Lioness plan Valentine
dance in February
The first meeting of the
Bayfield Lioness Club was
held on Jan. 2 with president
Ilse Grillmeyer presiding.
Miss Cathy McFadden was
the invited speaker who gave
an interesting "run down" of
her Lions Youth Exchange
visit to Minnesota. She
brought pictures of the family
she lived with and of places
she had visited. The local
Lioness Club invited her to its
meeting where they asked all
sorts of questions about
Bayfield and Canada. Their
Club project is two books
which they presented to
Cathy -- "Foods We Love to
Cook and Eat" and "The Best
of Helpful Hints". The
Bayfield. Club found them.
different from the ordinary
type books of this sort.
An Ontario Provincial
Police Constable has been
asked to speak at the
February meeting. Lioness
Joyce Mcllwain conducted a
very lucrative auction o
"sight unseen" items which
Br.iwn iesenrolled badges given
created much hilarity over
some of the packages when'
opened.
The Lioness executive
meeting was held on Jan. 16
at the home of Lioness Carol
Penhale. Fourteen members
turned out to amply provide a
quorum for decisions
requiring an immediate vote.
A Valentine Dance is to be
held on Feb. 4 in the Com-
munity Centre; the usual
admission and amenities to
be observed. February is
heart month and Lioness
members will be canvassing
for donations.
In the fall, the members
will begin to fill the eight -foot
Christmas stocking for the -
1978 draw in December.
There will be gifts suitable for
all ages instead of only toys.
Lioness Elaine Brandon is
to be the Lioness represen-
tative on the Arena Board. A
discussion over raising
money, for the arena came up
with the idea of Booster
Buttons to be on sale all year.
The motion that they be
ordered immediately was
passed.
President Ilse Grillmeyer
read a letter of thanks from
Ceylon for a box of books and
papers received. Since
mailing, costs are prohibitive,
a suggestion that a
newspaper subscription is to
be examined for discussion at
the Feb. meeting.
As soon as a firm date can
be arranged in April or May,
the Sweet Adelines will be
singing in Bayfield. The•
tentative night for the Senior
Citizens Variety Night was
Feb. 25 at 8:00 p.m. in the Old
Town Hall. Lunch will be
served by the Lioness Ladies.
August 20 is the date picked
for the Annual Community
Picnic. Details are for-
thcoming. The July Penny
Sale will be chaired by
Lioness Carol Penhale.
February 6 is the regular
meeting night at 7 p.m. in the
Community Center.

plentiful and very delicious

A letter from Doris Hunter,
chairman of the Bayfield
Architectural Conservancy
Advisory Committee asking,
that the members of Trinity
think seriously of having the
Church (the oldest one in
Huron County) designated a
Heritage building, was left to
the Board of Management to
decide after a motion by Fred
Clift. Reports were given by
the People's Warden, Harry
Baker and by the Rector's
Warden Morgan Smith. All
teports were printed and
discussed and accepted as
written.

The Bayfield Ever Young
Senior Citizens are reminded

Thursday evening, January
26, 7:30 p.m. ir>r the Municipal
Building.
Hats Off and many thanks
to the Bayfield Firemen who
spearheaded a community
project that has delighted the
youngsters, oldsters, guests
and visitors in Bayfield.
As our readers know, the
Village Arena was con-
demned by the Ministry and
no skating facilities were
available to the villagers, but
a couple of weeks ago, the
firemen conceived the idea of
an outdoor rink.
They flooded a large area in
the centre of Clan Gregor
Square and before the ice was
barely set, the skaters were
on. Some of the young fellows
wanted to play hockey, and
the firemen, realizing it
would be too dangerous to
play hockey and skate on the
same rink at the same time,
flooded another smaller area
