No matter how much times may change and customs vary, the expression of love, faith, and trust found in the wedding ceremony is a constant source of inspiration. Even with the current trend toward alternate life- styles that do not involve the commitment of marriage, statistics prove that marriages are as popular as ever, and there has been an increase in the 70's in people "tying the knot." Today's couples have more opportunities than ever to enrich this vital ceremony of life with their own personal expressions, and make their wedding truly the most meaningful event of their lives. Gone are the days of the standard -looking brid- al gown, the days when Lohengrin was the only bridal march to be heard, the days when couples had little choice but to promise to love, honor and obey — even though they felt there was so much more to be said. The clergy and marriage counselors alike now en- courage couples to find the music and words for their wedding ceremony which truly express what they feel for each other and their future together. •If they decide that the traditional bridal. chorus and church vows are just what they want, that's fine. But in their search they will have gained from the rewarding experience of creating a joint defini- tion of their own future plans. This new freedom to modify, ,even break away from the traditional, car- ries through to the dress, reception plans, gift giv- ing and honeymoon styles of today's newlyweds. Color is appearing in today's wedding dresses, dresses which may vary from very formal to short and simply smashing, from frilly and laced to tailored and sleek. Receptions range from simple tea and cake gath- erings to exotic banquets — even sit-down dinners — with all kinds of new and different delicacies; but whatever the budget and size, all is done with a special personal flair. Guests are spending more time in the selection of a gift for the newly - wedded couple, concen- trating on individuality and seeking out presents that are true reflections of the new couple's life- style. • All in all, the key word for today's wedding is personal, with all the em- phasis placed on making each and every aspect of the wedding ceremony a vital expression of the two distinct personalities who have decided to make that most loving and giving of commitments. It is a delightful occa- sion for all involved, and should reflect both the joy and dignity which have always marked this special ceremony of life. Land of milk and boneymoons... an oasis of comfort and delight Invitations and menus, flowers and photogra- phers, fittings and hair- dresser — the list of prep- arations for what can fre- quently be the most beau- tiful day in one's life is a long one. No less attention is due to what should be the most beautiful vacation in one's life. To get married life off to a good start, the newly married couple should have privacy, comfort, lovely and possibly inter- esting surroundings, good food, glorious weather and maybe a few other acces- sories that many resorts can provide not only to honeymooners but also to bachelors and families. Choice choices The prospective couple is faced with an almost overwhelming choice — Bournemouth or Budapest, Grindelwald or Guade- loupe, Hebrides or Hawaii, Las Palmas or Las Vegas, Teheran or Tenerif, Yo- kohama or Yosemite — enough to send them back to geography class, or at least .to their travel agent. For Jewish couples the matter becomes a simple one as soon as they add one -more location to their geographic shopping list — I,srael. If they place Israel at the head of their list, they may want to dispense with drawing one up altogether, because the points in Is- rael's favor are so obvious. (Of course, you don't have to be Jewish to honeymoon in Israel!) Whither away? Just check off the points on the list — this time the honeymoon requirements list. Privacy — as much as you want. You're away from friends and relations, unless you have relatives in Israel. Comfort — the choice is yours, from luxurious re- sort hotels through medi- um class modern hotels and attractive kibbutz guest houses to bungalow - type holiday' villages. East meets west The bill of fare proves Kipling wrong -@ here East and West meet, and the twain can frequently be found in the very same restaurant. The typical Is- rael breakfast room wel- comes you in the morning with a sideboard groaning . under a display of fruit juices, eggs, kippers, a va- riety of hard and soft cheeses, salads, yogurts and sour cream, toast, rolls and bread, jams and pos- sibly some other tidbits that have been overlooked here. The average restaurant combines European cuisine with a nod to the Orient in the form of Shashlik, kebab and humus. The better establishments po- larize either to the best of French and Italian cu- linary art or to the more exotic delights of the Mid- dle East. Endless delights Surroundings — you merely 'take your choice. The three S's (sun, sea and sand) dominate the Mediterranean coast, where a string of resorts — Ashkelon, Herzliya, Ne- tanya, Shavei Zion, Naha- riya, Ahziv — sing their siren song to seduce the wayfarer looking for 're- pose. As for the element that can make or break a hon- eymoon: the weather. No danger on this count; in Israel you can outwit it. Weather or not In spring, summer and autumn you stay with the sea breeze on the Medi- terranean or in the cool mountain air; in winter you go down below sea level to Tiberias, or way down to winterless, rain- less Eilat on the Red Sea. No matter when you set the happy date, you'll find honeymoon weather some- where in Israel. You may also find it the most excit- ing travel experience of your married life.
