Goderich Township rec news
Mr. Randy Smith,
member of the Goderich
recreation council was a
special guest in attendance at
the Feb. 15 meeting of
Goderich township
recreation. He brought
greetings from the Goderich
group and offered any
assistance that may be
required in the future.
A prepared .sports budget
was presented by the sports
committee and was accepted
by the whole recreation
council.
Alice Porter will be in
charge of tickets for the next
township dance at the White
Carnation on March 25.
An offer was received from
Walter Bell who wishes to
provide team sweaters for his
girls' softball team, who last
year won the trophy. It was
decided that if any other
business or person wishes to
buy sweaters for other teams
they should contact Art Bell
immediately so that all
sweater orders could be made
at the same time. The colours
will be green with white
lettering, the township name
on front and the sponsor's
name on back.
A lively discussion followed
on how to promote the
distribution and wearing of
the township crests. Several
recreation members took
bundles of crests to distribute
in the immediate locality.
It is also hoped a special 1/ -
hour promotion by the
recreation council may be
allowed at the Holmesville
school some noon hour. It's
important that everyone
wears a crest especially this
year. Our reeve Gerry Ginn is
county warden and we'll all
be ready to go to the plowing
match!
It is hoped that one of the
first signs of spring in the
township will be the levelling
of the ground at the proposed
new township athletic field in
Holmesville.
Watch for it; there should
be some interesting
developments take place this
year.
Hufle Happenings
Poker rally
On Friday, February 10th,
the grade six class went on a
poker rally to a nearby bush.
The children travelled by
snowshoes or by skis.
The pupils wrapped their
lunches in tin foil and cooked
the food over an open fire.
The class had to find cards
placed in the bush and also
had an hour of free -time.
The class had a wonderful
time.
Volleyball
On February 16, the school
volleyball teams played
exhibiton games against
Holmesville Public School.
Each team played two
games.
The total score for the boys'
-games were 28 to 16 for
Hullett. The total score of the
girls' games were 28 to 16 for
Holniesville. Both teams
played very well.
Valentines parties
On February 14th, many
classes in the school held
Valentines parties. The
grades 1 and 2 baked small
candies and the grade fours
had to bring a lunch and
share it with a friend.
The students gave out
valentines and everyone
enjoyed the cookies and other
candies.
Nurses return
On February 14, the dental
nurses once again returned to
brush the students' teeth.
They had to do some of the
grades on the Junior sides
who had missed it before.
Another group of nurses
also carne on. the 14. These
nurses were administering
vaccinations for polio. The
students certainly,, had a
healthy Valentines day.
Constable Wilson
On February 15, Constable
Wilson of the O.J?.P. came to_
Hullett. tie showed a film to
the whole school and then
answered questions.
The film was about
juveniles and theft. He talked
to the grade 7 and 8's together
and then went to the other
