Colts downed by Mitchell
The Mitchell Red Devils
skated away with a smooth
win over the Clinton Colts in
Blyth on Saturday, January
29, when they beat the Clinton
team 6-3.
The Red Devils quickly
jumped ahead in the first
period leaving the score at
the end of the first, 2-0.
In the second period, the
Colts were able to get on the
board with a goal by Dave
McClure, assisted by Dave
Archibald. However, the Red
• Devils finished the period on
top by scoring two ' more
goals.
In the third period the Colts
closed the gap with two goals.
At 7:13 Harvey Carter slipped
the puck past the Red Devils
goaltender with the assist
going to Rob Mayer. Some
2:07 later, Ron Brown popped
one in with the help of Bruce
Lyndon for the Colts.
Mitchell then came back
again at the 11:53 and once
again at 17:30 to take two
more goals and to end the
game.
Clinton received 12 minutes
in penalties while Mitchell
received•14.
The ;game that was
scheduled last Thursday
evening in Palmerston was
cancelled due to the bad
weather.
In upcoming games the
Colts were scheduled to play
in Brussels on. Tuesday,
January 31. Drayton will be in
Clinton for a match on
Thursday, February 2, at 8
pm. and on Sunday, February
5 the Colts will travel to
Drayton for another game.
Game time is set for 2 pm.
Weather disrupts tourney
Stormy winter . weather,
which last year cancelled the
Bantam hockey tournament,
played havoc with the
schedule last weekend, and as
a result, four championship
games will have to be played
this Sunday, February 5.
Because of poor driving
conditions, all of last Friday
night's -games had to be
rescheduled, while several
other distant out-of-town
teams couldn't even make it
and substitute teams had to
come in.
In "AAA" action on the
weekend, Waterloo . won the
championship when they beat
Stratford 3-1 in the final.
Waterloo had reached the
final by beating Guelph 3-0
and 2-1, while Stratford ad-
vanced by dumping London
Minor twice by identical 4-1
scores.
In "A" action, Shoreline
meets Hespeler this Sunday
at 12:30 for the championship.
Moore Township will battle
Hanover in the "B" cham-
pionship this Sunday at 2 p.m.
Moore had advanced by
nipping Exeter 3-2 and 3-3 and
then beating Strathroy 4-1.
Hanover had moved up by
downing Flamboro 7-1 and
then beating New Hamburg 5-
3.
Point Edward will meet
Lambeth in the "C" final,
after Wingham defaulted and
Lambeth beat Mitchell 4-3.
Mitchell had earlier beat
Clinton 3-2.
The championship "D"
final will pit. Lucan against
Dorchester after Dorchester
beat Brussels 4-3 and then
shutout Ilderton 3-0. Lucan
beat Tiverton 3-2 on the
weekend to advance.
In the "D" championship
game held Sunday, Zurich
took home top honours by
beating Howick 3-1.
Down at the local lanes
Molson's Crown Mixed
Leonard's Dumbells and
the Corner Pin Six are tied in
first place with 65 points.
}Mice's Buddies are second
with 64 points. The Do Goods
have 57 and are being closely
watched by the Mac Tacks
who have 56 points and the
James Gang are last with 50.
Jean Good had the ladies'
high single with 291 while
Betty Daer had the high triple
of 732 and Marie Collins had
the high average of 207.
For the men, Bill Gibbings
had the high single of 314, Ken
Johnston had the high triple
of 816, and Art Burt took the
high average of 244.
YBC Teen
The Chicken Coops are in
first place with 66 points
leaving the Bowling Bums
behind with 64 and Debbies
Buddies in third with 63
points. The Bobcats are in
last place with with only 45
points.
In the individual scoring,
Susan Wallace had the ladies'
high single of 199. Kelly
Colquhoun had the high triple
of 516 and Jac,kie Zwaan had
the high average of 179.
Gary Armstrong had the
men's high single of 281 and
the high triple of 672. Jamie
Cooper had the high average
of 214.
Clinton -Blyth
Ladies
The Fantastic "5" have 29
points to give them the top
position in the league. The
Wandering Five and the
Earthquakers are tied in
second place with 26 points
apiece. Joan's Pin Poppers
have 25, Davey's Dumplings
have 22, the Foxy Bunch have
21, the Merry Mixers have 20
and Cooper's Angles are in
last place with 19 points.
Mary Davey ,had the high
single of 298 and the high
average of 213. Dini Nethery
had the high triple of 723.
Clinton Mixed
The Sweets are in first
place with 75 points and the
Snow Drops are close behind

Listowel player leads scoring
A Listowel player has taken
over the lead in the Central
Junior "C" scoring race.
Kent Norman of the
Cyclones has grabbed a .one
point lead over the Clinton
Mustang's Steve Cook and
Tim McLean.
As of January 21, the last
complete statistics available,
Norman had 51 points on 25
goals and 26 assists, and
Mustang forward Tim
McLean 49 points on 28 goals
and 21 assists.
The rest of the top ten is
completely dominated by
Listowel and Port Elgin
players.
Clinton, however,
- dominates the goaltending,
with the lowest average, 2.85
in the league. Listowel has
3.79. goals against average.
Clinton's Dean Ryan, who
has played the bulk of the
season in nets, has a 3.22
goals against average in 992
minutes of play and has two
shut outs.
Jurgen Hellman has a 2.68
average in 448 minutes and
Derek Divok has a 2.00
average in 120 minutes, in the
nets.

Seaforth
curling news
Two Seaforth rinks
travelled to Monkton to
participate in a Ladies Speil
on January 25. Winning third
prize was skip Mary Jean
Beattie with Lorraine
Denomme, Joyce Hilderly
and Donna Wood. Flo Smith
also skipped a team of
Seaforth girls.
In the Colts competition in
Listowel on Sunday, the
Seaforth's entry defeated
Exeter in their first game;
The second game saw
Vanastra eliminate Seaforth
from the competition:
Vanastra in turn was put
out by the Harriston rink who
goes on to Paisley this Sunday
for the division playoff.
Playing for Seaforth was skip
Bob Ste. Marie, with Gordon
Pryce, Neil Dolmage and
Robert Fotheringham.
The Bonspiel committee is
still looking for at least six
rinks for the Farmers'
Mixed Spiel on February 8th.
They also need a couple of
rinks for the Men's Open
sponsored by Rowcliffe
Motors on February 18th. Call

"field a rink" for either of
these events.
