The president, Mrs. W. Colclough, occupied the chair. Mrs. Leona Lockhart, read the minutes of the last regular meeting and presented the treasurer's report. She announced that the annual fees had been sent in to the District of Huron West, also a donation to the Children's Aid Bursary of • Huron County. Notice was received that a Bursary of $3000 had been set up at the University of Guelph to be called the Roy Jewell fund. The interest of $500 per year to be presented to a student at the O.A.C. with the highest proficiency. The Women's Institute Officer's Conference will be held at Waterloo College on May 2-4, 1978. Executive members are asked to remember the district executive meeting to be held in Dungannon United Church on Monday, April 3. The leadership Training School sponsored by the home economics service depart- ment of agriculture and food offering "Personalize your Pattern", seniors training school will be held in the Parish Hall of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Clinton on February 23 and 24. The leaders will be Mrs. G. Smith and Mrs. K. Kroesen. Plans were made to sponsor the Huronview Auxiliary birthday party for residents on February 15 when 27 ladies and gentlemen of the home will be treated to birthday treats and presented with gifts to mark the occasion by WI members. Program conveners are Mrs. Leona Lockhart and Mrs. E. Radford. Life membership dues in the Women's Institute will rise to $40 after March 31. There is some talk that an "Agricultural Hall of Fame" - may be established in Ontario. The program theme for the day was on "Resolutions" and the convener Mrs. Muriel Grigg was in charge of same. Mrs. Grigg introduced the guest speaker Mrs. Wm. Porter, board member, who spoke very enthusiastically and interestingly on the subject of "Resolutions". She said, "many of our laws have been derived from WI members sending in resolutions which have progressed from branch to district, to area and on to provincial or federal level Some are rejected, while many are retained and often bring about positive and helpful changes. Resolutions are for better living. At the close of the meeting the WI grace was sung and Mrs. O. Popp and her com- mittee served tasty refresh- ments. Ontario St. unit meets The January meeting of Ontario Street evening unit was held recently in the ladies' parlour with 24 ladies present. Helen Aiken welcomed everyone and read a poem. The devotions were in charge of the 1977 executive. Helen Aiken gave a reading "The New Year", scripture was read by Edna Wheeler followed by prayer by Helen. The offering was taken up and a skit "Hasty In Judgement" was put on by Helen Aiken, Edna Wheeler and Marianne Colclough. The minutes of the December meeting as well as the annual reports were read and approved. The roll call was answered by the paying of fees. There were 14 home calls and 37 hospital calls made since last meeting. Helen Aiken thanked all who had helped her for the last two years when she was Unit Leader. The new unit leader, Phyllis Tyndall, took over. The new secretary. is Marianne Colclough and new treasurer is Helen Aiken_ The business consisted of a number of ladies to go to the Huron Perth UCW meeting on January 24 in Mitchell and the congregational meeting on Wednesday night January 25. February 19 will be the Ladies' Centennial service with Mrs_ Stewart Minor of Exeter at guest speaker. It was learned that the penny winners were the ladies from A to L and that the loosen M to Z would serve the winners a pot luck supper on February 27, the regular meeting night. The new penny leaders are Nina Inkley and Shirley Elliott. The new card convener is Marlene Forbes. Phyllis Tyndall handed out program cards for the next year and the meeting closed with the Mispah Benediction and lunch was served by Phyllis Tyndall's group which brought a very enjoyable evening to a close. Clintonian club The Clintonian Senior Citizen meeting was held on February 2 in the Town Hall with a good attendance. The President, Pearl Cummings opened the meeting with a poem. and the treasurer, Viola Lampman gave the financial report. Irne Glazier presented the flower and card report saying that 25 hospital and 35 home calls had been made to sick and shutins..., ' _ _ The roll call was answered by telling the. monthand date of your birthday. It was brought up about a card party and was decided to have one March 29 in the afternoon. Jessie Jones won the mystery prizes. The program consisted of readings' by Lou Falconer and Viola Lampman, card bingo was also played. The next meeting will be March 2 in the Town Hall at 2, everyone welcome. Lou Falconer and Mayme Gla- are to- bring articles for the Dutch auction. Meeting