There were nine tables in play, with winners: lone hands, Dora Shobbrook; high, Margaret Taylor; low, Gloria McEwing; men's lone hands, Ted Hunking; high, Wilfred Shortreed; low, Lorne Hunking; having most zero's, Bert Shobbrook. There will be another card party this Friday, February 10th at 8:30 p.m. In charge will be Romona Jamieson, Hattie Snell and Isabel Colson. Personals Lawrence Taylor was in Toronto the past week as a delegate to the Ontario soil and crop improvement association annual meeting. . Bradley Lyon had the misfortune to fracture his collar bone while playing hockey on Friday night. Mr. and Mrs. Mac Sewers of Barrie spent Wednesday night with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lear and visited other friends in the community. Mrs. Ross Millson, Sarah, Sheryl and friend Sue Rasnan of Woodstock spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Bert Shobbrook, David and Patricia spent the weekend with Frank and Dorie Ellerby, Clinton. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Andrews, Brenda and Nancy, Toronto spent Thursday to Saturday with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Wood and at- tended the funeral of Bill's mother, Mrs. Frank Andrews, Clinton on Friday. Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Durnin were Mr. Ewin Kerslake and Craig of Woodham, on Saturday, and on Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Russ Wann, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Weber and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kerslake of Exeter. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Anderson, Jane and Mary Lou returned home from spending two weeks in Florida. Spending two weeks with Mr. and Mrs. John Pollard are her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Glover and Malcolm from PEI. Mr. Cliff Saundercock returned home on Monday, January 30th from spending five days in Clinton hospital having surgery on leg veins. Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Saun- dercock spent Wednesday and Thursday with their daughter Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Peck and Kelly, St. Thomas. 4-H news Any interested girls bet- ween the ages of 12 and 26 are invited to join the spring 4-H project entitled "Focus on Living". Hullett to advertise for gravel tenders The regular meeting of Hullett Township Council was held • in the Londesboro Community Hall with all members present. Mr. Pickell .of Donnelly and Murphy and Mr. Saraphim, the property owner, were present to discuss the proposed subdivision in Auburn. Motion No. 1 by Joe Gibson and. Joe Hunking: - that the minutes be adopted for the meeting of January 9th. Carried. Motion No. 2 by Joe Hunking and Tom Cun- ningham: - move that we withhold building permits 'mtil a later date. Carried. Motion No.' 3 by Torn Cunningham and Joe Hunking: - that we approve severances on Lot 8, Maitland Block; Lot 24, Con. 10, and Lot 1 & 2, Con. 8 of Hullett Township and that we have no objections to severance on Lot 42, Con. 1, E. Wawanosh. We recommend written agreement on line fences on severances in Hullett Township. Carried. Motion No. 4 by Greg Brandon and Joe Gibson: - that we approve the Fidelity Insurance Policy held by Frank Cowan Company as required under Section 233 M.A. Carried. Motion No. 5 by Greg Brandon and Tom Cun- ningham: - that we accept the letter from E.H. Uderstadt with regards the Medd Drain, and set the Court of Revision for March 6, 1978 at 3 p.m. Carried. A letter from the Seaforth Fire Area Board was read announcing. the. registration of Mr. Don Hulley as fire chief and the appointment of Mr. Harry Hak. Motion No. 6 by Joe Hunking and Joe Gibson: - that we amend By-law 77 - 13 replacing Don Hulley as fire chief with Mr. Harry Hak effective Feb." 1, 1978. Carried. A resolution from the County of Grey for councils . consideration was presented - "That the Minister of Education be asked to con- sider restructuring the present system of local boards of education." Motion No. 7 by Greg Brandon and Joe Gibson: - that we do not endorse the resolution put forth by Gray County. Carried. Motion No. 8 by Joe Gibson and Tom Cunningham: - that we give the Huron County Plowman's Association $50 for 1978 and the Huron Cenf al"'Agricultural Society $150 for 1978. Carried. Motion No. 9 by Tom Cunningham and Greg Brandon: - that we refund taxes on 636 A's on Roll No. 938 & Roll No. 1115. Carried. Motion No. 10 byJoe Gibson and Greg Brandon: - that we do not take the service calls for the copier machine of $140 per year. Carried. - Motion No. 11 by Joe Gibson and Joe Hunking: - that we notify the M.T.C. we are still interested in proceeding with the construction on the new shed. Carried. Motion No. 12 by Greg Brandon and Joe Hunking: - that we instruct the road superintendent to advertise for gravel tenders, 1800 yds., to be in clerks hands by Friday, Mar. 3, 1978 at 5 p.m. Carried. Motion No. 13 by Joe Gibson and Greg Brandon: - that the accounts be passed and paid as read. Carried. - Motion No. 14 by Joe Hunking and Tom Cun- ningham: - that we adjourn to meet again on Mar. 6, 1978 at 1 p.m. Carried. Madill defeated in safety contest "What symbol appears on the side of an extinguisher to be used on a.chemical fire?" "Name three precautions to be taken in the safe operation of a fork-lift truck." "What temperature must the stuffing in fowl reach during cooking, for safety?" Such questions formed the Inter -Regional competition of the School Safety Awareness Program conducted last week at the Board of Education offices ° in Clinton by the Industrial Accident Preventior>`Association. The Wingham school had won entry to this competition by previously defeating teams from other Huron County schools. • In the first round, Huron Park Secpndtlry School of Woodstock defeated the other Woodstock representative, College Avenue. The F.E. Madill team of Jerry Bremner, Harold Davidson, Graham Rutherford and Don Thacker eliminated Huron Park in round two. The third contest was a back -and -forth score from start to finish. The final score was F.E. Madill Secondary School - 26, Saunders Secondary School, London, 27. Saunders will proceed to the next level of the provincial competition. L.B. Graham, Champion Road Machinery, Goderich acted as moderator for the contests. Judges were: Bill Hanula, Electrohome, Wingham; Duncan Waters, Dominion Chain, Stratford; Austin Bettridge and Stephen G, May, I.A.P.A., Toronto.
