Clinton has lost Doctor
Thompson, a well-known and
respected gentleman who
ministered to the medical
needs of his community and
whose kindness went far
beyond the mere duty line.
Our sincere condolences go
out to Mrs. Thompson and her
family.
Here in the News -Record
office we feel we have a
personal link. Our sub-
scription and classified
specialist, Freda McLeod,
has the distinction of being
one from the first set of twins
delivered by Doctor Thom-
pson in Clinton. In
recognition, she was named
"Freda" after the "Fred" in
the doctor's name. Her twin
sister, Roberta Clements,
now resides in Owen Sound.

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
If you'll be my valentine,
Then I'll love you.
These poetic words often have little meaning for people
today. They are often thought of as nonsensical little
rhymes and the sugar-coated sentimentality, typical of
Valentine's Day has been forgotten.
In elementary school, Valentine's Day was a great
event. It was one sure way of testing your popularity by
the number of cards that sat on -your desk and it was
finally a chance to tell that cute boy in the next row that
you'd like to "burst his bubble',,' be the "apple of his
eye."
However, by the time the teenage years rolled around,
the boxes of 30 punch -out cards had disappeared and
anyone suspected of celebrating Valentitle:s Day would
beautomatically shunned by his peers an&called a sissy.
By this age, even the hot little Valentine Hearts that
always turned your tongue red had lost their appeal and
the most emotional message one could receive would be,
"Let's fool around tonight, my parents will be out of
sight."
This sweet, warm day that has been set aside for lovers
and those poor unfortunates who are dying to get their
hands on a lover is now becoming obsolete.
Aside from the predictable boxes of chocolates and
bouquets of flowers, Valentine's Day is largely ignored
by many, probably because it doesn't offer many
material gains. .
Although it is a day to tell your loved ones how much
you appreciate them, in our modern society many feel
that there's not much to gain from such emotional
displays.
Unlike Christmas, there's no generous supply of gifts
to collect and it can' compare to the parties and midnight
kisses at New Year's Eve. It doesn't give us a holiday
like Canada Day
Someho.w, I feel that people have forgotten how to care
or at least ppenly show it, and now February 14 is no
more important than February 13 or 15.
In our world so full of discontent and hatred, there
should be more days like February 14 and people should
learn to open up and say that they like each other.
However until they learn to do this an appropriate
Valentine message should be,
February 14th I think of you,
Although you're not my birthday,
I guess's 'box'ofLaura Secords will do.

I love her very dearly but
there is just no way that the

any more of this.
Any suggestions?
We were pleased to contact
a -local A.A. member on your

got in touch with another lady
with the same serious health
problem as your wife's. Since
then, according to you, your
wife has attended several A.A.

We wish her continued good

the future for all of you will he