closed with the Benediction. LorUle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bev McClinchey of Bayfield and Robert J. Gould, son of Dr. George and Mrs. Gould of Calgary, Alberta, were united in marriage in a ceremony in Regina.Saskatchewan on Tuesday, January 17, 1978. John and Beth Evers of Regina and formerly of Peterborough, Ontario attended the couple. Robert (Bob) will be remembered in this area as a salesman for J.M. Schneider meat products of Kitchener before his transfer to Regina. The young couple is residing at lel Meadow Way, Regina, Sask. well-known citizen dies Mary Ellen Andrews One of Clinton's well-known citizens, Mary Ellen Andrews died in Clinton Public Hospital on Tuesday, January 31_ She was in her 88th year_ Mrs. Andrews was best known for her service and work in the Wesley -Willis United Church in Clinton. She was the first woman elder of the church and an honorary life member of the session.. She was also the president of the UCW group. Mrs_ Andrews was born on September 31, 1891 in Innisfil Township, Simcoe County to Byard and Mary Ann Hill, In 1911 she married Francis Wm_ Andrews of Clinton and the couple lived 'in Clinton_ She worked at the Dougherty organ factory for years. She is predeceased by her husband, who died in 1973 and is also predeceased by one son Charles and one daughter Mrs_ Art (Ruda) Griffiths_ Mrs. Andrews is survived by four daughters: Mrs. Jack (Mary) Murch, Clinton; Mrs. Grant (Jean) Rath, London: Mrs_ Bob (Norma) Draper, Clinton; Mrs_ Grover (Joyce) Clare, Gananoque_ She is also survived by five sons: Homer, Clinton: •Douglas, Ilderton: Don, Clinton; William, Toronto: Richard, Oakville. Mrs- Andrews is also survived by 31 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren_ Funeral services were held at the Beattie Funeral Home in Clinton on Friday, February 3 with Rev. John Oestreicher in charge. Interment followed in the Clinton Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mel Webster, Bert Gliddon, Bell Jenkins, Joe Gibson. Fred Gibson and Cale Doucette_ Ada Elva Dewar Ada Elva Dewar off Bayfield died in Clinton Public Hospital on Sunday. January 29 following a heart failure- She was in her 92nd year. .; She was born in Stanley Township on April 6, 1885 to John and Sarah Watson. In 1902 she married David C. Dewar in Bayfield. The couple lived in Stanley Township until 1917 then moved to Bayfield. In 1952 the Dewars ceelebra tedtheir 50th wedding anniversary. Hers was a life of service to her family and her friends_ Mrs. Dewar is predeceased by her husband and one daughter, Mrs- E. (Anna) Rehn and is survived by one daughter Mrs. William (Elva) Metcalf of Bayfield and two sons David and James, both of Toronto_ She is also survived by her brother John of Clinton and her sisters, Mrs- P. (Nell) Cleave of Zurich and Mrs. R. Bessie) Gillard of St_ Thomas- Mrs. Dewar is predeceased by her brothers Robert., James and Fred and her sisters Mrs.. Sarah Sheardown and- Mrs_ Ethel Mossop_ Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 311 with Rev_ J. Reddock in charge. assisted by Rev. Golden Radars to invite Bayfield club The Golden Radars Seer citizens Club of Clinton decided at their regular meeting on Wednesday, February I to invite the Bayfield Club to join them on April 5_ John Dee i es was asked to check whether the Clinton Legion facilites would be available on t date_ President Mary Grigg conducted the business portion of the meeting and all reports were given and ap- proved_ It was reported that 36 members and two visitors were present at the meeting which was held at the Clinton Town Hall_ Jean Johns reportedlhat a sympathy card was sent to Margaret Fremlin on the death of her aunt Mrs_ Woon_ A get well card was sent to Edna Mote and a carnation was sent to her while she was still in hospital_ A carnation was also sent to Lillian Jamieson_ Jessie Jones thanked the club for the kindness shown her t. -h i ie she was in the hospital_ Speaking for the Star Membership, Ottilie Rowden again urged all members to pay their fees so that the Golden Radars can become an All Star Club„ and help to support the USCO who so diligently work for seniors, The committee in charge of the entertainment were Percy and Vera G ibbings, Olive Ball and Gladys Hoggarth_ Mrs- Hoggarth acted as the MC. Ida Godkin gave a very interesting tam on Robbie Burns' life and bad a picture of the man and some el his hones_ Sheshowed the club a very old book which con- tained the story of his life and an his poems and letters_ At intervals in her talk Mrs.. Godkin read appropriate poems written by Burns_ At the conclusion of her talk. the club members joined in singing Auld Lang Syne accompanied by the Web- sters.
