake of
the specially baked Simnel
Cake, thus reviving an -old
tradition in the Anglican
Communion.

If love conquers all, how
come Valentine's Day isn't a
three-day weekend holiday?
"Existence of God" can be
seen in Psalm 19 as God
speaks to us first thru nature
and secondly thru scripture.
The "Love of God" is ex-
pressed in John 3:16 and John
4-7 where we find God is Love.
The Salvation of God is seen
in I Timothy 2-5 where it
states there is One God and
one mediator between man
and God. The mediator is
Jesus Christ. The service was
closed very appropriately
with the singing of "Room At
The Cross for You" and
prayer.
Pastor Shiel also returned
for the evening worship
' service to share with us the
message the Holy Spirit had
laid on his heart.
every request by the
teachers, because as they
cxplai'ned it, this is a
unionized society, and let's
try and stop it someplace.
e Maybe this is the place to try
and curb some of the
demands and both give in at
least a little and let students
get back into the class rooms
and get on with their
education.
Basically pretty sound
judgement from the group of
young people I talked to.
Maybe they need some of
these young adults on the
negotiating team.
