A Gospel Hymn Sing was
held. Louise McGregor was
the organist and Ruth
Shaddick was the choir
leader.
Rev. McDonald installed
•the UCW executive:
president, Helen Lawson;
second vice president, Gail
Lear; secretary, Nona Pipe;
treasurer, Margaret Good;
program convener, Margaret
Anderson. First vice.
president Edythe Beacom
was unable to be present.
The junior and kin-
dergarten teachers were
Irene Bromley, Ruthann
Penfound, Marguerite Gross
and Barbara Knox.
The next church service
will be March 5. Rev.
McDonald is on holidays and
church members are asked to
contact Rev. John
Oestreicher of Clinton's
Wesley Willis United Church
if a minister is needed.
Annual congregational
meeting
There was an excellent
attendance at the pot luck
dessert on Monday night,
January 23.
Rev. McDonald welcomed
wall and asked blessing. After
lunch a sing song of old
familiar hymns were sung
with Louise McGregor at the
piano.
Rev. McDonald read a
poem and led in prayer. The
children then. retired to the
auditorium where films were
shown with Wayne Hulley at
the projector.
It was moved that Hattie
Wood be recording secretary,
to accept the agenda as
printed and to give all
adherents present voting
privileges.
Rev. McDonald conducted
the business of the meeting. A
panel discussion on the
reports of 1977 was held.
Gary Jewitt reported that
the Sunday School had 98'
children registered with. a
good average attendance.
Two family crokinole parties,
and a skating party were held
over the year and =a special
pageant and Christmas
eice were held. Jewitt also
mended the teachers for
their work.
Helen Lawson reported that
the UCW sponsored Gail
Lear's music recital. They
also sent Florence Cartwright
to Westminster for a weekend
in May and Marjorie Duizer
and Joan Whyte went to Alma
College in August.
Along with that, the UCW
sponsored a foster child, gave.
donations to Elaine Town-
shend and helped to support a
medical student in Nepal.
Donations were also given to
ARC Industries, Camp
Menestung and others.
Allen Bosman reported for
the Stewards who now have
eavestroughing installed on
the church roof. He thanked
the volunteer helpers) on the
painting of the church and
also thanks were given to the
caretakers - Lena Nesbitt,
Carl and family.
The treasurer's report was
giyen by Trudy Pollard. She
eXpressed her thanks to last
year's treasurer Harry Lear
•for his help.
Mrs. Margaret Whyte
" reported for the session. She
thanked the choir leader,
organist, junior choir leaders,
pianist, greeters and ushers.
She noted that there is a
"membership of 459 and 14
baptisms, 20 marriages and
13: burials took place over the
year.
Gordon Shobbrook reported
for the official board. They
are planning to ibnstall a
telephone. Inthe
congregational life and work
there are: Messengers, 28
members; Explorers, 18.
members ; Cubs, 27 mem-
bers; Scouts, I2 members and
•
the CGIT a small group.
The Cubs and Scouts are
badly in need of volunteer
adult leaders.
The nominating committee
reported that the session for
the next five years are Bert
Lyon, Nelson McClure,
Gordon Shobbrook, and Jack
Tamblyn. Ken Pollard and
David Lear are serving two
year terms. The Stewards for
three years are Bill Bromley,
Melvin Knox, Robertr Trick,
Glenn McGregor. The church
trustee for a five year term is
Lloyd Pipe and Raymond
Kennedy is the manse trustee
for the next four years.
The auditors are Mrs.
Norman Alexander and Jim
Jamieson. The represen-
tatives to the Presbytery are
Laura Forbes, Norman
Alexander and alternate
Edythe Beacom.
Helen Lee, Elwood Mit-
chell, Fern McClure and Mrs.
Jim Scott Sr., are on the
manse committee and Bev
Riley and Laura Scott are on
the congregational life and
work committee.
Emerson Hesk, Jean
Leiper, Laura Lyon, Clara
Riley, and Helen Alexander
are on the Bible Society and
the anniversary committee is
made up of Dennis Penfound,
the UCW president, the
• organist and the choir leader.
The Bible Society receipts
came to $343 and the Mission
and Services objective for
1978 is $530.
Nick Whyte,. on behalf of
the congregation moved a
vote of thanks to Rev. .
McDonald for his dedicated
leadership and for his un-
tiring work in the community
as well. A standing ovation
was given by everyone. The
meeting then closed with a
hymn and prayer. UCW
names executive.

On January 24 Norman
Alexander attended the
Municipal ,Drain
Management and Water
Quality seminar at the
Ridgetown College of
Agricultural Technology,
sponsored by the Kent County
Federation of Agriculture on
January 26 and 27. He was at
the meeting of the Ontario
Farm Drainage Association
in London.
Mr. and Mrs. John Radford
returned home on Saturday
night after spending a 10 -day
vacation in the Barbados.

Award.
WI News
The next WI meeting will be
held on February 8 at 8 p.m.
since the January meeting
was cancelled. The January
program will follow along
with the topic and lunch.
The WI card party. which
was cancelled on Friday,
January 27 is rescheduled for
Friday, February 3 at 8:30
p.m. The same committee
will be in charge.

Church News
Let's hope the weather man
can co-operate this week, The
annual vestry meeting of St.
James Church, MIddleton
will be at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Don Middleton at 8 pm.
Ladies bring sandwiches.
The ACW of St. James is
sponsoring a bus trip to the
fainous Ice Capades in Kit-
chener on March 9. Tickets
are moving well wouldn't you
like to join in? Call Blanche,

Personals
Mrs. Corneles Brand has
just completed her two days
at the 4-11 school in Seaforth
and will be a leader in
Holmesville 1I. Girls wishing
to join must be 12 years old by
March 1. Interested girls call
Mrs. Brand at 482-7552.
With the weather the way it
has been, many things "have
been cancelled and ners is
short, so let's hope for better
days ahead. Our snow plow
operators sure did a good job
for' trying to keep our roads
open.
